Operation Endgame (The Last Hunter Book 16) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 1,916 ratings

The clock has run out.

Admiral Jack Romanoff and his people have beaten the Tardans at DuPont, but they failed to get the master control codes that could have ended the invasion without bloodshed. Now, they have no choice but to confront the enemy at the heart of the Confederation: Earth. One last battle for everything they hold dear.

The midnight hour is upon them.

While the battle for supremacy is fought in space, Lisa Gane and Tina Chen will battle the Poseidon Group on the ground. If they can't overthrow the traitors, humanity will be trapped under their heels. They will do anything to stop their enemies, but will it be enough?

One chance for victory.

With no room for error, they can't afford to leave anything on the table. This is it. The endgame is upon them, and they will either win or perish, and humanity might go along with them. Will they save the Confederation or doom it to oppression and death? This is the day that they must win, or everything they sacrificed will be for nothing.

A single toss of the dice to win everything or fail humanity at the last moment.

    1. The plot has too many coincidences which strain the reader's mask ability to accept
    2. Construction of ship from asteroids a little dubious
    3. All of the references to !marriages at end .....pleasant but not good tie ups
    4. A lot of people get into bizarre places but all are rescued...more main characters need to not be rescued

The.much better versions of this are the first books. How does one have an adventure if nobody important dies.

As with most space operas, travel times and weapons seem unrealistic along with the description of the engineering of the ships, but who knows what it'll be like in a few hundred or thousand years. The story itself is enjoyable, and that's what matters

I realize it was time to bring this series to a close, but I felt the story was pretty much " perils of pauline." He made decisions that were counter to his approaches in prior books. I'm not upset I bought the book, but I was a bit disappointed.

The Last Hunter Book 16 has impossibly been the best, most (for me) emotionally moving as a whole. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t trivial, or soppy and the like. Consider more heroic and admirable displays, both physically and determinism in the most heroic ways to make the book close to impossible to put down. I wish I could explain this better as I absolutely would hate you to not read this based on my poorly written review. Think honour, truth, loyalty, teamwork, shared goals and unrivaled determination to achieve these goals no matter the circumstances or cost. Fail to read this at your loss!

There are three types of readers of the Charge of the Light Brigade. 1) they don't care and really prefer never to actually read anything longer than a meme. 2) the ones who see it as a 'GLORIOUS RIDE into DESTINY!' and 3) Those who see it as a bunch of rich young men who thought they were better than the enemy in every way so they charged dreaming of glory shining on them and died...all of them died...

Whoever writes Derek's portion very much presents their writing as someone from the second group with eyes shining Glorious while everyone dies around them
. It's argh. Add to that the personal discussion with his executive officer Mike on the bridge of the Aries ranging from keeping his wife happy to whom Ng about dying a literal minute before going to battle.....they have these wonderful personal not meant for anyone else's ears conversations on the bridge...for all the low ranking juniors execs trying to do their job. Must feel great listening to your executive officer tell your highest ranking general to not be scared. 🤦

That would get him a vote of no confidence real quick not to mention the executive officer saying he was going to chew someone out before leaving the bridge.... I mean one everything you should never do or say in front of junior rankers right there!

From what I get Derek's seat isn't in a sound proof enclosure to prevent the rest of the OPEN bridge personnel from hearing all these discussions.

At least Jack does his personal convos in either his office or a conference room.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good book, great series, and a truly terrible ending
Reviewed in Germany on November 9, 2024
This series had been fun to read. It was less shallow than other series but still entertaining.

In comparison the last book felt a bit rushed to bring things to an end, but it was still ok.

What really turned everything bad - for me - was the ending: half of the plot of the series was about fighting the Poseidon group who had overthrown the old government. They deserved to die and were killed or executed throughout the books with prejudice - all because they were traitors to the old government. Ok, that was harsh but plausible.

But in the very end they our heroes traitors themselves when they crown one of their group to become a monarch to replace the old somewhat democratic system.

So when others betrayed the old system (or constitution) they deserved death. But when the heroes do the same thing it’s suddenly a happy end? I find that extremely disappointing. It’s the worst ending to any series I’ve ever read.
