The Locker Room: A Bookworm Falls for Jock Standalone Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 13,001 ratings

Have you heard the rumor around campus about the locker room? If you haven't, let me enlighten you: Legend has it if you bring a girl into the sacred after-game domain of the baseball locker room, it will end with a walk down the aisle.

One rowdy and naked encounter against the lockers with the girl of your dreams will make her your wife. Translation: baseball players are stupidly superstitious and believe the locker room has magical powers.

But not all baseball players are superstitious, me included. So when the girl I've fallen for brushes me off, I start to question if I need to switch my way of thinking. Maybe it's time I finally hand out a coveted invitation to the locker room. The only question is, will she accept?

An absolute must read
New author for me, and I found this gem checking my friends feed on Good Reads. And OMG I am so happy I clicked this read. I cried. I laughed. And I just plain fell in love with this story. Even with how it all played out, I can't rate this enough. When Emory transfer Brentwood University, she's still in the process of dealing with a bad breakup. Six years of her life wasted on an asshole who she pretty much threw her life away for. Giving up her friends, her dreams and herself for him. But when she catches him cheating on her the way she handled that? Omg it was priceless, and so visually funny what she did (I'll let you experience it for yourself) but needless to say you need to read it to picture it. Okay so now she's away from this cheating ass and is now at Brentwood, back with her two best friends and starting over. Doing what she dreamed of always doing. Meeting someone new is so far off her radar it's not even a possibility in her mind. But seeing Knox Gentry (god I love his name) and she is re-thinking her choice, not that she'll admit it. Knox Gentry (ahh his name) is a baseball god. This guy is going places, Major league places. But Knox is also a good guy. He's funny, charming and loveable. And the moment he meets Emory he know's in that instant that she's someone he was meant to meet. And he's relentless in his pursuit. I can't say enough about him but he is such a genuinely refreshing lead character that you can't help but smile as you read. The banter between these two is off the charts. Their text messages? OMG I'm still smiling big they were funny, hot and made you want more. But Emory is wary, she's over her ex but six years of your life is not easy to forget. She values the friendship she's formed with Knox. It's special and she doesn't want to lose that. But she also can't deny the attraction either. It's a slow build, but it's also damn sexy hot. Everyone is on board and rooting for these two. His team-mates, his mom (she is GOLD and I fell in love with her) her best friends who push her when needed. And just when you think its going to be happily ever after it's not. She lets him go. Knox has a huge future ahead of him and Emory knows that him trying to hold on to them will ruin it eventually. Knox though is heart broken. He doesn't see it that way. But Emory is adamant and won't be swayed. She loves him enough to let him go. Cue the ugly crying. It was not pretty and I seriously thought WTF? I put the book down and thought I can't deal with this. It's like they broke up with me, personally. Fast forward over the next eight years. You get a glimpse of what they have both achieved. Knox went onto Baseball glory. Emory achieved her goal and became a librarian. Neither forgot the love they had for each other. But it's meeting eight long years later and what they had really never left either of them. Theres angry words, loss and pain. And I must admit I'm still pissed at Emory for making that decision for them both but I can see her point of view. But once you get past all of what they lost and could have had you realise that the right choices were made for them at the time. I fell in love with Knox Gentry and this story. I can't give it enough stars. Get ready for your new book boyfriedn.

“I don’t want to be your friend. I want to be your boyfriend, your g*ddamn forever.”

The Locker Room (The Brentwood Boys, Book 1)
    Author: Meghan Quinn
    Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

In an effort to mend her recent breakup, Emory Ealson finds herself at a new college looking for a fresh start. She’s ready to spend time with her friends and live the full college experience but she isn’t ready for any sort of relationship. In walks Knox Gentry, a hotshot baseball player gearing up for the MLB draft in the spring. The two meet in an unconventional way but he is enamored by her from the start. Still picking up the pieces of her life, she is hesitant to let him in but they settle on friends…until friends just won’t cut it anymore.

What a fun read to start off a new series! Emory has such a strong support system through her girls who help to bring out her independence and sass when needed but also talk some much needed sense into her as well…ugh I am a sucker for a strong girl gang in a series. Her strong will has met its match with Knox’s willpower to make her fall for him. He is such a fun-loving MMC, he really leaves her with no choice but to fall. The way their story is told will have you laughing, swooning, and crying (I mean literally sobbing). Meghan can do no wrong in my eyes, even an eight-year time jump😉

If every Slow Burn were this friggin' H.O.T. I'd never read another genre. Hands down, a big sexy laugh out loud winner. This page turner kept me up all night. ”

I FLOVED IT. FLOVED FLOVED FLOVED. Emery and Knox are probably my fave college couple. There. I will recommend this book for ages. Meghan Quinn is my slow burn romance crack dealer at this point. You need this book.

