The Favor Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 23 ratings

Kit has an adventurous sex life, which is exactly what leads her to the feet of her current Mistress. It's only when she's loaned out to an old friend that everything Kit thought she knew is suddenly thrown into turmoil.

Eager to please, she is happy to follow through with the wishes of her Mistress, until she meets the source of the request. Jared comes as a surprise, filled with unexpected anger and resentment, he's unsure why Kit is even present in his family home, and he's not at all welcoming to the idea of using her for his own pleasure.

Jared's frosty reception should make Kit's job easier to walk away from, but that cold, hard side of him doesn't last forever, and despite her thinking she knows who she is, neither does Kit's resistance.

No one counted on them growing attached. It was always meant to be a simple, little favor.

I didn’t know what to expect and after the first few chapters I wasn’t sure I was going to like this one, but I’m so glad I kept going! This is such a great love story! Highly recommended

When an author you already love announces that they have written another book, the excitement is almost palpable. It is for me anyway. I have read 3 books now that have come from the brilliant mind of LJ Stock, so on hearing that her alter ego, Elle Luckett, was being allowed a chance to have her say, the excitement was no different.

For me, BDSM doesn’t usually strike a chord. Yes, I have ready about the delectable Mr Grey and fell in love with him like the rest of the nation, but generally, it’s just not my cup of tea. However, I went ahead bought the book anyway, because I love this writer’s words and the pictures she paints with them.

I told myself to ‘give it a go’ and sent myself off to Amazon with a ‘see how you get on’.

Don’t get me wrong… I didn’t doubt for one second that the writing would be anything less than superb – and of course it is, as it always is. It was the content and the storyline that I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy, so it was with slight apprehension that I opened my kindle and began to read.

The opening scene in the book had me concerned that I wasn’t going to make it to the end – it shoved me through the back doors of a hardcore BDSM club where long-time, well-established doms and subs did their thing. Characters that already knew each other and were already in trusting and loving relationships began to show us their way of life with no holds barred, and I immediately bristled. The visuals that my brain began to conjure up were so vivid and real because of the way that Luckett used imagery and vocabulary to ensure that, as a reader, I was literally right there. And I’ll be honest; I was preparing myself for the feeling of needing to leave Kit and Mistress Kayla to it as the intimacy between them became more apparent.

The feeling didn’t come. And I didn’t leave.

In fact, I stayed right until the last page where I slumped exhausted and quite literally ‘spent’, and each time I shut my kindle off, I couldn’t wait ‘til the next time I would be able to open it again to gorge myself on more.

This story is so very much more than BDSM.

It is about discovery, friendship and self-control. It is about, and to quote Beautiful South, trust and mistrust. It is in fact a story that swallows you whole and pretty much spits you out at the end to deal with the aftermath on your own. And there is an aftermath – not perhaps in the way you might be thinking – that could leave you questioning your morals, beliefs and prejudices about the lifestyles of others.

There is such passion in this story, all of which hits you in myriad forms – each character reveals their secrets and desires in a way that draws you into their psyche and forces you to hope and want along with them.

It still confuses me now - after a week of finishing this book - that Elle is not in fact Kit. This story is not autobiographical, but she manages to portray the lifestyle as if she has lived and breathed it herself for years. To me, that is the sign of a pretty awesome wordsmith.

The characters are real. Their emotions are real. Their relationships are real

The whole book is real. It's real life portrayed in such a beautiful story with deep and all consuming love at its heart, and I defy anyone to not be bowled over by it.

Well done LJ Stock / Elle Luckett – another absolute beaut.

I absolutely love the path Elle took when writing a BDSM story. Instead of focusing on establishing a Dom/Sub relationship and the sex, she took us behind the scenes regarding trust, love and loyalty. Along with this she writes about when life takes a different and unexpected turn, leaving us with choices that no one would want to have to make. Life become crazy when you agree to do a favor for someone soon becomes a life changing decision?

Kit felt her life purpose was to be a sub, to serve and obey her Mistress Kayla. Their relationship saved each other from the past they needed to escape. Kayla had an old friend who used to provide refuge for her as a child from the fighting and dysfunction between her parents. Stumbling upon Charles secret, Kayla started investigating BDSM and found she was meant to be a Dom.

Charles has asked Kayla and Kit to help him on a project, namely his grandson. With the plan in place, Kit is supposed to find out if Jared is not only accepting of BDSM but is he the natural born Dom as his grandfather believes he is. After a “false start” soon Kit and Jared start to become interested in each other and the testing begins to form.

I won’t go any farther with this story other than say, things aren’t always as they appear. What could start out with your convictions firm, you can soon find yourself a toxic turmoil where choices are going to need to be made and betrayals will shatter your heart. Friendships and love can be broken instead of strengthened and everyone has skeletons and secrets they are willing to go to extremes to protect.

My heart went out to Kit numerous times as she tries to navigate her way through this maze of confusion and fear.

Jared was intriguing to watch as his European ego begins to melt and he sheds his royal attitude for a more natural and accepting view of life.

