- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2013I was lucky to stumble upon this book through bookhub, for free. Never hearing of Mr. Luke Romyn, I was more interested by the cover art than the contents. So, in a nutshell, I had no clue what I was reading!
Corpus Christi (The Legacy Chronicles) is totally mind blowing. I always stayed away from religious themed books since I read "The Divinci Code." However, this book much like "30 Pieces of Silver" have swayed me to reconsider this genre.
Corpus Christi is your basic God vs Satan. Jacob Hope is struggling with what he is to do in life. Unhappy with the UN, he becomes a Red Cross coordinator in Uganda. Then literally hell breaks loose in his life. Nothing is ever going to be the same again.
Jacob is in a continual struggle of self-doubt. He can't grasp why he has been tasked with the burden of saving humanity. Oh, did I fail to mention, he's the second coming of Christ. Talk about burdens.
This wonderfully written book thrusts you into a world of what-if's. I don't know how the author intended for this book to be categorized, but it falls into several genres...fiction, paranormal, biblical, and down right good!
My only problem with the book was, I couldn't put it down. I'm already excited about starting the 2nd book in this series, Sins of the Father.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2014I am surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed and the story moves at a really good pace. The subject matter is what surprised me...not totally out of the realm of possibilities but portrayed in a manner that really stretches the imagination. Good versus evil personified by characters who are neither all one or the other...I love it!!! Looking forward to the next book in the series!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2013Jake Hope had always wanted to make a difference and change the world for the better.
Suddenly Jake finds himself in the unenviable position of having to live up to his name and answer his calling.
This is a clever and gutsy blending of today's reality, religion, idealism, and mythology, that covers continents and time. There is some wonderful detailing in this novel as Luke marries fact, fiction and religion seamlessly. Luke is also an artist carefully creating complex and diverse characters who compliment and conflict in humorous and sometimes shocking ways. It is gritty, gruesome and grabbing in the true Luke Romyn kind of way.
Told within our realm yet glimpsing moments of pure wonder that pull you in and make you if only for a moment, believe...
This is a modern, mind blowing, heart racing theological adventure!
'Corpus Christi' is EPIC and I need the next instalment STAT!
Thank you Luke!
You nailed it, again! =)

- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2014I love books that make me think about the story line and characters when I am not reading them. This book fits the bill.
I'm not shy about giving the love to Luke Romyn when he writes: it's intelligent, mind-bending, thought-provoking, heart-racing, and even funny in both witty and sardonic ways. I find his work to be imaginative and mechanically well done.
Yeah, so Jacob Hope's continual questioning and its resulting personal impotence is either tiresome or really effective in understanding what's going on in his head. Like a lot of us, he takes a long time to accept what his head knows.
If you couldn't tell by the title and description, this book takes many religious ideologies, shakes them up, and turns them on its ear. Much like he did with mythology in the Prometheus series. So, be aware. Some may find this heretical, or just see it as a good yarn.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2013What an amazing story! It certainly made you think very hard about the Catholic church and your own beliefs. I catch myself asking what would I do in that situation and the story ends just how it should end but I must read the next book to see how Jake saves the world again.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2013As I am reading Corpus Christi I was wondering if Luke released it at this time to cover Easter weekend. No wait, it's been out for a bit. Should I wonder about why I am reading it now? The protagonist in this work has even more reason to wonder about the things he encounters and that is where Luke grabs us and will not let us go.
This book is what Luke does best. Challenging our perceptions of religion and mythology while giving us engaging characters. These are characters with a compelling back story. The ones we hold close. We feel their pain, glow at their accomplishments and support them at every step.
Luke's descriptive passages come with a cadence of their own. My heart beats with the rhythm and my breathing quickens with anticipation of the outcome.
I curse Luke on a daily basis as I am so engrossed I almost miss my train or tram stop, or I know I need to let go and go to sleep. The story will not wait.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2015This was a very entertaining read. It is your typical angels, demons, good vs bad take over the world story, but it keeps moving along at a good pace. This would make an entertaining movie if done with a decent budget. If you like the t.v. show Supernatural, you will probably like this. This is the first in a series and I will read the others after I read my backlog of books. I did not feel the need to move the next book in the series to the top f that list.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2014Corpus Cristi is a book that I would definitely recommend,. My main criticism is that the book is too repetitive in too many areas. Ok, Luke is Christ. Got that. But his (His?) doubts are over done throughout the story line. Would I read the book again, yes! In fact, it is at the point that it was well enough written that I am more than willing to actually pay, yes, PAY, for the other books in this series. Hopefully the author will edit the rest of the series to make them more flowing and smoother in their story lines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Corpus Christi
For all this took me a while to read - which was nothing to do with the book itself, more tiredness from looking after two kids etc - it was a wild ride from the very start that when I did get moments to myself to read I was engulfed in Romyns' vivid descriptions of events that were happening.
Whilst I am in now way shape or form religious, and since religions is somewhat of a taboo, this story did make me think, even though it pure fiction who is to say that it may never happen?
John Hope, the main character is basically having a hard time coming to terms with the fact hat he is Christ reborn and tasked with the momentous burden of saving humanity from Armageddon.
Pretty tall order for a simple guy right? He must convince not only himself but others through out his quest to stop this happening.
The book will suck you in with you are religious or not and it will definite get you thinking for sure.
I cannot wait to read book two in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dark but enlightening adventure, several millenia in the making.
God vs Devil, Good vs Evil or a man vs his destiny?
Having read The Dark Path by Mr Romyn, I thought I had an idea of what this book would be like. I was quite wrong! The book was just the stepping stone to a whole new level of awesome!
To tell you too much about the book would, in my opinion, be wrong. I would rather you find out for yourself. What I can say is that Mr Romyn certainly knows how to weave an intricate tale that spans time itself. Twists and turns galore. The story contains amazing characters too. You have dark, evil monsters created from the genius mind of Mr Romyn, described in such detail that you can picture them in your minds eye and believe me, that can be scary at times. Then you have the good, from the sometimes reluctant bravery of man himself to the powerful guardians of all life in the universe.
The ultimate battle of Good vs Evil. Or is it? Cant wait for Book 2..............

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece...
Corpus Christi is another fantastic book by Luke Romyn. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all his books to date and this one was no exception. Every page was so brilliantly written; the story flowed, it twisted and it sucked me into the life of its self-doubting hero.
The reappearance of a few familiar faces was also a nice touch, but I can tell you this; if a world on the verge of Armageddon was ever in serious need of a miracle, it would need to come in the form of Jacob Hope. Can't wait for Book Two!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
I was spoiled by coming directly from the Ryder novels, and this felt somewhat pedestrian by comparison. That said, the approach is refreshing, with a somewhat reluctant second coming of Christ who is not sure that he believes in God, but nevertheless muddling his way through increasingly impossible encounters in a miraculous fashion. Gripping, but ultimately unsatisfying, complete with the, now characteristic, poor editing of his linguistic idiosyncrasies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy
This was - if you're a Christian - almost believable - I was unable to put it down. It saw the return of The Dark Man, but I won't reveal anything else - I thoroughly recommend it, and was so pleased that I had the follow up book on my Kindle.
