The Change Up: A Roommates to Lovers Standalone Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 11,293 ratings

BREAKING NEWS: The Bad Boy of Baseball, Maddox Paige, is totally and utterly whipped.

Okay, that might not be the headlines in the newspaper this morning, but it's the reality of my current situation.

It all started a month ago when I received a call from my best friend, Kinsley. She got a new job in Chicago and needed a place to stay. I've known the girl since I was five, what harm would it be to have her stay at my place for a while? Ha! Total disaster.

Now instead of going out every night with my teammates, I'm couch surfing and sketching endless photos of my best friend . . . but that's the least of my concerns.

The disaster, you ask? I'm rapidly falling head over cleats in love with my best friend, my roommate, and my number one fan.

And she has no idea . . .

Who doesn't love a best friends to lovers trope??

OMG I l❤️ved Maddox and Kinsley! These two were made for each other and deep down they always knew they were each other's soul mates. A perfect story with childhood trauma and overcoming that trauma to be a better person. No matter how much Kinsley turned Maddox's world upside down, he could never say no to her. Loved this!

I adore all things Quinn writes! That being said, the FMC dropped my otherwise 5 star read to a 4 star read. I understand and cute and quirky, but some of her boundary crossing that the MMC just overlooked (minus his melt down moment) irritated me. Other than that, there was humor and banter, conflicts and resolutions, and love-all the things that make up a cute romcom.

Ohhh Lincoln going to be the next book I can feel it. But I do hope it will be him next, but I wonder if the girl is Lindsey if so that'll make my freaking day. If not, I'll still be happy. But I want Lindsey to have a book, even if it's with Walker or Linc.

I also wonder if Marcus's wife is going to leave and date someone else from the Rebels or maybe date someone from the Bobbies team (especially the Bobbies team) Gah that'll be hilarious. Like Lincoln date Lindsey to Walker (I think that's his name dates Marcus Wife) hilarious...

But with that being said. I knew in my mind that something was going to happened to break them up. Hence, I am used to this series. But, I am glad that they both figured things out and worked it out. Because both Maddox and Kinsley knew that regardless of what happened, they still loved each other. I was glad when Maddox got his ish together and figured out a way to not be like his father because that is what pushed Kinny away, especially with what happened on his birthday.

Even in my mind, I had a feeling that his brother Manny was going to pop up at the bar for his birthday. You could tell she was a horrible person. I felt like he wanted to rub it in Maddox's face that he got the girl that was all for Maddie. I don't care to remember Smh 🤦🏽‍♀️ like his brother such a horrible person, and for his ex Jamie or whatever her name is. She wanted Kinny to back off, but in reality, she was a bad person for Maddie, and she wasn't right for him. She could've cheated with anyone else. But she had to pick his older brother like a girl doesn't have any respect. Then they went to send him an invitation to their wedding. I would've shoved that invite so far up their behind they wouldn't know if they were coming or going!

Besides that, I mean, I felt that Maddox should've told Kinny about herself in some ways. Because for one, she did come to his apartment and changed and control everything about his apartment and his life. I know he loved her and everything. But I felt like something have to give. Because regardless of how much you love somebody, you shouldn't change for someone else you want it for yourself. I did felt like she was doing that changing him. I did agree with her showing him That fighting was a good look for him though he should've gotten angry with her when he didn't want to talk about his brother.

Because you could tell, she has her mother's ways in her with the controlling and stuff. I was hoping she was going to work on some of that. But I think she tones it down a little. But I did like the extended edition the author wrote. Where they ended up married with a son and daughter (possibly on the way)...

But I'm still waiting on that Lindsey book though... 🤣 🙏🏽 (prayer hands) 👏🏽

Also, I would love to find out who the girl that Lincoln knew back in college at Brentwood. But I cannot for the life of me remember him. It is messing with my head like ugghhh. I know Gunner and the other guy for the life of me I can't remember his name. Besides Holt!!!!

I love Meghan Quinn and root for her characters to get that HEA in the end. This one concerned me. With past demons such as alcoholism and abuse, it's highly unrealistic that someone can heal from that in 3 weeks. Especially without counseling. Further, generational alcoholism requires recovery programs. These take time. However, multiple books in this series have long time lapses so I'm not sure why this one didn't. It felt like the MC just put a bandaid on a big problem that I didn't believe was fully resolved and will likely rear its head. Not to mention the statistics about women returning to these relationships and codependency. Hard to get on board with this one.

She's outdone herself this time. This book is DEVASTATING in both the best and worst way. It's got an emotional impact that will knock you out, and Quinn has the skills to put you back together again. I loved, LOVED the depth of this relationship. These two are lifelong friends who have had each other's backs since childhood, and the connection is absolutely amazing. It's probably the best true friends to lovers romance I have ever read; Quinn nails that dynamic perfectly. These are two people who have seen each other through all of life's highs and lows; who now find themselves seeing their relationship from a new perspective. But this bad boy has earned his rep for a reason, and you're going to want to brace yourself for impact.

The story follows Maddox, the so-called "bad boy of baseball." He certainly seems to fit the title - he's covered in tattoos, schedules his hookups, gets into fights regularly, and generally doesn't care if he hurts your feelings. But there's one woman in his life that turns him into a giant teddy bear, one woman who has been with him through thick and thin. Kinsley is Maddox's bubbly, sweet, caring best friend, and he's never really seen her as anything but that. They have the type of relationship that's only built from years of knowing each other, with no filters, no need to hide their true selves, and no questions about the way they feel about each other... until they start sharing a home.

When's the last time you read a romance where the couple exchange I love you's 5% of the way in? There is deep love and respect between these two; they've just never been IN love with each other before. I loved how Kinsley can turn gruff, intimidating Maddox into a giant softie within seconds. The depth that Quinn managed to achieve is what makes this book; it swings for the fences with HUGE highs and lows. It's got all of the delicious tension that I love about a friends to lovers romance, with a connection that's obvious from the beginning. These two are possibly TOO open about their lives (especially their dating history), but that just shows their connection. It's the steamiest book I have read by Quinn - a slow burn to scorching INFERNO, if you will. It suits the couple perfectly and showcases intimacy in a way that can only be achieved when a couple trusts each other completely. But the lows... oh man, the lows are going to get you. Quinn definitely tested my limits there, but the grovel makes the angst worth it. Buckle up your seatbelt for a wild ride of a read. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC via Candi Kane PR (then purchased it for my collection) and am voluntarily leaving a review of this friends to lovers romance.

Again is a good read. Same type as the past books from this serie. I really liked the couple ....... But, I still don't agree with some details that Meghan insists in putting on her books, but thats is it. The story still good. 4 start is just because of my personal opinion.

I love this book! Gah where to begin..... I'm quite biased because Meghan Quinn is my new favourt author and I absolutely love all of her books that I've read so far. But there was just something about this book that really got me. I instantly feel in love with Maddox and Kinsley, their relationship is effortless and complex at the same time. I found myself laughing out loud at some parts and in the next moment crying my little heart out. And boy oh boy does Meghan know how to write a break up scene, didn't think my heart would recover! If you love a good friends to lovers romance then this book is right up your street, it's filled with laugh out loud moments, heart breaking scenes and lots of sexy bits. What more do you want. Oh and don't forget a happy ever after that just melts your heart.
