The Aussie Next Door (Patterson's Bluff Book 1) Kindle Edition

"A sweet, sexy read, featuring a couple that feels both true-to-life and aspirational.” Kirkus Review, Starred Review

American Angie Donovan has never wanted much. When you grow up getting bounced from foster home to foster home, you learn not to become attached to anything, anyone, or any place. But it only took her two days to fall in love with Australia. With her visa clock ticking, surely she can fall in love with an Australian—and get hitched—in two months. Especially if he’s as hot and funny as her next-door neighbor…

Jace Walters has never wanted much—except a bathroom he didn’t have to share. The last cookie all to himself. And solitude. But when you grow up in a family of seven, you can kiss those things goodbye. He’s finally living alone and working on his syndicated comic strip in privacy. Sure, his American neighbor is distractingly sexy and annoyingly nosy, but she’ll be gone in a few months...

Except now she’s determined to find her perfect match by checking out every eligible male in the town, and her choices are even more distracting. So why does it suddenly feel like he—and his obnoxious tight-knit family, and even these two wayward dogs—could be exactly what she needs?

Truly stands out.
Stefanie London’s The Aussie Next Door is an absolute pleasure to read — refreshing, funny, romantic, endearing and heartfelt. Angie moved to Australia to get a fresh start and fell in love with the country, and, now, she wants to stay permanently. Unfortunately, she needs to get married in the next two months to do so, and she doesn’t have any prospects, although she’s attracted to her broody, quiet landlord, Jace. He’s not easy to read and has never indicated that he returns her feelings, but when he discovers her predicament, things begin to shift between them. Their relationship evolves fairly rapidly, but it feels natural and genuine, especially when they reveal their authentic selves to one another. Both have interesting backstories and are very likeable, but Jace is an intensely compelling character. He’s on the autism spectrum, and London presents him with insight and compassion but without overly focusing on his condition and taking away from the central romance. He quickly won my heart and is one of my favorite heroes. The Aussie Next Door has an interesting and emotional storyline with a beautiful setting, well-placed humor and unique, charming characters, and it truly stands out. Recommendation appeared @ Frolic on August 28, 2019. ARC provided, but this review was voluntarily and honestly written.

    4 1/2 STARS!

THE AUSSIE NEXT DOOR kicks off the brand new Patterson's Bluff series by Stefanie London with a delightful opposites attract twist between a comic strip creator and a tourist who enjoys brightening people's lives.

Angie is a complex character. She has a past that she doesn't advertise and all that she wants is to stay in this delightful location that feels like home for maybe the first time ever ... but she's having visa problems. She sets out to fall in love and step into that happily ever after that every girl dreams of (in two months time of course!) ... if only the quirky neighbor wasn't catching her eye time and time again.

Jace is a heartwarming character. He's unique and had this reader wrapped around his finger very quickly. I enjoyed watching him learn to let his guard down a little as Angie and her spunkiness became a part of his life.

I highly recommend you take a trip to Patterson's Bluff if you enjoy a small town vibe with a side of sass, an adorable cast and a boatload of heart! Looking forward to more to come in the series.

I seen this book as a give away from goodreads but did not win but the book sounded so funny that I went ahead and brought it. I liked the premise of the book and how the characters interacted. There was some surprises that I wasn't expecting. It had funny parts and some things that they characters had to deal with that was not funny. I liked how the author mixed it all together. There was a part or so where I felt it carried on a little more than needed in some of the interaction. I felt this was a little overdone so marked down a star for some of this area as it started to make me feel like slapping both characters. I actually was thinking at the time of reading not well done. It almost felt like the author was drawing it out so that there was more conflict. Overall the book was well done and with the characters, dogs and side characters I did enjoy the book. I would look for more books by this author.

This book was just what I needed. I loved that the hero, Jacs, was on the autism spectrum, because we don't see a ton of stories like that. But I love how it shows and reminds people that not only is every capable of love but everyone's deserving, and just because it appears differently or is unusual doesn't make it wrong or less. This couple was perfect for each other and the heroine,Angie, had her own problems too which have her unique insight into things. This story was filled with different kinds of love, self discovery and romance not to mention an adorable HEA. There was literally so much to enjoy in this book I don't want to give anything away. But I will say while it was an adorable sweet romance it still had its hot moments. I loved the idea of our leading lady finding a place that felt like home to her even if it was in a different country. I would definitely read stories about Dave's family too especially if we could get glimpses of Jace & Angie. There was just so much depth to these characters and their world that my only real complaint is I wish it was longer. So overall a very good book that made me wish I could stay with these characters longer; would recommend.

When Jace Walters is forced into dog sitting a family friend’s two adorable dogs, his life is turned upside down. Ms. London's start to The Aussie Next Door is adorable and engaging. I loved the small town setting and the strong sense of family and community. The slower pace seemed to fit the story, and there is just enough humor to add a sense of charm and appeal to the characters and plot.

The author treated Jace, an on-the-spectrum character, respectfully; she clearly made an effort to present his struggles without making the character pitiful. The character’s self doubts (especially relative to his siblings) and his avoidance of social gatherings and people is clearly evident.

I liked Angie’s bubbly personality and involvement in her adopted country. Her past is tragic because readers are told it is. Her backstory was not explored enough to make her a sympathetic character to me. In fact both main characters’ issues are developed just enough for them to be relationship hurdles and to depict two awkward adults whose insecurities and social struggles limit their ability to fit in. Exploring Angie and Jace’s backstory further would have given The Aussie Next Door more depth.

I loved the Walters clan. They’re a big, warm family. I felt drawn to each of these secondary characters.

When Jace's ex comes back in town, I anticipated some juicy conflict and plot tension. However, their eventual meet up provides the epiphany that allows Jace to pursue Angie and help her stay in the country. While my anticipated drama would have been meatier, the reappearance of the ex-fiance did provide a nice catalyst for change.

Angie’s pursuit of immigration fraud put me off from the start. It is not a premise that I find acceptable, and that definitely colored my perception of the story and characters. I picked up the book because I’ve read and enjoyed some of Ms. London’s previous books, and if I had paid more attention to the description, I would have passed on this story. The book and writing are not without merit, the characters and setting are interesting and the denouement is authentic.

This is a really heartfelt romance with two great protagonists as leads and a wonderful seaside town called Patterson's Bluff as the backdrop. Jace and Angie have wounds from the past that they need to work through but if they can do it together they will be all the better for it. This book has it all: cute dogs, quirky town, beach parties, and hot and steamy times. Can't wait for the next trip to this town!

This is a sensitively written novel with autism affecting one of the characters. Jace is on the upper spectrum of autism and needs routine and order to function. Angie was in foster care all her childhood with no good memories. When they meet for the first time it seems like there is a spark between them. This grows as they slowly get to know one another realise that they love each other.
