What makes a good villain?
Well written with a thick and intriguing back-story that has chiseled the villain into an intelligent cerebral assassin with a no holds barred, anarchist, watch the world burn attitude. A character that embodies the dark side of the human condition with reckless abandon. Has to be conniving, manipulative, sassy, intelligent, and illogically rooted in a desire for self and societal destruction.

Wrote a blog about this topic: What is it about the human dark side that gives good stories? The link is listed on my author page.

Pick any three fiction characters. These are now your road trip crew. Where do you go and what do you do?
Hannibal Lecter, Heath Ledger's Joker, and one of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space. We're going to a cannibal and alien convention where we are keynote speakers tasked with delivering a state of the union address involving interplanetary takeovers with an update on how our human mind manipulating efforts are progressing. And they are coming along
exactly as planned.

What are your future project(s)?
I have a few projects stirring. The Rose is the first in a planned series of seven books over three interconnected series. So, I'll be knee deep in alien lore, theories, and conspiracies for a long while. But I'm also writing horror thriller novels. I have two I'm working on currently, the first is my editing in progress, Golem, which takes place in the late 1940's, early 1950's New York City and chronicles the desperate act of a high society socialite and sculptor who incarnates a demon into her statue (Golem) who wreaks havoc on every aspect of New York's infrastructure with the help of possessed orphans in an attempt for supreme power and control over the human race.

I'm also writing a second horror thriller, Jigglyspot and the Zero Intellect. Carnivals, Cannibals, and Clowns! Oh My.

Once Jigglyspot is completed I'll jump back into science fiction mode and write Vol. 2 for The Rose followed by the second Rose connected series and trilogy, Indigo.

Who would you say is the main character of your latest novel? And tell me a little bit about them!
Sanos is an alien vampire and leader of the military faction tasked with overseeing genetic experimentation in the underground medical complex. Best described as the villain you love to hate. Sanos has grown weary of the alliance between vampires and humans, creating mischief and an uprising within his people. But when he gets a taste of the new blood concocted from a laboratory pill given to humans with the purpose to destroy gray matter in the brain, he turns wild and ravenous.

Tell us something about your newest release that is NOT in the blurb.
I struggle with this question. Why? Because I want the reader to discover the many twists and turns, including a number of different alien and monster species that are in the book and not in the blurb. As a reader myself, I don't want to know much about the book I'm reading other than the genre and how and where I came across finding the book (usually Goodreads or a friend's recommendation). Unless, of course, it's a new book by one of my go to authors, in which case I still don't want to know too much. I don't even read the description because I want to be as surprised as possible. Writing is the same; I'm usually as surprised as the reader to find those little tidbits, nuances, and unexpected revelations and bombshells.

I know, I apologize, just answer the question right? In that case what I will say about this topic is for the reader to be on the lookout and very, very leery of the grey alien, Mono, who is a featured character in The Rose Vol. 1. Mono was an incredible character to write. She had so many surprises up her sleeve I was in awe over her resolve and devious evil ways. And when she begins using her telepathic and telekinetic mind to tear apart alien vampires, well, the entire story takes on a whole new game.

Do you listen to music when you're writing?
100%. Always. Music can and often does help to set the tone for any specific scene or emotion required to get the scene completed with as much emotion or pep the story needs. Usually this process happens prior to sitting down and writing, although I'll keep the station playing while writing. I have an uncanny knack to tune out just about any sound or goings on while I'm writing so music is a welcomed distraction. Complete and total shut down with the mind tuned into the story, which plays out in my head like a movie. All I do is extrapolate the movie through the fingertips while clicking those wonderful and beautiful keys on the keyboard.

The type of music depends on the scene, the story, or the genre. Music choices can range from Led Zeppelin to Pearl Jam. Janis Joplin to Louie Armstrong. Depends on the mood. Also, meditation music or classical music is often a go to choice and is usually the norm when editing.

Any weird things you do when you're alone?
Sing really loud and really bad. I love to sing, unfortunately there hasn't been a person on this or any other planet that loves to
hear me sing, so I do this on my own (most of the time at least). Yes, I'm that strange dude driving down the road and singing at the top of my lungs, probably rocking it out to Led Zeppelin or Pearl Jam. Also I'm that annoying neighbor pelting out song tunes to the gathering of cats on the front lawn. At least the cats enjoy it.

I write books, that’s what I do. Horror, scifi, thrillers, fantasy, and sometimes a literary gem. Good ones, crazy ones, fun books, entertaining books, scary, creepy books that are absolutely insane, books with depth and books with excitement, and books that tear out the heart of humanity and throws it on a slab to be feasted on. Yeah, that’s what I do, I write books. Any questions?

I'm currently working on more than a few projects. The Sci-Fi/Fantasy series, The Dark Veil: The Rose Vol. III, the horror thriller series, Girl on a Mission, the supernatural thriller series, The Hypnotist, and a follow up to Jigglyspot and the Zero Intellect, tentatively titled, The Sleepy Hollow Incident.

