GROWTH IS HARD,
BUT STAGNATION MEANS CERTAIN DEATH!

Growth must happen— so says Darwin, anyway. I’m Laura, and my Villagers and I continue to make our way through the decay of post-apocalyptic Coastal California during the nuclear winter and fallout of the Last War.
THE EARTH IS ENRAGED AND SEEKING REVENGE FOR OUT TRESPASSES—WITH LEFTOVER SURPRISES IN THE RUBBLE OF OUR CITY, DORMANCY CAN’T LAST FOREVER.
When the Plague runs murderously through the Village, and lives and psyches continue to be pushed to their limits, I’m faced with a gut-wrenching decision. But are the Villagers ready to take the risk and leave this catastrophic reality for what could be a worse unknown? Should we follow the ambiguous motives of Colonel Jackson?

- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2015In my review of Monte Vista Village, I stated that the book took me by surprise, and left me turning the pages. I wasted no time jumping into the second book of what is turning out to be an excellent series.
When we left the Villagers, fire had devastated the village, turning matters from bad to worse. This time they fight a virus which they call the ‘Sneaker Wave” and not even the leader, Laura, is immune. Deciding that it is no longer safe to remain in their shattered village, the Villagers head off on a dangerous journey to safer grounds, fighting not only the cold, but fanatics within.
At times intense, The Beginning at the End of World had enough twists and turns that once again left me flipping through the pages eager to find out what happens next. Once again I have to bring up the main character, Laura. It amazes me how Lynn Lamb continues to grow this character. Throughout all the hell she has had to watch her group go through, and her personal life, she remains strong. The book still contains a well-rounded group of support characters, who are just as well-written as the main ones.
Another point I feel compelled to bring up is the writing. It’s even better than the first, which I praised in my review. It flowed so nicely, so smoothly, it was a pleasure to read. This is a series I cannot wait to continue, and if you read the first, don’t miss out on this one. You will not be disappointed. The next book is waiting on my tablet, and I can’t wait to start.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2014So many great characters growing or coming and going and the balance of reality and humor is perfect. Bailey: It was amazeballs! [LMAO!] So much detail went into each character (back stories included) and events throughout the book were well done and again very well thought out. I love the Q&A at the back. You actually asked questions I would have asked you personally. Thank you for that. I am totally Team Jackson. It's a new world that you have created and I'm so happy I stumbled onto these books. I have to say it's one that I'll pick up again (book one as well) down the road. What's funny is that some books just stay with you long after you read them and now I'm sure after reading these books I'll be thinking about all the great people you have introduced to me. If I were to pick a favorite scene/event it would be them getting the snow caves in order. I could just picture it in my mind. I highly recommend this book (and the series) as you will not be disappointed.
Also, I like the balance of romance in this book.
Well I think I've said enough (I could go on!).
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2016I enjoyed this almost as much as book one. Some things that made my feelings about Laura change is the way she ended up with Jackson. Nothing in book one or the beginning of book two indicated that she and Mark had or were having martial problems. Their relationship was built around love and respect for each other. Then whoops, Laura ends up in the cave with Jackson and the marriage had trouble all along. Also, when the trailer was given to Laura I thought it was kind of rude that she lived there like a queen while her villagers were all crowded in the motor homes. There she is using water to take relaxing baths, her and Bailey have their own rooms. Seems like she is getting a bit greedy. I hope book three gets her back to the caring person she used to be.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2014I was hooked during the first book, but this one was even more captivating. I felt such an emotional connection to the characters...they made me laugh, cry, and even a little angry at times. I love watching Laura change and grow, and find joy and strength in such a difficult time. Her flaws and emotions make her relatable and I feel like I'm taking this arduous journey right along with her. I was sad to be finished with the book, and I cannot wait to read the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2019Book #2 in the Survivor Diaries by Lynn Lamb shows us her first novel wasn't a quirk... Ms Lamb has what it takes to create a journey that will keep you on the edge of your seat, rooting for the good guys!
The neighborhood of Monte Vista in Monterey, CA has suffered a catastrophic failure and is no longer habitable as it was. So a journey to close-by Carmel, CA, less than 100 miles away, is attempted. You'd think that distance could be accomplished in a matter of hours, or no more than a couple of days, right? Ha! Tighten your seat belt ladies & gents... it's a bumpy ride with twists & turns of the plot as well as the landscape.
Oh, and all the characters you knew from Book #1? You're gonna be let in on a number of secrets that even our protagonist, Laura, didn't know *anything* about. Book #2... highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2023This is my 3rd or 4th time reading this series. So obviously I am a fan of it. When rereading a story, there is a difference than the original read through. The first time is like a roller coaster, the second is an eye opener and each time after is a slightly different focus. This time has been on the nuances of the relationships between the characters. Just read the series and enjoy it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2015The second in this series is a rollercoaster ride. After having survived initial losses to radiation and illness new sickness will take the population to unbelievable limits.
Laura and Jackson have challenges that are mind boggling to get the remaining population to a new location. The continued fighting that surrounds them is unreal.
Read this only if you are ready for the long haul of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2014somewhat interesting, but very predictable

After reading Book 1: Monte Vista Village by Lynn Lamb I had to read the next book in of this Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopian Series.
With I high expectations from previous book, I wondered if I would be disappointed. But I soon realized that this book was another 5 star read
and the author had me turning page after page. Only sleep stopped me from binge reading, but the following morning I could do nothing else but
this book. I look forward to reading the third book in the series. One of my best reads for 2015
