Christian, Bigfoot Believing (go ahead, prove they weren't on the Ark), Family Man. Writer, Woodworker, just an average guy. That is me. Hope you like the stories as much as I like writing them.

So, if you actually read my stories, you will notice a progression in quality. The earlier ones - well, it seems I had a love affair with semi-colons. I've gotten better. Give them a shot anyway. The story is good. Maybe some day I'll actually get around to fixing them...maybe.

Oh, and I do write serious stuff. I use M.Wolff as the author name for that stuff. It can be found at:

A coming of age story, but not your typical one. Instead of a moody teenager caught in the angst of life, here we have a young aardvark -- yes, and aardvark, and a wonderful one at that. He suffers loss at the hands of a nasty enemy, another animal, the Golden Wombat, the epitome of evil. He goes on a quest, then, to seek out those who can give him the knowledge he needs to get revenge. This quest brings him to many colorful fellow animal characters, all of whom gift him with knowledge, talents, and otherwise equip him mentally and physically - teaching him how to grow up and teaching him how to live. The Aardvark is a fun, likable hero, and believe it or not, him being an animal and all, he's a character that teenagers and young adults can relate to, look up to, learn from. I liked that about this novel. As others have said, it reminds me and hearkens back to the fables of old, even with a moral of the story woven throughout. I really enjoyed this story. I passed it on to my teenage son, and he's started reading it on a road trip this weekend. I fully expect him to have devoured it.

A fable, an epic fantasy, an heroic quest, The Ancients is all of these and more. Right from the start the reader is in the midst of a world where animals act like humans. When our 13 year old, Aardvark hero sees his village destroyed he heads off in search of The Ancients to be trained so he can carry out his vow of revenge. This is fantasy done right and something all fans of the genre will enjoy, no matter what their age.

A story of a young aardvark's journey from young teen to fierce warrior. When he's but 13 years old, Aardvark sees the destruction of his village and people by the evil Golden Wombat. He vows revenge and goes on to search out the Ancients who, he hopes, will be able to train him well enough to defeat his foe.
He meets the Doom Gator who teaches him to endure pain, the War Yak who teaches him strategy and gives him a home, and Wizard Lizard the ways of magic. Along his way, he also gains steadfast friends to help him on his journey.
This book reminds me of the old tales, like Aesop's Fables, and Aardvark reminds me of the honorable, steadfast heroes of old. Kids and adults alike who enjoy an epic hero's tale will enjoy this story.

When a young Aardvark (yes, you read that right!) sees the devastation left behind when the Golden Wombat annihilates his family and village, he goes on an epic adventure to seek his revenge. He meets various creatures along the way who teach him how to deal with all the lessons life can throw at us in a very well thought out way, and by the end of it, he's a fully grown and changed - um - Aardvark. (Think young teenage boy to manhood here.) This story is like the stories I read and loved as a child - Aesop's fables readily spring to mind here - where there is an underlying moral compass. There is some blood and gore (so possibly not for younger readers) but it's not there just for the shock value - there are genuine reasons behind what happens. (I'm desperately trying not to give the plotline away so I don't spoil it when you read it - and read it you must!)

I love the way this author's mind works - he took me on a journey alongside the Aardvark, introduced characters that shouldn't work (but did), then drew all the loose ends together so skilfully that it left me thinking about it for some time afterwards.

Nice one, Mr Wolff! I'll be buying more.

"The Ancients" is a fantasy story revolving around a young Aardvark that goes on a quest of revenge, only to end in a place that not even he knew could be possible. Without giving away plot points, I will simply say that this story was extremely wonderful! In the beginning, I couldn't help but have questions about the world the author had created that made me ponder if the story was fully thought out. But then, WHAM! The writer explains everything and you suddenly get drawn further into the story and want more. By the last 150 pages, I couldn't put it down. Even though the characters aren't human, you can picture them very vividly in your mind. Yes, there are some typos, so it would do well with a good edit. But the star review doesn't ask if I think it needs improvement, it asks whether I liked or loved it. And simply put, I loved it! The story leaves you wanting to know more about Characters that you grew to love, like Aardvark, Thon, Rhino and more. A fantastic read, from a great story-teller! I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy. I will note that there is a bit more blood and death than I'd recommend for younger readers. I always know I'm reading a good book when I get goosebumps after reading certain scenes - which happened often. My only complaint is that I don't have a sequel to read. I can't wait to read Mike Wolff's other books.
