The Kiss at Midnight Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 76 ratings

Sometimes dreams do come true…

Highlander Greyson Merrick no longer sails the high seas, his past behind him as he seeks a new life in Aberdeen. Adventure can be found anywhere as he discovers through his latest endeavor: restoring his new home, a crumbling, rumored-to-be-haunted seventeenth century mansion. He’s content, and that’s enough. But he soon wants more when a surprise encounter on a late night stroll on Samhain Eve ends with a searing kiss – and a woman who disappears with his heart.

Ophelia Raines is little more than a servant in her aunt and uncle’s home and knows better than most that fairytales aren’t real. She isn’t a fair maiden in an ivy-grown tower and she stopped believing in princes long ago – when she foolishly gave her heart, and innocence, to a frog. Now all she wants is to pursue her fondness for the mysterious. But when a midnight jaunt lands her in the arms of a dashing stranger, she wonders if happy-ever-afters do exist? Better yet, the magic of falling in love.

l enjoy this author and her writing style. It takes a talented author to make you feel a connection to the main character's in such a short time and especially in a novella.

This is a clean, well written story, only a few passionate kisses and the lovemaking is within marriage and off page. But, I still felt the love they had for each other.

There is clever wit and humor, sadness, magical happenings and just a very unique story line.

This is well worth your time and money. (ljb)

For the last several years, I have been immersing myself in shows and movies set in current and historical England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. It was only natural that my appreciation for such locales spilled over into my reading, and that is exactly why I chose this book.

Author Sue-Ellen Wellfonder has written a truly captivating story that, as my headline reads, really did transport me to another place and time. It has been many years since I set foot in Scotland, but this book brought those memories a bit closer to me.

Aside from my passion for the setting, Wellfonder’s prose is gorgeous and her storytelling really pulled me in. Each of the main characters had something in their respective lives making true love an improbably destiny, but of course, their burdens only made me pull for them even more. If you love romance touched by magic, written in a spellbinding manner, I highly recommend this lovely book.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I'm enamored of Braw Highlanders so a story about a Sea Captain had me curious. I was captivated just a few pages into the story. When an older wise woman enters the story with black boots with red plaid laces I thought Devorgilla here? Sure enough! When she speaks of Duncan the Black Stag of Kintail as a great man the likes of which will never be seen again I felt tears come. I have become so invested in these characters that knowing they are no longer made me incredibly sad. These are fictional characters. Yet Sue-Ellen breathes such life to them that they become all too real. This book ended much too soon and I wanted Dev to appear again. This author leaves you so invested.

A very atypical Regency but a perfectly lovely story. The heroine was a spunky, adorable young woman, a gem among the shallow belles of her era. The hero was appealingly wounded but still could not resist his heart of gold that led him to always do right, whether saving a small hurt animal or a damsel in distress. And you can always find the delicious Highland magic in Ms Welfonder's meticulously researched and finely crafted tales. They just keep getting better which brings me back for more.
