The Outpost (Jamison Valley) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 7,101 ratings

A small town, forced proximity romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry.

Trapped in his tiny mountain cabin, she didn't expect to fall for his big heart.

Exposing a prominent criminal family with an investigative news report didn’t exactly work out the way Sabrina had hoped. Instead of basking in the glory of her article’s success, she’s on the run from a powerful man who wants her dead. To stay safe, she’s forced to trade one bad situation for another. Stuck in the Montana wilderness, she’s secluded from anything resembling civilization or the modern-day world. The only good thing about her situation is the gorgeous mountain man assigned to protect her. Too bad he isn’t the slightest bit interested in a city girl like her.

Beau likes his life quiet and simple. Give him a peaceful day hiking in the woods with his dog, and he’s a happy man. He has no use for large crowds, noisy cities or dramatic women. So when a hotshot reporter rolls into town, dragging her big-time problems with her, he should have run for the hills. Instead, he volunteered to keep her safe. Bringing her into his world won’t be easy, but if he can convince her that Montana isn’t as terrifying as she believes, they might just be the perfect match.

Sexy protective mountain man & a city girl in 1 room cabin
This is book 4 of Jamison Valley Series and although this is a standalone story, the reader will get more enjoyment from reading the books in the series first ♥️ This is the story of investigative journalist Sabrina MacKenzie & Beau Holt, Montana Forest Search and Rescue Ranger. He’s a hot sexy over the top protective mountain man and he just volunteered to “stash her” & keep Sabrina safe from the Russian mafia! Sabrina arrives to Prescott, Montana battered, broken and bruised under the cover of darkness with only the clothes on her back. Felicity, her bff, and her fiancé Silas immediately jump into action and call reinforcements to help find a solution. Beau Holt is impressed by her story & courage and steps up to stash her in a mountain wilderness hideout until they know that she’ll be safe for her to come out of hiding. There’s an immediate mutual attraction between Beau and Sabrina and being forced to share a tiny little shed together with no space to go or sleep separately is not helping. They both agree that they shouldn’t act on any of their attractions to each other, because it can’t go anywhere. She wants her life in the big Seattle city back & Beau will never leave his only home in Montana or, would they? Read this story now and find out what happens, I definitely recommend another incredible story from Devney Perry 💙🧭⛰️ 5🌟 I also listened to the audiobook and both of the narrators, Ava Erickson & Aiden Snow, voices were amazing 💙💙

    5 'REAL LOVE' STARS

    Can you say, book hangover?

This is one of those books that you gobble up and think about for days. This is the first book by author Devney Perry that I've read and definitely will not be my last.

I fell in love with Sabrina's character out the gate. Sabrina is an intelligent, beautiful city-girl and passionate journalist. She went undercover in an infamous criminal family, risking not only her life, but her body and spirit to ensure that the criminal family would never destroy another family.

Her undercover story becomes a popular news headline.
Members of the family scatter while top members are arrested for their crimes.

Beaten and traumatized Sabrina flees to nowhere-Montana to the safety of her best friends home. The safety is temporary. Sabrina realizes that she is a danger to everyone and they need a plan and fast.

    Enter Beau.
The grunting-grumbling-dog-loving-deliciously-burly-firefighter-and Goliath of the mountains.
If anyone can hide Sabrina, it's Beau—a complete stranger to Sabrina.

Beau and Sabrina head deep into the wilderness. Sabrina, the city-girl is out of her element, feeling lost and questioning her actions. Especially after that Biffy—was revealing the truth worth it?

Beau teaches Sabrina the ropes of the wilderness and helps her sort out her thoughts. The playful banter between them is heartwarming. They have an argument, really huge misunderstanding that was very realistic and quite hilarious. They test each other, calling each other out on their bul*shit and Beau reminds Sabrina that she's a strong and courageous woman for what she's done.

The sexual tension between them radiates in a slow tortuous burn and it is simply amazing to read.

Beau is that calming force for Sabrina. He is exactly the man you need in a crisis. Sabrina makes Beau see what he truly wants out of life, what lights his soul on fire—her, it's always been her.

But they come from two very different worlds.
And sometimes what we want doesn't come easily.
Especially when a crime family wants to murder you.
Sacrifices and tough choices will be made.
Will they find their way back to each other?

This book is one of my favorites of 2017. The storyline was unique and not as predictable as most contemporary romances. The setting was very interesting. There was a lot going on in the story to keep you entertained and everything came full circle in the end.

Sabrina was not your stereotypical helpless city girl stuck in the wilderness. I probably would have behaved the same way as Sabrina in that circumstance and I live in the country. She was quite hilarious.

Beau's character was a strong, sexy and powerful man but also worthy of the heroine not some cocky-alpha-douchebag that you often see in romances nowadays.

The love scenes were written beautifully, very tasteful, deeply passionate with some dirty talk thrown in the mix not a lack luster ground-n-pound.

I wished there would have been more purposeful dialogue and an activity or something in the beginning but it didn't bother me that much. I also liked how the author summarized the conversations that weren't that important—you got the jist of it. However there were conversations that I wish the author wouldn't have summarized, especially between Beau and Sabrina in the beginning.

I could talk about this book for hours.
So I will end the review here.
Go check it out. You won't regret it.

