The Mask Collector Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 32 ratings

A BANK HEIST GOES WRONG WHEN ONE OF THE HOSTAGES TURNS OUT TO BE A WANTED SERIAL KILLER.

Pat Caine—locally famous retired bank robber—has come out of retirement to do one last job with a gang of local rogues.

The plan is simple. No high-concept, Ocean’s Eleven, heist nonsense. Go in, wave a gun around, get the money, and leave. Quick and easy. In and out.

A cashier recognises Pat. She's read his book. Knows he believes in a victimless crime. Calls his bluff and presses the alarm.

Pat and his gang are forced to take hostages. Unfortunately, one of the hostages is the wanted serial killer the papers have been calling
The Mask Collector. He is loose in the bank and wearing the face of one of Pat Caine's gang.

SURROUNDED BY POLICE, SAFE FULL OF MONEY, TRAPPED WITH A MANIAC.

And I truly mean bloody! Talk about a bank robbery gone south and a serial killer on a rampage! Never have I ever!! I will be reading more of Andrew Chapman's work. Like right now!

This was a trip. Like if the Reservoir Dogs raided the First National of Camp Crystal Lake, only in England. An aging group of bank robbers plans one last job and things go badly. The characters are gritty and the violence extreme.

Wow! This was a very good read! I loved the concept of this book because it wasn't one that I've read over and over in other books. I found myself on the edge of my seat reading it and knocked it out in two sittings. What I loved most about it is that the action starts out fast and continues through the whole book. You meet the bank robbers, they start to rob the bank , and BOOM you meet the serial killer! I don't want to give away too much, but I definitely recommend this ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars FOUR HOURS OF TERROR!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 1, 2022
Raced through this novella and regularly felt terrified, yet the moments of hilarity through the author’s clever writing, meant I could handle the bits which should probably come with a warning. I love a gruesome read and could see this as a film the moment I read it. I do hope someone who makes film or TV spots it because these characters need to be given airtime!
A real page-turner, and to think it was initially written in one day is oh phenomenal. Looking forward to reading more by Andrew Chapman … as is my dog.

    Loved this book.

Chapman does it again with a story that unfolds like a great film. I flipped every page, anxious to find out what was happening next. The twists kept the story moving and the next time I'm in a bank I'll look be looking over my shoulder for the Mask Collector.

I enjoyed this read, not my usual genre but I was intrigued by it being written as a 24 hour challenge and I'm really glad I gave it a go.

I read this fun little novella so quickly. It’s pacy and gory and the story is so much fun. I’ll definitely remember the characters from this one and there’s some absolutely five star kills :D
The Mask Collector himself is up there with Michael Myers for me. Highly recommend for a one sitting read.

I read this in 2 phases (20% + 80%) - 2nd phase, couldn't put.it down - clever story, a little gory to what I normally read, with some nicely put comic moments (I'm the same age as Pat Caine) and the ending was smart and caught me out - well done - and to do all that in 24 hours? - remarkable - I doff.my hat to you
