4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 717 ratings

An old cabin, hidden in the forests of the Northern Cascades, has been a silent witness to mysterious events long forgotten. But sometimes the past has a way of resurfacing…

In search of solace after a personal tragedy, Sara Eriksson exchanges vibrant San Francisco for a small mountain village. Initially, everything at the cabin is just as she imagined: Her new surroundings are breathtaking, and her landlord, David, is kind and helpful. As soon as she’s left alone, however, Sara finds her new home is not quite as peaceful as she’d thought. First she has an unwanted visitor. Then, an unsettling dream…

Sara pursues the leads presented to her, but she can’t solve the mystery on her own. It takes both Sara and David to uncover the truth about the past—and discover a connection they never expected.

Lucia Davis lives in Michigan with her husband and three children.

She loves traveling and has visited many countries over the years, exploring different cultures. In her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking and doing yoga. In the winter, she tries to embrace living in cold Michigan by going skiing and being a hockey-mom. But she really prefers palm trees.

Lucia Davis is the author of the Dunnhill Mysteries: a series with a paranormal slant and a hint of romance. In the first book, The Baby on the Back Porch, Sara Eriksson leaves San Francisco for a small village in the Northern Cascades, where unresolved secrets from the past linger. The Baby on the Back Porch is short, a novelette, and serves as an introduction to the series, yet it is a full story with beginning and end. The sequel, The Charm of Lost Chances, brings Sara to another chilling mystery she has to solve. In The Secrets of Sinclair Lodge (Dunnhill Mysteries #3) Sara will have to brave the winter in the mountains, with plenty of ski adventures, a dead body and interesting new house mates.

A Dose of Deadly Intentions (Dunnhill Mysteries #4) is to be released as ebook on June 15th, 2020. This time we find Sara in San Francisco, but even there the ghosts from the past will not leave her alone. Old letters, new family members, and a handsome admirer can lead to all sorts of problems, as Sara is about to find out.

Sara heads for Dunnhill, to clear her head from her life in San Francisco, staying in a small cabin in the mountains. The owner, David, checks in on her frequently and becomes a caring friend. Seeing a strange grizzly bear in the back yard and having weird dreams about the bear, a young woman, a baby, and a man, send her emotions into chaos. Tripping an falling seem the norm for Sara as she gets concussions and a broken leg in her roving of the forest. Her aunt gives her vital information about her family and with the great grandfather of David adding to it, they piece together a great mystery from over one hundred years ago. Loved the writing and the storyline. It had me totally involved and could not put the book down. A short story that really packs a punch with all the details and emotions. Loved it.

Easy to follow stand-alone. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama.

Intriguing storyline with some paranormal twists including lost souls, family members and ghost bears. Believable characters and entertaining dialogue.

No desire to re-read this story. I am interested in other works by this author.

This short read had some interesting elements and characters. It was not long enough for any deep character development. It seemed just an introduction, not a complete work.

Lucia N. Davis writes with a paint brush. Her words put you right there, in the clearing and the cabin without effort. You can almost feel the breeze in the trees and hear the bird songs. This is an excellent story, a good mystery, with personable protagonists. I have added this author to my must-read list, and am pleased to recommend her work to friends and family.

I received a free electronic copy of this short story from TheFussyLibrarian and Lucia N. Davis. Thank you for sharing your hard work with me. I have read this tale of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work.

Sometimes people’s lives cross in uncanny ways. Whether it is by design, destiny or accident, these are events that can change the entire course of someone’s life.

'The Baby on the Back Porch' is a short story full of mystery, danger, and surprises. As the story progresses, the author makes really good use of foreboding and dream sequences to build tension and heighten the anticipation of the reader. The characters and premise of the story are believable and relatable, and while it starts off with the appearance of a story that might be romantic, it soon develops into something far more mysterious and compelling.

This s a really well-crafted and enjoyable story that can comfortably be read in less than an hour and leaves the reader pondering the nature of coincidence and the ways in which one’s destiny might be interwoven with others’.

First time I read anything by this author, I was really impressed. The fussy librarian recommend this book,it was not my normal read, as I normally read really scary ghost stories . But this book flows from the first chapter on, enough detail to make you feel like your there but not overwhelming , likeable characters and a wonderful story with ghost tale in it . I bought part 2 hope it's as good

A nice, short story. The main character came to an old mining village from the 1950s. The 1950s??? Where did they start mining villages 70 years ago? (I was born in the 50s!) Shouldn't it be the 1850s?

She was a writer, but it didn't seem like she did a lot of writing. For a city girl, she made some questionable decisions. She claims to have seen a bear a few times and she was foolish enough to try to follow it?

Like I said, it was a nice story but not a lot of character development.

This is the first book that I have read by Lucia N. Davis and I was totally thrilled! A young lady that moves from the big city to a small mountain town to start over anew. However as she starts to settle in, events start to happen to her that start her venture down a path full of traumatic events and even serious harm. As Sara starts to put together everything that is happening she realizes that it is the past that has come back to help her solve an unsolved mystery. The characters are well written and their relationships are developed at just the right pace. Gorgeous settings brought to my mind's eye thanks to the author's wonderful colourful descriptions. My only complaint, if you call it that, is that is much too short... I wanted to read more! There are several more books available in the series so I can read more of these characters. I highly recommend this book! A perfect cozy mystery!!