The Locker Room is such a special book. Sometimes a story delivers great character chemistry. A writer finds a seam, you know that chemistry gold? And she conjures up a pair of perfectly flawed and perfectly matched lovers. Add in Quinn, the emo-writing queen’s warm, loving narrative—her A-game writing skills on full display—and The Locker Room is a massive homerun. This book…. I don’t have words. Well I do. So here goes. The Locker Room is a romance to savor, to read over and over.

This review is a little different, which reflects the out-sized reaction I had to reading it. Confession: I've never contacted an author to discuss a story. Ever. UNTIL NOW. I needed more. Em and Knox’s journey tied me up and I wasn’t done, I needed an outlet for all my emotions around their incredible journey and the sizzling, almost greedy perfection between these two. So I legit reached out to Meghan Quinn (gah, total sweetheart) to swoon and purge and emote and let out ALL THE FLIPPING FEELS that Em and Knox’s story gave me. It’s excellent.

Knox Gentry… Easily gonna be everyone’s next book boyfriend. He’s simply everything. Sure, he’s drawn like a beautiful god born on Mount Olympus, but it’s his patience and kindness, his love for Em and how he expresses himself that keeps you swiping to the HEA. I won’t spoil this story, but Knox, in a very real and visceral way, he pulled Em back from an emotional, isolated abyss and he made her believe again. He’s her lobster.

Emery is a jagged heroine, shaped by an indelibly difficult relationship that ended. She lives with her sorrow like its armor, yet she’s so damn fragile. She’s a student first and that may be a tearjerker right there, when what she really needs is the love of another. And sometimes those bonds of fear and the scars inside hold us back, make us doubt ourselves so much, we need fictions like this one to cope. AND we need Knox. A fairytale Prince Charming if there every was one, and he’s also a FlockHot life-sized stress-reliever.

Their courtship was so sweet and I loved the slow burn, cause it was so well grounded and real. And it’s a slightly reverse trope. Emery’s reluctance to fall was so deliberately laid out, when she finally did, it felt inevitable. It pleased me immensely to read a story where both lovers get that they’re falling, and MQ indulges us in their sensual relationship full of denial and comfort, and sometimes verrrrry dirrrrrty pleasure. It’s incredibly hot and they are deeply in love.

Meghan Quinn has slayed me. I am not over this book. It’s taken me days to write the review, I am soooo moved by this couple. I mean, I’m NOT OVER IT. Gulp, I may cry again, and I KNOW I’m not the only one. I love this pair.

The cover, the blurb, don't do this story justice. They're not even in the same VICINITY of how moving this love story becomes. Read and repeat.

An incredibly well-written love story. I loved them together. Loved them!!!! If there is a lesson, it might be that once you let go, it’s too hard to go back, and life changes so fast.

And a massive reader thank you to Quinn for sharing her writing gifts with us. And oreos. yum!

I wasn’t a huge fan of the bet going on through the book but I loved the ending. I loved how the main characters didn’t instantly reconnect and forgive each other (like most books) they actually fought it out. You could feel the pain and regret they both had.

I honestly cannot put into words how amazing this book is! I was genuinely wrapped up in knots throughout and couldn’t put it down from the moment I opened it. Em and Knox are fantastic, the humour, emotion, quirkiness and passion is unbelievable throughout and although I laughed a lot at their quick wit and sass, I also had tears, anxiety and a racing heart throughout their journey and felt invested in them and I didn’t want the book to end.

This is a story that will stick with me! One that I will go back to wanting to read about their journey again and again just to feel that connection and the emotions once more.

    A MUST READ!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The development of the storie is perfect, the way Knox treats Emory, her insecurities, their love. But it all comes crashing down because of a ( in my opinion ) stupid decision, and I blame the author, because the characters do what they want. It is so sad what happens that I cried like I just cried a few times in me live. I could feel the pain, I suffered with them and I still picking up the pieces. That is the reason behind 3 stars. I think that when we love someone we can't take too much time appart, it is incoherent. This book had the potential to be perfect, slight, funny, cute.. But it comes crashing down with the end and the pain throught the last chapters.
