- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2021Great read! This was my first H.P. Davenport novel, but I don’t think it’ll be my last.
Childhood sweethearts turned broken-hearted strangers in this angsty story of hurt, healing, and forgiveness. It was an incredible journey, and I dare you not to fall in love with Raya and her band of faithful friends. She’s strong, resilient, and ready to move forward in life without Nolan, but… is she really?
When Nolan breaks Raya’s heart for seemingly no reason at all, she walks away from a relationship she’s cherished since childhood. While she goes on to college and builds the façade of a normal life, Nolan joins the military and vows that she’ll be better off without him, and she might have been, except…
No spoilers here; you’ll have to read the book to find out more, but trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
The Lies That Bind Us is a five-star story about heartbreak, healing, and forgiveness. Highly recommended!! Go, get it now. You won’t regret it.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2021Nolan & Raya's story is a beautifully told angst-fest.
I admit - I did not connect with Nolan for most of the story. I WANTED to. I wanted to sympathize or empathize with him, but ... I really just think he was an idiot. He had reasons for the decisions he made and actions he took, but I didn't connect with those reasons. I think he needed his butt kicked. Several times.
Eventually, he gets his head outta his butt & screwed on straight, thankfully. Meanwhile, I liked Raya for most of the story. Her decisions & her heart & her hurt made sense to me. The friendships she formed & how they progressed, made sense to me, and I was happy she had them in her life.
And, although I didn't enjoy Nolan, I DID enjoy his relationship w/ one of the characters quite a bit. I won't say who or how or what bc I think it would be spoilery, but I'll just say that those particular scenes are where I found my connection with him, and I was happy to have that & happy HE had that.
So, grab your tissues & a drink, sit down & dive in to this heartfelt story. And get ready to look forward to the other couples in the series, as well!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2024I absolutely loved Nolan and Ryan's story. I hope all the Callahan brothers find love as well as Keenan and Reagan.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2021Great story here. It has all the meat and potatoes. I love the concept, character development was great, and it flowed. I feel last few chapters was missing something and epilogue wasn't even about this story. Looking forward to the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2021Oh how I loved this book as I do all her books !

- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2021Nolan and Raya grew up next door to each other and they were always destined to be soulmates, with great plans for their future, until he destroys all off their dream and ambitions, leaving Raya heartbroken. I had serious doubts that Nolan would be able to redeem himself after his actions, and I really wanted to give him a hard punch in the face. No spoilers though: - this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a beautifully written emotional 2nd chance roller coaster, which has an intricate and in-depth storyline, and is heartwrenching, intense, and with lies, secrets, angst, family, friendships, betrayal, heartbreak, witty banter, humor, and is a heartfelt and entertaining addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2021Raya and Nolan were supposed to be forever. Then he took her heart and dreams of forever and ripped everything into a million tiny pieces. Since that day, Raya has picked herself up and gone on, strengthened her already strong backbone, and lived her life for the one person who needed her. Now the boy who severed their dreams is back, wanting a second chance. Should she give it to him? Give him a chance to hurt her again?
Let me tell you something first - grab a box of tissues before you read this, you're going to need them because this second chance story is an emotional heartbreaker. It's full of angst and pain, but love, too, because honestly, the bond between Raya and Nolan was the kind we all search for. He may have tried to break it, but it lived on just waiting for them to come back to each other. I really liked this story, for a couple reasons, the first being Raya. She's tough and strong and didn't let Nolan break her. Oh sure, he broke her heart, but she came back stronger than ever and proved how amazing she is. The second reason is that Nolan's family is awesome - loving, loyal, and compassionate, taking in Raya when their own family member hurt her so badly. That's the kind of family I wish all writers would put in their stories. Now on to the bad, thankfully there's only one thing I didn't like, and that's Nolan. What he did to Raya was unforgivable, not to mention, ridiculously unnecessary. I'm still not understanding why he didn't just tell her the truth, why he chose to break her heart the way he did. Raya is a far, far better person than I, because if I had been in her position, I wouldn't have given Nolan that second chance. He didn't deserve it, and she could have done a whole lot better than Nolan. He's just lucky her heart wouldn't let her get over him. Aside from the awful behavior of Nolan (who never redeemed himself in my eyes), though, I liked everything else about this angsty second chance.

4.0 out of 5 stars So well written. Angsty, second chance romance.
SPOILERS!
I did however find it hard to relate to Nolan. The reasonings behind his decisions weren’t justifiable or really explained, other than he knows he made a mistake. Then he continued to make more mistakes by shutting Raya out for such a long time. He slept with other women but only saw her face, yet he refused any letters….he was heart broken himself but chose to stay away.
The one thing I hated more than anything was that Raya didn’t ask him about his history with other women. The author wrote about her telling Nolan, but for me as a woman, I needed her to know how he had behaved whilst staying away. Maybe for him it was just a release but having read his thoughts in the diary it was just another black mark against him. I would rather it not been mentioned, than read it on the page, it just felt it was something I knew that Raya didn’t. That’s just my personal preference though if I was in Raya’s shoes.
The writing was excellent though. I would love Reagan and Weston’s story!

4.0 out of 5 stars Angst heaven
Absolutely worth a read if you love angst. Heroine doesn’t just roll over, the hero has to GROVEL! So rare these days, looking forward to the next book, bring on Weston.