Charles broke my heart as we watched him finally be honest about how he has felt over the last twenty years.

Kayla was devastating to watch with her pain that she has hidden because there is no real solution to her problem.

People shouldn’t be changed and it is going to take a selfless person to let go or accept the reality of their situation.

I am so impressed with this author’s ability to make me so focused on the dynamics of the relationship and forcing me to question what I would do if I were confronted with such a dilema. So many times I have read BDSM books yet never have I ever considered what happened in situations like this. There is a level of human angst and confusion that you often see in books today, but Elle did a fantastic job at keeping this story realistic from the events to the emotions surrounding the events. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

The Favor by Elle Luckett is the story of Katherine who 4 years ago got into the lifestyle of BDSM through her girlfriend. After several bad experiences she ends up with the most covenant Dom Mistress Kayla. Now living in New Orleans where Mistress Kayla is the star and every sub wants to be Kit as she is now called she has been a sub for 2 years. One day Mistress Kayla takes Kit to a lovely mansion on the Bayou where she meets Charles and his grandson Jared. Charles is an old friend of Mistress Kayla and he needs a favor from her. Charles has his grandson Jared coming to visit him and he is concerned if he like is grandfather is a natural Dom. Mistress asked Kit if she would help her as she has done so many times with helping with this task. This is the story of the repercussions of the favor asked of Kit. The story is entertaining and enjoyable. The chemistry between Kit and Jared is certainly volatile with some sexual tension. It is a nice read that flows and was over before I knew it. Loved the setting of the book with the rich descriptions of New Orleans and the characters were something as well. I give this story 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars but I feel like no matter what I say about this story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 20, 2015
I don't even know where to start with this book. I know most people read the first few lines of a review and make a call on whether or not they should read, but I feel like no matter what I say about this story, or what fancy words I put out to you all, nothing will be enough. I truly believe this is one you have to experience in order to understand what the rest of us are talking about.

    But let me try…

So we’ve all read quite a few BDSM based books by now. We’re all used to the crack of a whip, how a D/s relationship should work, how it often doesn’t work and all the struggles that go with it. We think we’ve seen it all, right?

    Wrong.

Elle Luckett brings something that completely different with The Favor. From page one, we’re thrown into a well established world of BDSM where partnerships have already been formed, lifestyle choices have already been made and the characters already know exactly who they are and what they stand for.

What I love about this fact is that we’re not watching the people become something new, we can see them for exactly what they stand for from the off, and the world Elle creates is so real, so palpable, you feel like you’re right there in the thick of the Club from chapter one. The intimacy is spine tingling and the relationship between Kit and her Mistress is pure magic. Miss Luckett manages to make you see beyond the dynamics of the sexual partnerships all the way through this book. You don’t see F/F couples, or M/M duos. You don’t see F/M even when it’s there in your face. You’re taken beyond that. You’re shown relationships that are based on connections rather than looks and body parts. You’re given personalities that feel like the characters could and are actually a part of your life, and what I love more than anything is that even when the struggles in the story present themselves to the protagonist, and even when she’s at her weakest, you’re actually sat there staring at your Kindle going… “Huh. This chick has no idea how strong she really is, does she?”

Strength in a submissive is a hard thing for anyone to get right without it coming across as defiant or cocky, but Elle Luckett makes it look so natural, it’s hard to believe that this isn’t who she is and this isn’t her story. THAT’S how good a writer she is. She makes fiction seem real.

We all love our kink, and this book provides it in abundance, but never once does any of it prove too much. I’ve never been a submissive, that’s for sure, but this story and the way the words and the magic are all weaved together… they all made me believe that this was a lifestyle that wasn’t as shocking as it first appears to everyone on the outside world. It made me think that this could be me! No matter how hard the punishment became, I never once scrunched up my face or wanted to turn away. In fact, quite the opposite. I found myself wanting Kit to push for more, to test herself, and I swear to bejeesus, whether it was Kayla or Jared that was involved, I had way too many stomach clenching, skin tingling moments.

It’s hard to give a review on something when you want people to go into it knowing as little as possible, but let me just tell you that Jared is, without a doubt, one of the most extraordinary book boyfriends ever written. If you’re looking for a new English Gent to drool over, this man is for you. He’s got everything in spades. The looks, the charm, the uncertainty… everything that makes a real man real. He has it.

Elle has a way of making you fall in love with all the sub characters, too. There isn’t anyone in this book that doesn’t serve a purpose. There isn’t anyone that’s been put there just to fill the word count. Every line, every detail, every name is there for a reason, and what it all leads to is one of my favourite stories and one of my favourite female leads of all time.

I could go on and on and on and on, gushing about this book, but please… just take my word for it.

You’re going to love The Favor.

And if you don’t… May Jared spank my pale arse until it’s rosy. ;)

Well done, Elle. You nailed it. (Pun absolutely intended) I cannot wait to read your next story and I hope you’re incredibly proud of yourself for writing about a subject that, yes, has been done a lot in recent years, but never really counted until now. The Favor is the real gem in the treasure chest.

    Twenty out of ten!