Devney Perry's The Outpost follows Beau and Sabrina and tells an angsty and introspective story about personal growth and opening up to love. Sabrina who finds herself in danger after exposing a gun smuggling operation, has to go in hiding. She ends up off the grid and makes the reader laugh with her aversion to bugs and outhouses. Beau is looped into her hiding arrangement and slowly they develop feelings for each other.
Perry has written Beau as a truly honorable and good man, and I won't downplay that I desperately needed him to break on his resolve long before he did. Sabrina definitely wants to act on the chemistry that she feels but I like that she acknowledges that she is in weird place and needs to focus on herself and getting through the ordeal. Perry portrays Sabrina's growth through the months that she is hiding.
"Just as abruptly as it started, it was over. I watched my outpost disappear into the trees through blurry eyes and a side-view mirror. I left a part of my heart at the outpost today."
As with other series that Perry has written, I became invested in her well developed and relatable characters set in another charming Montana town. I definitely plan to read the other books in this series and urge you to do the same if well-written, slow burn HEA's make you happy.

There are absolutely no words to express what an incredibly beautiful story this was. I’ve sighed, I’ve swooned, I’ve gasped with outrage and then with fright, I’ve laughed and cried then laughed and cried again. And as soon as I tapped the last page, I wanted to start all over again. So the only words to truly express how I felt is this: I unequivocally loved this book!

After releasing a story to the newspapers outing a mafia family, Sabrina runs to Montana to her closest friend. She barely made it out of Seattle alive and now she’s faced with deciding what to do to not only protect herself, but those she loves as well. When she is handed over to a giant “Goliath” of a man who will be taking her into the mountains to a Forestry Service outpost, she’s about ready to panic. She doesn’t do nature. But circumstances leave her no choice and she finds herself on a rough and bumpy road with Beau Holt.

Beau is upright and responsible. He takes care of those in his community, his friends and his family. He has a lot on his plate and the next thing that is placed there is the task of taking a city girl up into the mountains in an effort to hide her away until it’s safe for her to return.

I expected this to be a pretty predictable read. You know, city girl gets scared of spider or lost in the woods. Lots of “in the wilderness” chaos. But what I got was so much better! Instead of the predictable, what I got was the story of a woman who, when pushed outside her comfort zone, is strong enough to face it front on.

And not only does Sabrina face it, she slowly begins to embrace it and the peace that comes with it. I gloried in her strength and resiliency when she had already survived so much and there was so much more still hanging over her head.

Beau was the perfect gentle giant. He immediately recognized what Sabrina needed and set about to make it happen. Then when faced with her fears and insecurities regarding the outpost, he helped steer her into calmer waters.

He is instantly attracted to her and instantly knows it can’t go anywhere. They are too different and their lives reflect those differences. But since this is romance, so he doesn’t leave it at that. I would’ve actually loved more of Beau’s point of view because he was just so dang good, and sweet, and swoon worthy.

Together this couple made me happy. It was so obvious they belonged together. But each of them are struggling with their own interpretation of the situation and despite talking it out, things just always seem to get discombobulated even more.

There were so many wonderful heartbreaking moments that ripped my heart out. When Sabrina thinks a simple thought and sends it into the universe I just about doubled over with heartache. Oh man. Who knew that such a simple thing could tear a reader apart? Very few books make me cry, but there were times that I was sobbing so hard I had to just shut my kindle until I could pull myself together. Embarrassing I know, but true nonetheless.

This is by far my favorite of Ms. Perry’s Jamison Valley series. Although, to be honest, I say that about each book. I can’t even imagine how she could outdo herself with the next. But I don’t doubt she will.

Dual POV although primarily the heroine’s

Sabrina is an investigative reporter and she is now in danger after exposing her boyfriend and his gun running operation. He is linked to the Russians and when he found out she was looking into his business he nearly killed her. The only place she could think of going was Prescott where her best friend lived. Once there her friends, sheriff husband knew they had to put her someone safe and Beau their friend suggested one of the small outpost up in the mountains. Sabrina was horrified at the thought but didnt want to put anyone else in danger. Beau went with her and suddenly her life was very different in a small cabin. Being close to Beau did her no favours as he was this gorgeous outdoor type giant of a man. Chemistry finally had her giving in and it was wonderful to be with him but how does a city girl fit in with a mountain man? It is a good story, in depth characters, drama and a love story what more could you want.

Beau and Sabrina's book was another mesmerizing one from the Jamison Valley Series. The Outpost was captivating by its spectacular setting in the Montana mountains. I enjoyed the evolution of this couple's relationship. This opposites attract romance was gorgeous on all levels and packed the perfect balance of sweet, funny, emotional, steamy and suspenseful.

Beau was such a great hero! He was genuine and had a protective side that was so apparent when he was asked to help keep Sabrina safe. I enjoyed how their moments spent in isolation together brought them closer. Despite the different worlds they lived in, they had something to learn from each other. Their chemistry was something special too. They shared such a powerful emotional bond that had me sighing at their beauty.

The intrigue of this novel was electifying and had me on the edge all read long. This aspect of the story was so well blended into the whole storyline. Seriously, I only a great words for The Outpost that left me dreamy eyed! This story showed how the simple things in life are often the most important and meaningful.
