Ryan Kaine: The Assessment: A Ryan Kaine Novella Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 895 ratings

Some jobs are dangerous. Some job interviews are explosive.

Security consultant and former Royal Marine Commando, Captain Ryan Kaine expects his crew to be the best. When executing classified government military contracts, they need to be.

The latest group of potential recruits are enthusiastic. By the time Kaine’s finished with them, they’ll know enthusiasm alone doesn’t cut it in a war zone.

When ‘retired’ soldier, Arthur ‘Big Jenks’ Jenkinson attends one of Ryan Kaine’s recruitment trials, he thinks he’s a shoo-in. Powerful, tough, and arrogant, Big Jenks strides into the assessment centre and asserts himself from the start. He’s ready to grind ‘Captain Runt’ under his boot heel and show the little pipsqueak what a real soldier can do.

Big Jenks in for a rude awakening.

The raging fire of arrogance meets the ice cool hand of experience in this
Ryan Kaine origins novella.

I always like to understand what makes the main character 'tick', so to speak. I like people who are three-dimensional. This gives me insight into Capt. Maine's integrity and his soul. Excellent.

Good prequel to find out about the character of Ryan and how he thinks and makes him what he is. Good series to follow reading.

Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the candidates, going through the testing for the selection of Ryan Caine‘s team. Four men with differing skills are put through their paces in hopes of surviving as the last man standing.

This book helps the reader to get a behind the scenes look at the character of Ryan Kaine. What makes him an excellent leader and a fine military man. Meet some other interesting 'sods' and see how they do in this competition of strengths and military might. And enjoy the laughs and sarcasm as you read this. I always enjoy the English terminology written by this author, and how this book grabs your attention from the start just like the other Ryan Kaine novels in the series.
"A puff of wind would put the little guy flat on his arse."
"He'll smash you open like you're his personal pinata."
"He's a nippy little bugger and quiet, too. His rubber-soled boots don't make a sound on the track. If not for his gently swaying torchlight, I might have lost him in the night."
"Let's see what he's made of, shall we?"

Being the first book in the series it was more about how they recruit people for their team than getting info on the main character.

Not bad for a Novella. Action packed moments, discipline and training was definitely there. Sort of reminded me of SAS: Who Dares Wins due to the tough staff and being addressed as such as well as it's recruits who face the tough boundaries. Good to start to a hard hitting series!

Working with his team who are assessing new recruits.
On his team are Rollo, slim and Danny all who would give their lives for each other, follow orders and have a lot of respect for rules and orders. A good introduction lead up to book one. I have now read the next 10 books, all are exciting and excellent.

Too obvious from start but at least we know who is the boss. Too contrived for my liking and the end was never in doubt. Glad next 13 novels turned out to be superb as I read them first.
