Review
The Macaroon Chronicles by Dawn Knox is such a unique plot with unforgettable animals as the characters and scenery which is mostly edible. The dialogue exchanges between the characters are sharp and witty and will definitely make you laugh out loud. The characters have been created with a huge amount of imagination. I loved each and every one of the main personalities, Eddie, Brian, and Colin, but Gideon was definitely my favorite. The scene where Gideon confesses to failing the spy assessment and has to take a refresher course was hysterical: "I think I might have indisputably failed when I shot the examiner with my pen." Every chapter was filled with fantastic slapstick humor, embarrassing calamities, and with every attempt to escape disaster they seemed to get themselves deeper into mischief instead of escaping it. I also loved Babs and Deidre, the unforgettable, sharp-witted rabbits. The chapter which followed their employment as Father Christmas and his helpers was extremely funny. If you love dark but intelligent humor, then you are going to really enjoy this well-written comedy. The descriptive narrative is superb and your imagination will definitely be sparked.

About the author

Dawn spent much of her childhood making up stories filled with romance, drama and excitement. She loved fairy tales, although if she cast herself as a character, she’d more likely have played the part of the Court Jester than the Princess. She didn’t recognise it at the time, but she was searching for the emotional depth in the stories she read. It wasn’t enough to be told the Prince loved the Princess, she wanted to know how he felt and to see him declare his love. She wanted to see the wedding. And so, she’d furnish her stories with those details.
Nowadays, she hopes to write books that will engage readers’ passions. From poignant stories set during the First World War, to the zany antics of the inhabitants of the fictitious town of Basilwade; and from historical romances, to the fantasy adventures of a group of anthropomorphic animals led by a chicken with delusions of grandeur, she explores the richness and depth of human emotion.
A book by Dawn will offer laughter or tears – or anything in between, but if she touches your soul, she’ll consider her job well done.
She has been a finalist in the Wishing Shelf Book Awards for 2017 and 2020, Readers' Favorite Book Awards 2018 and Independent Author Network Book of the Year Award 2018.
Dawn has also written two plays about the First World War, which have been performed in England, Germany and France.

4.0 out of 5 stars A light-hearted, easy, quick read but nothing like you will ever have read before
Meet the chicken called Eddie who thinks he is a Bald Eagle and a whole bunch of weird and wacky friends who live on the island of Macaroon where nothing is as it seems. From a custard river to broccoli trees, a cheese mine, and fields of candyfloss bushes to name but a few.
The book opens with Eddie sorting out advertising for the new band he is managing ‘The Three Wise Monkeys’, although there are only two members and one of them is a lemur. They are to play their first gig at the annual music festival but when they eventually get there with their new member’s bunnies Babs and Deidre they end up being the headline act which propels them to stardom and a sneaky music promoter.
Join this bunch of strange animals as they have to escape the grips of their new manager, get sued for making clothes out of cheese, deal with a crafty car park attendant/mechanic, and become associated with a real-life spy, and this is just the start of their journey.
The Macaroon Chronicles is like a children’s book for adults. The characters are all animals, the setting is filled with food scenery, and the plot completely bizarre. How on earth author Dawn Knox came up with a book like this is baffling but she sure has one fun imagination.
I wasn’t quite sure going into this book how I was going to get on with it. I like books that are different and a little out there but I wasn’t sure whether this was too out there even for me. However, I was strangely hooked on the book and read it in one sitting. The chapters were quite short, which I like as I find short chapters add a dramatic feel to a book and there were eighteen of them.
Amid the weird and unusual is a story that if you changed the characters to humans would work too. It is a book where you can relate to what is happening. I liked it mainly because it was different.
If you are after a book that is a light-hearted, easy, quick read but nothing like you will ever have read before then I can suggest you read this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story not to be missed
This book is a joyous romp through absurdity, where the characters are all animals, the scenery is mostly edible and the events propel the action at breakneck speed. And that alone makes it a feast of a read in these depressing days. But, seek deeper and you will find all the foibles of humanity illustrated by these engaging adventures, it's not Animal Farm, but a more gentle look at the everyday emotions of a group of friends battling their way through life.
Not to be missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A book to cheer you up
This is an anthropomorphic romp guaranteed to cheer you up in these times of gloom and doom. The food imagery is delightful and the mad cap, border line crime scenarios in which the gang find themselves is plotted with verve and humour. The situations are not original but they are clearly written. If you're a fan of farce or good old fashioned slap stick this is a great read. The book cover says it all. Newly discovered writer from a quirky, independent publisher of quality writing.

This is such a light, fun read for these challenging times. I loved meeting all the weird and wonderful characters and reading along as their antics developed.
