The Modern Gentleman Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 5,354 ratings

Have you ever hit rock bottom?

I embarrassingly have.

It’s why I’m wearing my girl's decorative scarf over my head, clutching her lady drink to my chest, and singing ever so softly to Joni Mitchell while swaying back and forth.

This is what therapists refer to as LOSING IT.

Oldest story in the book: boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, boy screws up MASSIVELY, girl tells boy to suffocate in the fruits of his very own unborn children.

Heard it before? I'm sure you have.

So what's so different about this story? Well, it's about me, The Modern Gentleman, New York City's top advice columnist, and my rather ungraceful downfall from my pristinely polished pedestal.

It's about a girl I met who threw all my proven theories to the wind and left me awkward, needy, and absolutely head-over-wingtipped shoes in love.

This is a story about June Lacy and how she single-handedly dismantled The Modern Gentleman.

"You can't help but love all the characters. The main characters, the secondary characters, and the animals. It all made this perfect little story of these two, who were meant to be together. Overall, Five Boundless Stars."- Amazon Review
"This book was absolutely hilarious. This may be my new favourite book from Meghan Quinn."- Amazon Review"Ultimately, that is what The Modern Gentleman is. It's a break from the seriousness of our world. If we can laugh at the ridiculous situations in Wes and June's relationship, then we can find the funny in our own. If you want to laugh and gobble up a book in one sitting, then you MUST read Meghan Quinn's The Modern Gentleman."- Amazon Review"Meghan Quinn is quickly climbing the ranks to becoming my favorite author. As time goes on, her books just get better and better. At this point, there is not a thing she could write that I wouldn't read. She pulled me in so quickly with The Modern Gentleman. It was hook, line, sinker for me. My favorite trope in the world is Rom-Com and with Quinn's words, I do not see that changing any time soon."- Amazon Review"Meghan Quinn always knows how to knock me off my feet with a good romcom. She is such a bright light shining down on romancelandia."- Amazon Review

Lots of Laughs!
I don't comment about this too often but when it needs to be said, I need to say it...I LOVE THIS COVER! It is gorgeous and very eye catching! With that being said, this story is full of laughs! That is one thing I love about this author. When she gives us a romcom I know it will just brighten up my day with the hilarious hi-jinx that happen in the story. It is a very cute story about a guy who meets a girl and this girl throws completely throws off his game. Him trying to woo her made for some fun moments to read about. My own issue with the story is that I don't know how I feel about the hero. He writes these articles and he has this very suave demeanor about him but then outside these articles he's seems different. The author did mention the issues the hero had due to a previous relationship and this new girl throwing him for a loop. Maybe I just needed more time to believe it? But overall, I really did enjoy the story! It definitely made me laugh!

Usually I like Meghan’s stories but this one was just not a hit for me. I think it was too cheesy and I didn’t engage with her main characters all that much.
The story itself wasn’t that interesting to begin with and I think that just caused me to loose interest in reading it.

This is pure Meghan Quinn rom com GOLD, with an adorably awkward – sometimes cringeworthy – hero, little to no angst, and a short length that makes it easy to devour in one sitting. The humor is distinctively Quinn’s style – she writes guys SO well, and this is all about our hero. Wes is definitely the star of the show, and I was 100% okay with that. It is a little different from the type of stories that she’s been writing recently; it’s incredibly light, significantly shorter, and not all that steamy. And that completely worked for the story.

This follows Wes, a so-called “Modern Gentleman,” who writes articles encouraging men to embrace a “gentleman on the streets, alpha in the sheets” mentality. But when Wes’ boss insists that he start infusing personal experiences into his writing, it puts Wes in a bad spot. He’s got to find a woman to date… and he can’t tell her anything about the articles. Despite the fact that Wes’ deception is destined to blow up in his face, he starts dating a woman who proves to be more than he bargained for.

I always love Quinn’s books but her comedy is what really pulls me in, and this has that in spades. Wes thinks he’s cool and sophisticated, but it’s all of the bumps in the road that make this a memorable story. There’s basically zero angst, just funny antics and a lot of lighthearted moments that make the pages fly by. And I loved the fact that it’s a slow burn, with a hero who isn’t a jerk (he’s perhaps a little naive) and a romance that focuses on the emotional connection. If I have one complaint, it would be that I wanted more of June and an ending that didn’t feel quite so rushed, but it was truly a fun, playful read from start to finish. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC via Candi Kane PR (then purchased it for my collection) and am voluntarily leaving a review of this rom com.

Do I Recommend: Yes, but if you haven't read her Cane Brother Trilogy or Vancouver Agitators series go to those first!

Meghan Quinn is the QUEEN of romantic comedies. I am never disappointed when I pick up one of her books as they always have me dying of laughter. Case in point - see pretty much the entire shuffleboard date scene. I could not get over how ridiculous and hilarious this scene was. This book was written a little differently than her other books in that I feel like the book is set up as if you're actively listening to the MCs explain their story in that they feel as though they are talking to you rather than the reader just being in their heads. This was a unique way to write and not something you see often. Also, this book was primarily written from the MMC's POV, which is very atypical in romance from what I've seen.

This book opens with a hilarious post-break-up scene with Wes trying to soothe his broken heart. From there he takes us on the journey of his story which is reminiscent of Matthew McConaughey's character's story in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" without the counterplot of the FMC trying to be as obnoxious as possible. With that in mind, June was a frustrating character at times with how cautious she was given her past. I understand the reason she had to drag her feet was to throw a wrench in Wes' plan, but sometimes it felt a little ridiculous even for a fiction novel. Additionally, the fact that she doesn't have a cell phone or ever use the internet was a VERY convenient plot point to keep June from having any knowledge of who the MMC was and what he was doing throughout. Overall, this book was a nice short palette cleanser in between some of my heavier, dark romance books and I'm never disappointed by this author!

I read Meghan's millionaire romances and loved them so much and truly laughed, downloaded this The modern gentleman but just couldn't start reading it, the blurb didnt really appeal to me. Oh big mistake, this whole book was amazing the way it was written, how funny it was, Wes' two friend Roman and Caden oh amazing and charming (please let them get a story). The whole concept of this story was fantastic, please just read it. I read every word didnt skim any and remember to laugh out loud. Brilliant.

What a fantastically written, fun, different story. My first Meghan Quinn book and I'm so glad it was this one. I love the role reversal in this story, how June makes Was a fumbling idiot who can't stay away and has no way of contacting her. Wes thinks he's the typical modern gentleman, he has women all worked out, but June is a puzzle missing a piece, she throws Wes' ideals, plans and actions into a tailspin and he loves every second of it. Now I'm off to download more Meghan Quinn books because I'm sad this one is over.

Great characters, an interestingly different way of setting the chapters out, especially when June took over near the end, and a hilarious story that will keep you enthralled page after page.

This was such a fun story. Wes is the only one who doesn’t realise he’s doofy- and his character arc is spot on for a mostly-confident 28. June was great - her spitfire attitude and excellent questions made me slightly envious. Maybe I can work in more witty comebacks for daily conversations.

So I have been reading through all of Ms. Quinn’s books and this was one of the funniest and most fun ones. Her humour is on point, with excellent references to pop culture, a cute plot ….mixed with a little 🌶️ and romance. All in all a quick and light read.
