The Roommate Agreement Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 1,087 ratings

Let your homeless best friend stay with you, he said. Being roommates will be fun, he said. It's only temporary, he said.
He never said I'd fall for him.

You know what isn't 'temporary?' The endless stream of dirty socks in my bathroom and empty food packets under the sofa—and don't even get me started on the hot guys who take over my living room every Sunday to watch sports.
I can't take anymore.
So I propose a roommate agreement. One that will bring peace and order back to my life, complete with rules that might just stop my newfound crush on my best friend in its tracks.
After all, there’s only so many times you can see your best friend naked before you start to lose your mind.

Rules. They're meant to be broken... Aren't they?

This really was a fun read filled with all the things that I've come to love about this author: quirky, but well written characters, humor, snark ~ sometimes OTT (though not so OTT in this one) ~ but always funny, and just the right amount of smexyness to make things heat up. - Kahea, Goodreads Reviewer

New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Emma Hart, has written more than seventy romance novels in the last decade. She loves writing snarky, swoony romcoms with a side of chaos, occasionally venturing into romantic mysteries. Which are exactly the same as her romcoms, just with a dead body or two. That’s the reason for her questionable Internet history—at least that’s the story she’s sticking to.

She lives on a smallholding in North Wales with her husband and their two children, a clowder of very fluffy cats, one giant German Shepherd, and an undisclosed number of chickens and ducks. Don’t ask her to count them. She will not, thank you very much.

When she’s not writing or chasing ducks in her pyjamas, you can find her creating cosy gaming content for her Youtube channel and live streaming on Twitch.

Another great win from Hart!
Let’s be real here, if you have a best friend of the opposite sex they are one of two things: Your sibling or your crush. In the case of both Shelby and Jay they act like siblings filled with the fighting, name-calling, real-talk, and rough-housing. But both of them want the other in a more intimate way and are in COMPLETE DENIAL. After moving in with her, Jay has become a nuisance to introvert Shelby (#IntrovertForTheWin). He eats her prized snacks, doesn’t clean up after himself, and invited the hoard of his gym buddies over every weekend to take over her living room. But despite all that, she’s undeniable attracted to him and having him walk around in just his basketball shorts is detrimental to her fortitude and her work ethic. Hence, The Roommate Agreement (inspired by both Shelby and Hart’s love of The Big Bang Theory). Rules set in place to keep her home tidy and her libido in check. But a few glasses of wine sets allllll that ablaze when her inner vixen comes out to confess her feelings to Jay.Jay is all about his new roomie, she’s his bestie after all. Like the kid sister he’s always had cause they’ve known each other 20+ years. But now that he’s seen her in deadline mode, tiny pajama set mode, and fresh-faced no-makeup mode, there’s a startling change to Jay’s emotions. It’s undeniably attracted to his best friend and he’s just signed on to her lease. Accepting the Roommate Agreement is the least he can do to keep distance between them so he doesn’t cross a line. But what happens when she crosses that line? Oh all bets are off and Jay’s going to kiss her like she’s never been kissed. Now they just have to figure out how two best friends that live together can now enter into the world of dating and learning that side of each other.Jealousy, drama, humor, embarrassing baby photos. This romance truly has it all. It’s a bit of a slow burn with a teaaaaasing middle, but it so worth the wait my readers. Shelby’s introvert side battling against Jay’s extrovert side is absolutely hysterical. I’ve been there; I get that; it’s so awkward. But these two have the benefit of being best friends who know each other inside and out. Throw in the romance and its 20 years (well less because they were children) of pent up lust and want exploding between them. I loved it so much! I was metaphorically (because e-reader) flipping page after page desperate to find out when these two would finally get their heads out of their butts. Another great win from Hart!

The Roommate Agreement by Emma Hart is a standalone friends to lovers romance that is a slow sarcastic burn right up until the lust explodes all over you, your kindle, and all over Shelby and Jay. The right blend of love, lust, sarcasm, crazy friends and even crazier family members that I thoroughly enjoy from a must read author.

