- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2018Everly has led a rough life in the worst of circumstances. She was left at a train station with nothing to indicate who she is or where she came from. Passed from foster home to foster home, some okay and some not so much, she spends most of her life homeless and living on the street, following the train line, pick-pocketing and doing whatever is necessary to try to stay alive. A chance meeting with a cowboy when she's 16 years old makes a lasting impression on her and keeps her dreaming of the sexy, older man when times are particularly difficult.
Meeting Mama Lou at a shelter changes her direction for the better, and when she finally comes to an age when it's time to leave the only good home she's ever known, for a job she's unsure of, it's this woman who cared for her with love she'd never known who points her in a direction that will forever connect her past with her present in ways she'd never have expected.
Cole has fond memories of the sweet girl, he calls Peaches, he met on the train once several years ago. Since then, he's had some amazing highs and some life changing lows. He's facing some heartbreaking realities he doesn't care to face, and he isn't in the mood to deal with the new woman his boss hired to help with things on the ranch. That is until he meets her and realizes she is the one thing that has been missing in his life. Of course, time and secrets keep them at arm's length for quite some time before things finally reach a point neither of the expected to happen in their lifetimes. But will the secrets both of them keep, and the ones neither of them realize are kept right under their noses, be the end of something both of them need but for which neither of them may be ready to risk their hearts.
I found the painful and heart wrenching life Everly led up until meeting Mama Lou not only frighteningly realistic, but she also drew me into her story from the beginning. I wanted to know whether she was going to survive her difficult times and find happiness in the end. And Cole was someone I could just tell had a sweet heart but who had just been cut way too deeply to find the strength to put himself out there when it wasn't just what she wanted but what he needed. It was a heart warming and tender story that brought me to tears and made me laugh out loud. And the secondary characters were so much fun and kept the story full of humor. They connected each of the story's lines and made me want to learn just as much about each of them.
This is the first book I've read by this author, and I'm pretty sure it won't be the last.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2017I actually give this book 4.5 stars and the only reason it lost .5 stars is because I felt like there were some issues that still needed to be resolved. However, it does leave space for Amie Knight to write a novella or spin off for this beautiful, raw, heart touching book.
Everly is this homeless girl that has spent her life being invisible until one night. Cole is this cowboy that sees a girl in need. One act of kindness changes two lives in a very special way. This book is a journey of love, trust, family, and acceptance.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2017Before being found and taken in by Momma Lou, Everly had been homeless. True, from time to time she technically had places found for her by the foster care system, but time and again she found reason to flee them and make her way back to the train station where she'd been abandoned as a baby. The closest thing to a true home she'd ever known.
Working the line, the passengers passing through day after day, she'd did what she needed to survive with little regard for the legalities involved or the feelings of those she preyed upon, but there was that one night that always stuck out. One handsome stranger who, unlike almost every other person she'd ever encountered, only wanted to help.
Years later, now a well fed, mostly adjusted member of society on the cusp of making her own way in the world at the ripe old age of nineteen, Momma Lou finds Evelyn a summer job on a farm that will hopefully earn her enough money to be able to attend school, and though tentative about spreading her wings beyond the only place she's truly felt welcomed in her young life she's never been one to shy away from the difficult choices.
Of course, as luck would have it, upon arriving at her new home for the summer, she once again encounters the beautiful cowboy from the train all those years ago, and while her recollections of that night have been a comfort to her ever since, he remembers things quite differently, and as the passing of time tends to effect, neither of them are now what they once were.
Last year i took a chance on a first time author and was blown away with how incredibly good her debut novel was, and now, having finished her second, a completely unrelated standalone, I can only wonder how long it will be before word gets out and she takes her place among the superstars of the indie publishing community.
In all honesty, with still more than half a year left in 2017, I have no hesitation in suggesting that this book is almost certain to feature in my top ten books of the year. Amie Knight has crafted a story with sensitivity and depth. With characters that endear themselves to the reader as much as they frustrate.
From the lovable, over-the-top Cody whose brashness and boyish charm occasionally give way to a sensitive and fragile underside, to Cole, broken and bitter, reeling from betrayals that rocked the very foundations of his self identity, to Joe, the wheelchair bound owner of the property who, in contrast to our hero Cole, is broken in body but so very filled with the joy of life.
Each form rich and complex relationships with our multifaceted heroine, but all is not what it seems and while some of the plot twists are telegraphed in advance for the reader to wonder exactly how they might play out, others are played close to the vest to catch the reader unawares. All however and delivered deftly and with grace in a dual perspective narrative that is dazzling in its ability to evoke emotion, an stunning in it's ability to convey the most subtle of nuance
Of the 93 romance novels I've read thus far this calendar year, this one is my absolute favorite.

The Line by Amie Knight
5* review by Nicole @Emerald Book Reviews
The one thing that always shines brilliantly out of Amie Knight’s work is the sheer magnitude and scope of human emotion that she manages to capture from her characters, female or male, hero or side player. They struggle, they hurt- themselves and others- they heal, they demand redemption, earn respect and above all else crave love.
‘Cole Briggs had stolen a piece of my heart when I was sixteen years old and over the past few weeks he’d somehow managed to strip me of the rest of it. Because even at his worst, Cole was the very damn best. I couldn’t have hidden the rest of my heart if I’d wanted to.’
Everly is one of those beautifully tragic characters that you happen upon once in a blue moon, she is brave and canny and utterly deserving of the mantle ‘heroine’ after everything she overcomes. She is young and innocent in so many ways, yet she has an old soul, a world-weariness and suspicion ingrained into her from all of the sadness and abandonment she has had to endure. The only person that ever attempted to eliminate her pain, hunger and loneliness was Cole. Our rugged, sexy, stetson wearing peach farmer of a hero, who gave out kindness and smirks like they were candy. But what happens when life intrudes, causing chaos, and the Cole Everly once knew is no longer the same carefree grinning hero of her memories?
‘“You cuss like a damn sailor, you know that, right?” I said still laughing.
“Meh.” She shrugged her shoulders, looked back up at the stars, and smiled. “You like it.”
Amie has yet again delivered an epic tale of romance and longing, where past and present collide and where a future together is uncertain. The writing and dialogue and even the character development in The Line is amazing, it progresses so seamlessly between our dual points of view, with Amie adding in a lovely touch of comic relief in the shape of fabulously flamboyant gay cowboy Cody.
Each character is distinctive and unique and utterly lovable. After having read See Through Heart and The Line, Amie’s writing style is very reminiscent of Nora Roberts earlier stuff, although Amie has way more interesting and detailed love scenes. This is one author on the rise.

This is my first book by Amie Knight and I can’t wait to read more! Her narrative pulled at my heart strings and gave my heart achy feels!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this
The story arc here is gorgeous. It’s not a simplistic cowboy story. Everly and Cole both are wonderfully written rich characters and bring so much to every page which is a testament to the author here.
So glad I read this book. Thoroughly recommend it.
