He grinned. "I wasn't aware you were ever into me. You never told me."
"Well, I was. Fleeting moment. Totally short-lived."
"Tell me more about this fleeting moment." He stepped inside, closing the door behind him with the side of his boot. "When did you realize things weren't working the way you wanted them to?"

About the Author
Claire doesn’t like to talk about herself. Because of this, she asked a friend of hers to write her bio. This is what she got:
Claire is caring, smart, witty, and funny as heck. Despite being a New York Times Best Selling Author of a popular contemporary romance series, Claire doesn’t read many romance novels. However, when she sits down to write, those are the ones that pour from her fingers. Much to her displeasure, we like to say she’s a romantic at heart.
She is a breast cancer survivor who lives in Miami with her good looking husband, two adorable boys, three bulldogs, and two stray cats that she refuses to admit are hers (even though they live on her porch and she continues to feed them). When she’s not writing, she’s always lost in a book (the more suspenseful, the better).

Presley and Nathaniel met when she was fifteen and he was eighteen. These two butted heads from the start. However, that line between love and hate has never been more blurred.
Presley had it all. She led a privileged life. Until it all came crashing down. Now she's newly single, trying to get over the past hurt from her cheating ex-husband and get a foot in the door at her father's business. It was always supposed to be her legacy, to run the family business. The only problem with all of this is Nathaniel.
Nathaniel is a self-made man. Presley's dad hired him when he was just a kid. He's always been like the son her father never had. Nathaniel went on to make his own success but still works with Presley's dad. With a new business venture, Nathaniel is Presley's boss and she's all grown up...so there is no holding back.
This is a story that was beautifully told and full of so much love. It's about family, forgiveness, moving forward and love. Nathaniel is a good man. Presley is just trying to find her way. She loves big, with an incredible heart. When the two finally get past their baggage, everything falls into place. You will love it!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2019The Consequence of Falling is the perfect book for you if you're a lover of the enemies to lovers trope!
Presley and Nathaniel have known each-other since she was 15 and he was 18. He has worked for her father forever, and has become like a son to him, and Presley has resented him, hated him, and also been insanely attracted him all at the same time. Throughout the years these two have had an interesting relationship where they push each-other's buttons and Presley just all around hates him. When her marriage ends, and she comes to work for her father's brewery, she's shocked to learn that Nathaniel is now her father's business partner and she will be working closely with him.
I loved how no matter how much Presley tried to deny it, she's attracted to Nathaniel, and she tries to fight it so hard. Granted, she's going through a divorce, and her ex, is how do I put it nicely.... a total sleazebag. She seems resigned with how her life is, and all she wants to do spend time with her father, work on opening up her brewery, and learn the business. She doesn't intend to spend most of her time bickering back and forth with Nathaniel or all the sparks that fly or the feelings she has and tries to deny when that happens.
As the two of them spend more time together, and the small peeks we get into Nathaniel's mind we see that not everything is as it seems, and Nathaniel pushes Presley because he enjoys it and loves getting her riled up, but in reality he wants her and is sick of waiting for her. I loved watching these two slowly come together, fall apart, and come back together. There was heartbreak of different kinds in this book, and a lot of character growth. I adored both of these characters, and I loved how Nathaniel pushed Presley in different ways and helped her be the person she was meant to be. He didn't coddle her like every other person in her life seemed too, and he let her be who she wanted to be, and I loved how Presley seemed to balance Nathaniel as well.
This book had a great story line and I adored the characters. I found myself chuckling out-loud while reading the banter between these two, and I fell in love with their love story. I just wish we would have seen them together more, than all of the build up between them and then them falling apart. My favorite parts were when they were together, an that seemed to b a small section of this book. Other than that, this was an amazing book and one I recommend, especially if you want a steamy romance with a little bit of angst built in!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2019The consequences of reading this book at work - trying to hide your tears as if you got something in your eye! This book gave me so many goosebump moments and alternatively feelings of heartache. My chest ached with the pain of hurt and soared with the sweet moments shared between the characters. Not only is the story a hate to love romance, it is also the story of the incredible and unbreakable bond of family love, the families we are born into and the ones we choose. It is a truly tough lesson to learn growing up to never take advantage of the time we have on this earth. The flow of the story from first meeting at 15 and 18 through the years up until current was done so well, it gave enough background to the story yet didn’t make it full of flashbacks stifling the story.
Presley Rose grew up wanting for nothing, attending private school, dressing in the latest designer fashions but not having what she truly wanted - her parents undivided attention. Nathaniel Bradley grew up modestly and worked hard to make something more of himself, never letting an obstacle stand in his way, especially not the spoiled brat daughter of his mentor Winston. Never having any qualms about putting Princess Presley in her place, Nathaniel gives off the attitude that he hates her just as much as she hates him. Yet under all that hate is adoration and a deep seated need to make Presley feel loved and show her she is more than enough with who she already is. 5 Stars for me!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2019This was only my third book by this author that I have read. I was pulled in to wanting to ready it by all of the social media I kept seeing. Initially I was put off by how the first several chapters were several years apart- it felt like we were skipping around at first but when the book settled in to a time period I was all in in the story. It moved well and kept me hook. That Nathaniel...he is intriguing. I loved the story and I would usually give a book like this four stars- but I found that I stumbled several times over the story while reading because of numerous editing mistakes. Sadly the errors distracted me enough times that I have to only give the story a 3 stars (but if editing mistakes don’t bug you like they do me read this book- the plot is good!)

5.0 out of 5 stars So so good!
Why you should read it: I haven’t read many books by Claire Contreras in the last few months – no idea why as I enjoy her work immensely. I was drawn into this story from the first page and I truly loved Presley – her inner monologue and the exploration of her difficult relationship with her parents was fascinating. Nathaniel is also a really interesting hero. He fires back at and challenges Presley in a way no-one else does in her life. I thought he was a bit harsh at times, but it became apparent as to why and then I understood where he was coming from.
Presley came across as a spoilt princess at times but I felt for her quite a bit. Going through the stress of divorce, she’s left feeling that she can’t trust anyone. She doesn’t know what to do in her professional life, as no-one really thought she was capable of much to begin with. The chemistry between Nate and Presley and the time span of the book really made for a deep love story. I loved every minute.
What you may not like: Presley has a tendency towards stubbornness which may, or may not annoy you. I found it entertaining and completely understood where she was coming from. Other than that, I can’t recommend it enough.
Rating: 5/5 for a sweet, sad and sexy read about second chances, being enough and forgiveness.

2.0 out of 5 stars Erfüllt leider nicht die Erwartungen...
Leider kommt die Jugend der beiden zu kurz, so dass nicht wirklich klar ist, warum sie sich streiten. Auch ist Preston nicht wirklich sympathisch und der 2. Teil des Buches ist wirklich in die Länge gezogen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inimigos apaixonados
