The Neighbour’s Cat: Theodore book 1: A psychological thriller with a nerve shredding climax serial killer thriller (Theodore: The Neighbour's Cat) Kindle Edition
My owner is a serial killer. And I have been powerless to stop him because I... am a cat.
Don’t get me wrong, Dean has never been cruel to me. He provides me with shelter, toys, and plenty of affection. But I have seen his dark side, his brutal treatment of women, and I can’t bear to watch anyone else get hurt.
Jane from next door is attractive for a human, not to mention being incredibly kind. That kindness may get her killed. I’ve seen how Dean looks at her, I know what he’s plotting. In his mind, she’s his for the taking. I wasn’t able to save the others, but I’m not ready to give up. One way or another, I have to figure out how to communicate to Jane that she’s in danger.
Can I find a way to warn her in time? Or will she become just another name on his growing list of victims? Can I stop him before the body count rises?

"I loved this one! This was so good. I honestly thought it would start with a bit more of a punch but I still enjoyed it. We did get there. This book was fun, still suspenseful, and very creative/original." Goodreads review

"A fast-paced, twisted read that I found I did not want to put down! I love that the story did not follow the typical, killer-thriller 'formula'." Goodreads review

"I LOVE Theodore! This is a fresh, original mystery told from the perspective of Theodore the cat. What would you do if your owner was a serial killer? I enjoyed this mystery. It was fun and definitely original." Goodreads review.

"This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable." Goodreads review..."The two POV's are refreshing and the placement complemented the overall plot. Dean's POV was dark, and it clearly depicted his psyche that was terrifying and oozed serial killer. " Goodreads review...."Okay , how unique and refreshing is this story! A serial killer story told from the cat, Theodore's point of view! I felt that in of itself was a fun approach to the novel. A truly fresh idea. Theodore is a cat trying to save a woman from a serial killer. The twist is that his owner is the killer." Goodreads review.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2025It’s cleverly written with a lot of suspense and turns. I love the way. The author shows the point of view from the cat. If you are a cat lover, you will really love this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2025I’ve never been a cat person, but I did form a relationship with two of them when my new roommate failed to mention they lived with her. They are smart and loving. I didn’t realize they are also vindictive and evil. They will tear your house to shreds and look at you like you are the crazy one. I like the notion that not only do they comprehend their owners, they also understand what motivates them. This gorgeous man that has been raised by two loving parents who have been educated in the finest universities and never considered committing any crime, no matter how small. There is nothing to suggest what his motivating force could be. He doesn’t dwell in any of the typical behaviors we read about. He can’t pin it down.
It’s a frustrating situation and we don’t want him killing anyone in this tiny hamlet. But,alas, we must let go and leave the ending to the author. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2025What an interesting book. I have never read anything quite like it, but it was thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you for a very interesting book!!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2024Lots of wait time at Children’s Hospital led to me finishing my current read. Ending the book, I now found out this is a series, so I must find the next book to add to my list!
Someone marketed this straight to me. A serial killer whose cat is the main character. Taken in by Dean, Theodore is one lucky, spoiled kitty. However, he is the only one who sees Dean for what he really is… a great cat owner, but a horrible human killer. And despite the great care he receives, he can not sit back and watch his owner murder and get it away with it again! But. What can a cat do? How can Theodore stop him?
This book volleys between the cat’s point of view as the main character, and Dean’s point of view. It was cute. How could it not be with a cat as the main character? It did have some typos. Nothing major. But as the story came to a close I noticed quite a few more. That’s annoying. Once again, authors, please hire me to edit your books!
Was it the greatest book I have ever read? No. But it was worth the time. The story develops nicely. And everything wraps up how you want it to. The best part? Theodore lives to appear in more books! A super cute feline thriller/mystery. It’s worth a read if you want a quick, entertaining plot. This one does not take a master reader to tear apart. There are a couple of barely described “scenes” which would make me say this is for adult readers. But they are small and non descriptive, and a mature reader wouldn’t even bat an eye.
Now, to find out what wily Theodore is up to in the next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2025I always knew cats were smart, but Ellis has given me something new to ponder in The Neighbour’s Cat! Can they understand what we say? What we do? Who we are? Theodore sure can, and he’s trying his damndest to keep his owner from any more murderous activity. A very refreshing take on a psychological thriller.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2025Theodore was definitely a guardian angel. Well done enjoyed reading this story very much. Looking forward to seeing more from this author, too.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2024If you like a story that gets into people's heads, then you'll enjoy this one.
Dean, a calculating killer, finds Jane as his next victim. But he cares for her, and killing her is not on the table.
What's nice are the incites from Theodore, Dean's cat. Theodore knows that Dean is a killer and does his best to keep Jane alive. Theodore is almost human in his perceptions.
This is a fun book, and the plot changes keep you engaged. I couldn’t put it down.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2024Whenever you have an animal be part of the storyline you know its going to be funny to some degree. I found this story needed this Character to be able to bring the cuteness and funny parts to a serious story. I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone but lets just say if you like cats and or know of Cats and their behavior compared to dogs and enjoy their ways you will enjoy this story. While this book isn’t short by any means I read it quickly in one weekend.

Enjoyed this different view with a cat being a hero. Some of it was cliche but overall i enjoyed reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing
I received Theodore Purr-Fect Secrets (book 3) from BookSirens and was so intrigued with it that I just had to get the first book, The Neighbour's Cat. I loved this book. It is funny and interesting with a bit of romance thrown in.
I enjoyed reading Theodore's point of view and then Dean's point of view. Dean saved Theodore from dying of cold when he had been abandoned as a small kitten, so Theodore is now Dean's cat. Dean looks after him well, but Dean has a secret. Dean is a serial killer. He talks to Theodore not realising that Theodore understands everything he says.
When Dean sets his sights on crime writer Jane as his next victim, Theodore tries to tell her, but she is human and he is a cat.
I loved this book and hope to get the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good!
I liked that this was written from the perspective of the cat, it was different and interesting. Quite liked the book, it wasn't too graphic/traumatic with anything. A solid read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best
The writing style feels too young for an adult, better suited for an older child or teen. However the content of the book wouldn’t be suitable. Confused who the book is for. Lots of missed opportunities but I acknowledge the book may have been written in another language and translated.