Shelby is quirky, introverted, a Big Bang Theory nerd, writer, wielder of the sword of sarcasm and penned her very own Roommate Agreement to try and keep her best friend Jay in line. What seemed like the correct choice at the time has turned into day after day of struggling with his random socks, slobbish mess, and smoking hot abs. Is it too late to make an amendment to the roommate agreement to outlaw lustful thoughts, looks and actions?

Loved this. Emma's writing is like hanging out with an old friend that you see a few times a year. The comfort of knowing that person well with the added benefit of time between visits so that your stories are fresh and exciting. Enjoy!

The Roommate Agreement is the latest RomCom from Emma Hart, and as usual, she had me laughing from beginning to end.

Shelby & Jay have been best friends for 20 years until he moved in and proved to be the worst roommate ever. Now it's all she can do to not strangle him. While she's not dreaming about kissing him. Developing a crush on your best friend isn't ideal, and when he's also your roommate things can get a bit awkward.

These characters were so much fun, their chemistry undeniable and their banter addicting. Shelby's rules and Jay's lack of cleaning knowledge had me in tears I was laughing so hard, and even with some minimal dram thrown in, the comedic aspect stayed until the very end.

If you're looking for a light, fun book this is definitely it!

wasn’t so bad. I dig friends to lovers trophy and yes, there were here and there funny moments. Shelby was quite repetitive and struggled to show her feelings a little too much. I lost interest b/c the storyline dragged too long. I caught myself not focusing due to the bantering/silly jokes...I wanted to just say, get to the point You 2! Overall, it was still cute and light hearted kind of read.

I'm in awe of Emma Hart! Her romcoms are one of the things that brings me unmitigated joy and laughter, and she succeeded again with Shelby and Jay and this most unconventional road to romance. I heart a good friends-to-lovers book and the friendship between these two is going strong (around 20 years). These two are the very definition of polar opposites (besides the actual north and south poles). So what happens when two lifelong best friends are now roommates? Comedy. That's what happens. The admittance of feelings that might, possibly, go beyond mere friendship. I loved the banter between Shelby and Jay, and the inner dialogue of both characters was pretty funny as well.

This book was so much fun. You have Shelby and Jay who have been best friends for 20 years and have been living together for three months. They start to have feelings for each other but are afraid to say anything because they don't want to jeopardize their friendship. Throw in his best bud and her best girlfriend who are a couple and their crazy families and you have a book with humor, touching parts, some heat and more humor. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey to their HEA. Watch out for the yellow submarine penis.

There's a reason this trope if a favorite, it always delivers. Shelby and Jay are best friends who become roommates, you know where this is going. The journey there is fun, flirty and hot! Their banter just flows, I found myself laughing out loud through out!

Very well written and the story just totally grabbed hold of me and kept me reading. The character interaction is totally relatable from the main and secondary characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friendship, Oreos, dirty shock and love! I love Emma Hart, til the next book!
Reviewed in Australia on April 3, 2019
Emma Hart always delivers a funny & romantic book that makes you crave for best friends with chocolate cake!

Shelby & Jay are best friends over 20 years, they know each other's families, friends, what makes each thin and thick, they are each others person.

Shelby is a writer, trying to survive in this hard community, and she can’t survive anymore by herself, Jay comes to her rescue and be her beloved roommate.

    Looks fun right, nope!

Jay is a mess, completed, he leaves his socks everywhere, doesn’t do his laundry, housework doesn’t have on his dictionary, but he knows very well where the stash of Oreos are any time of the day, Shelby’s Oreo, and drives her mad.

Our girls love The BBT, and when she comes with The Roommate Agreement I almost peed in my pants!

I love the banter between them, friends helping each other, his telling her of that shower is her friend made me laugh so hard, or him trying to wash his cloth for the first time without detergent, I love this book so hard.

I highly recommend this book; it’s hilarious, romantic, so steamy and friends to lovers is everything you want and didn’t even know.

    5 Stars and much more!
