The Laird of Lyongate Hall Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 80 ratings

Love is the greatest magic...

When tragedy and a shocking family scandal force Highland laird Lucian MacRae of Lyongate Hall to leave his beloved home in northern Scotland to tend estate-saving business in London, he never expects to meet the one woman who cannot just steal his heart, but might also help him break a centuries-old family curse.

Lady Melissa Tandy is not popular with English gentry – as a half-Scottish lass and a rebellious miss, at that – her wild ways and daring set her apart. Now someone is also trying to kill her. So when a dashing Highland laird insists on rescuing her, she has little reason not to run away with him to the Highlands, and every reason to fall in love.

“Welfonder knows all the best ingredients for the perfect Highland romance.”

Excerpt I ~ The Laird of Lyongate Hall

Hearts Know...

"My mother was Scottish." Her voice turned wistful. "I always dreamed of-"
"Visiting the Highlands?" Lucian's mind raced ahead, seeing them walking the moors, older and with children. Now he knew he'd run mad, but he didn't care.
She was the lass he'd been seeking.
The look she gave him proved it. "Are you inviting me there?"
"I am." He took her hand, kissing her fingers. "You'll fall in love with Scotland."
She smiled. "I believe I already am."

Oh, how I enjoyed this fantastical tale. If you are looking for a normal romance story, you will be disappointed. I on the other hand, LOVED THIS!! Do you have to suspend belief, yes but that is what made it so unique.

There is passionate lovemaking within marriage - rated 4 out of 5 but not erotic. The little old lady with the red laces made me laugh and the story more endearing.

We get HEA, romance that builds, honesty, no cheating and no cliffhanger. I own many stories by this author and this is a fav I must say. I can't improve on the blurb, just letting you know this is an entertaining unique story. (ljb)

It is every woman's dream to have a highlander come in out of no where and take your troubles away. The hero in this story does just that. I believe she saved him just as much as he did her though. I absolutely loved every word and every page of this quirky, sometimes dangerous and always magical story. The appearance of one old crone with plaid laces is always a delight as well! The love of animals throughout the book is a huge bonus for me. This is a book to keep at hand always for a great read and warm comfort.

Ms Welfonder scores, mixing her typical Highland lore with a delicious Regency tale the late Georgette Heyer could claim with pride. It's all there--a feisty, true-hearted heroine who follows her heart and loyalties despite the disapproval of society; a hero to steal your breath and heart--I can't visualize the right actor to play him but I heard Sean Connery's voice in his speech! And do not forget the plaid shoelaces! There are some evil step-kin, and a wonderful thread of magic and enchantment that brings two perfectly matched people together. What's not to totally love? Not one darn thing!

Another wonderful love story by Sue-Ellen Wellfonder. I have enjoyed her writing style that makes you feel included in the story. She also weaves animals as well as Scottish magic into her tales. The Laird Of Lyongate Hall is a very creative cross over between a Regency romance and a Scottish love story with hunky warriors, spirited, sometimes stubborn, women, and feeling needed and loved for who they are rather than what they have. Definitely recommend, especially if you need a quick, light hearted romance.

Magical. This book is magical. I fell so in love with the Lucian and Melissa. The story reminded me Cindrella with her evil stepmother and stepsisters. But most of all I fell for the magical, mystical storyline. I needed a lift and Sue-Ellen certainly delivered. I'm looking forward to my next read by Ms. Welfonder.

I have certain authors who, upon receiving a notice of a new book, just click and buy without reading all the fine details. Sue-Ellen Welfonder is one of those authors, so read this book and enjoy!
