The Outlaw: An Enemies-to-lovers, Second chance romance (Hayden Family Book 3) Kindle Edition
From Amazon Charts bestselling author Jennifer Millikin comes the third book in a contemporary Western romance series following four siblings juggling the weight of their infamous last name with the desires of their hearts.
There’s a thin line between being a hero and a villain, and I’m well aware I walk right down the middle of it. My reputation precedes me, even when I’m making a bad choice for the right reason. This is how I wind up in the back of a police car late one night.
My infamous last name keeps my record clean, with a single caveat: community service at a ranch recently purchased by Jo Shelton. I think I’d rather go to jail than serve time with the woman who has made it clear she can’t stand me, even though we used to be friends.
Despite the tense atmosphere and how she keeps me at arms’ length, I show up every day, ready to work. Quickly I learn a valuable lesson: while it’s difficult being around someone I don’t like, it’s far more difficult being around someone I find myself intensely attracted to, but cannot have.
Because Jo, the woman who's driving me crazy with her quiet strength and beautiful face, is in a relationship. With a man who, I’d like to point out, is not out there getting his hands dirty on his girlfriend’s ranch. Possession is 9/10th’s of the law, and as far as I’m concerned, I’m currently in possession of Jo’s time and attention.
One day, the unexpected happens. Her blue eyes pierce my callused exterior, seeing deep down into a wound I work hard to hide. It’s in this moment, and so many that follow, that I become certain there’s no hope left for me. I’m in love with Jo, and I’m desperate to show her I’m someone worthy of her love in return.
Lucky for me, nobody rises to the occasion quite like an outlaw.
*Author's Note: The Hayden Family series is standalone, but for maximum enjoyment it is recommended they are read starting with book one.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 20244.25⭐️ The Outlaw is Wyatt Hayden’s story, the third brother and the one who is just as tough as his older brothers but also more. Jo and Wyatt have been circling each other in the past two books, and now they’re thrown together to make something special.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2024Wyatt's charecter was great as a standup guy for community, family and family. He was viewed wrongly by some as wild when he actually was quietly helping and protecting others without Fanfair. His romance with No was wonderful. If ever two people uplifted and were ment to be, it was these charecters.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2021The Outlaw is the third book in the Hayden Family series by Jennifer Millikin. While this can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the first two books because they are both quality, and it will increase your reading enjoyment of this one.
Jo crushed on Wyatt in high school, she threw caution to the wind and acted on those feelings one night but come morning he didn't remember it at all. It's been over a year, she's shoved those feelings down and turned them into anger towards him. She finally has the opportunity to make her dreams of opening a teen therapeutic ranch come true. Only she needs labor, and she can't refuse the offer of free labor even if it is in the form of Wyatt Hayden. Everyone thinks the worst of Wyatt, and he ignores it while he continues to help the people he cares about in the only way he knows how. He has to help out Jo as his community service, and while he's at it, he's determined to find out why she hates him and prove to her that he's not what the town has painted him as.
I have been anticipating Wyatt's book because I knew he was so much more than meets the eye, and I'm glad I was right! I don't even know where to start. Wyatt just evoked all the emotions from me between living under the weight of his father's disapproval, trying to take care of his best friend's family without turning on him, bonding with his nieces & nephews, and helping out elderly citizens who have no one. He was sensitive in the best ways, his ways might not be conventional, but he shows how much he cares with his actions. Jo is such a strong character, working hard her whole life to keep her head above water and having an end goal of helping troubled teens. While they tip toe around each other in the beginning there is some serious sexual tension between them. However, the actual intimate scenes were surprisingly low steam. They were good, but I just wanted a bit more from them. Both Joe and Wyatt just have such huge hearts, they are perfect for one another. I loved the communication and trust between them from the start.
The Outlaw has the enemies to lovers trope meshed a bit with the second chance trope. dissolved before anything physical happened between her and Wyatt. NO cheating makes me a happy reader. The Outlaw is definitely my favorite of this series. Wyatt stole my heart and never let it go. A romance with emotion, a bit of danger, family, and mending relationships.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2024Wyatt is an interesting character but likable after the first few chapters. He never got the apology he deserved and dad fell short on his end imo.
Jo was lovable but her storyline was incredibly predictable-which is fine. She is rather dull unfortunately.
I did like how this writing better than the previous two books. Not every single action/movement was explained in this one. I still think the author throws in too many different storylines at once. There’s several little storylines that usually just fade away.
I do find it funny that this family just murders people basically and go to their next potluck like nothing. At this point I’m more entertained than trying to make sense of it. They’re ranchers after all not mafia kingpins. Lol
My favorite cover so far though. Jessie is up next and I’m hoping she can win me over because currently she’s a severely lacking character.
Oh, and I’m disgusted with Sara being a psychologist?!?! Whaaaaat? The way she’s lived her life in recent years-including the way she used Wyatt and putting her kids through all of that? She’s the LAST person who I’d want working with my troubled child. Seriously, that makes NO sense at all.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2024Wyatt Hayden and Jo Shelton have known each other since high school, and she had a pretty big crush on him. Several years later, they were on a weekend trip with several mutual friends and ended up *together*. But the next morning, he had no memory of it since he’d been drinking. So Jo wrote him off.
She’s been on her own for a long time, and she has a dream she’s been working toward of building a ranch & camp for kids with troubled lives. When a long abandoned ranch comes up for sale, she buys it. It needs a lot of work, and Wyatt is tasked with helping her as a form of community service.
I liked the story, and I really liked getting the real details on why Wyatt is so secretive with his family. He’s a bit of a vigilante in a way – which is a very Hayden trait. But I do think he was hiding a lot more than he really should have, or needed to. One other thing I questioned about the story was – how often is a ranch or camp for wayward youth a profit making venture, and why on earth wasn’t she filing as a non-profit and getting grants?
But aside from those little details, I really loved seeing Wyatt’s heart opening to Jo. Each Hayden brother has a distinct personality and I’ve loved reading about them all finding love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meet the Outlaw...will be be tamed?
The third of four books in the Hayden Family series and I have to say, my favourite so far. I love Wyatt and Jo. Their stories while so different are so similar. Both wanting to be loved and feel worthy. Forced together after Wyatt gets himself into some trouble, a romance years in the making erupts full force. Soon, all of the secrets each of them holds come out. Neither of them is exactly as the other thought, and not in a bad way. Wyatt learns he is not the disappointment he thought he was for so long and Jo makes her wildest dreams come true. I really connected with this story on a personal level and look forward to reading all about Calamy Jessie next!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hooked from the start!
This Hayden Family series has me in a chokehold. Every time I finish one of the books, I have to force myself not to read the next one because then the series ends. But I guess I’m finally at the end and have no choice now! From the first book onwards, Wyatt Hayden has had my attention. The younger brother who lives a little recklessly, gets into all kinds of trouble, adds extra grey hair to his family’s heads…how do you not love him? I really liked Jo too. After seeing more of her in The Maverick, I was really curious about how her story would unravel and oh boy, did not expect those twists and turns!
Can’t wait to find out what kind of havoc Jessie and Sawyer get into in the last book of this series!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS
I loved Jo and Wyatt's story! I was eager to find out about this Hayden brother, and I can easily say he is my absolute favourite! I was captivated from the beginning, right up until the end. I'm eager to read The Calamity. The Outlaw by Jennifer Millikin is an EPIC read that will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
