Having read a few of Billy Ray Chitwood’s books, I expect a rich tapestry of intrigue, high-stakes rip-offs, handsome heroes, and pretty girls. The Power Merchants have all these with a little politics and Covid 19 thrown in for good measure.
The book opens with our hero Bradly Bennett trying to figure out where he is. He discovers he is in a ditch on the outskirts of town, having had a run-in with a couple of thugs hell-bent on taking his life. From there, the story only gets better.
The author has taken the headlines from our day and turned them into a fascinating story of corruption, lust, and greed. Billionaires are behaving badly and corrupt politicians. To help readers take in all this evil, the author has constructed a parallel romantic story that will please everyone.
The author has a way of telling a story almost as if he and the reader are experiencing it in real-time. He paces the action, so it doesn’t take a superhero to keep up. He also solves the mysteries like a natural person would, not relying on miracles or complicated solutions.
This is the best part of the author’s books. They are very readable, and the stories are compelling enough to want more. If you want an honest read with plenty of punch, The Power Merchants fits the bill.