I just finished reading The Rose by P.D. Alleva. It’s an incredible sci-fi novel that delves into a horrifying realm of nightmare scenarios. The author throws us into the final gasping breaths of a World War 3 between the USA, Russia and China in which there are no clear winners. Surviving populations on all continents have been herded into camps for their own “safety”. But with the war finally over…safety from what? It turns out the camps all cover entrances to immense underground facilities. Those facilities, some of which are actually massive cities, have been populated by different alien species for thousands of years. That’s right…according to this author, aliens are real. UFO sightings really are aliens flying around our skies. Yes, there really are little gray aliens and reptilians, too…and even more monsters and beasties than you can possibly imagine. . .and they are tired of living their lives hidden underground - out of human sight.

Imagine a world – right here on our own earth – where governments are well aware that other beings exist on this planet. . .where governments willingly work with these other creatures because those entities are more powerful than our greatest scientists or armies. . .even though it is well known that the others do not have human’s best interests at heart. In fact…some of them even consider humanity as nothing more than food!

Is it possible that humans have been sharing the earth with one or more hidden species for thousands of years? I’ve always been curious about such things. In my younger days my curiosity even drew me to attend a few local MUFON meetings. Though I heard lots of stories there – some interesting and some kind of scary - nothing I witnessed convinced me that aliens really existed. But still…the curiosity never really faded completely away. One of my favorite shows today is Ancient Aliens, mainly because the producers have a way of making it seem so possible that most of those ancient structures around the world must have been designed and built by something other than humans. But if true…where did they all go?

Did they fly back to their planets promising to return another day or did they go underground right here on earth? Are there really aliens working with our world governments in ways that both help and harm human kind? I’m not going to totally discount any possibilities but I truly hope that the possible future that the author of The Rose envisions is totally and completely inaccurate. The aliens in this story are not the nice ones. Surely, aliens can’t all be bad, can they? Maybe not, but I won’t find that out until the sequel is published. Hurry up and finish it Mr. Aleva. I can’t wait to read it!

There are some great one-liners in this book so I had to use one as my headline!

Let’s start with the obvious – alien vamps means gore so expect a lot of blood and death. The blurb reveals this and the plot basics so I won’t review those here. There is some great world building slid it into the plot including some non-human gifts and technology. I very much enjoyed those aspects and how they were revealed slowly. This new alien dystopian world incorporates tension and twists from several shifting alliances. While I’m usually more invested in character growth, I kept turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next and how it was going to end. The plot does move along well with a lot of action.

BTW, it’s multiple third person POV which is my preference. However, this means it’ll take a bit to get everyone straight in your head at the beginning and grasp what’s going on. It is a close 3rd person so if you prefer 1st person because you get in a character’s head, no need to worry. You’ll get character thoughts in this book too.

Now, let’s move on to what isn’t as obvious – the mysticism surrounding the Rose and the Blades. This was one of my favorite parts to be honest. It’s more philosophical and magical than the I expected. Clearly, this is the author’s personal spin and it’s unique and fun! There’s also some great foundations laid for next book so expect some outstanding questions left to be resolved. I’m particularly intrigued by Robyn Winter!

If aliens, vampires, or dark fantasy is on your book list, definitely give this one a try – I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

A great combination of conspiracy theories combined with sci-fi. Governments cover up worldwide events, telling people only what they think they can handle, and even that have very few elements of truth to it. Add on top of that the fact that alien species are also involved in the coverup, and you end up with this intriguing story of the aftermath of World War Three.

The story will keep you guessing who's cause is just, if any. We all see things from the point of view of how we've been brought up, so who's to say what is right and what is wrong? It was easy to understand why the different species behave as they do. But throughout the story, there's still the unknown, the master plan. Is there a justifiable reason for all the destruction? The story certainly makes you think about it in terms of our own cultures and the strife that occurs in our world. Can we say "our" way is the right way? Factions divide even among nations, the same as they do among the alien species.

Lots of originality in the development of the species, and plenty of action to keep the sci-fi fan invested in the story. My only regret is that I have to wait to find out what happens next...

A friend recommend this to me for a change of pace from my usual literary fiction/historical fiction genre. I’m up for trying anything new because for me it’s not about the genre but the story. Who doesn’t like a good story? This one certainly held up. This well-crafted sci fi/paranormal themed book is tightly-written and fast paced. Words are thoughtfully used to create action-packed scenes and dialogue. The story begins with commentary on forty-eight hours ago seeming like a different world. A sadistic galaxy. What happened forty-eight hours ago was the ending of WW III’s. Now it seems things can settle down into a peaceful existence. Here’s where things get interesting with unraveling layers of story and characters development begins and moves along surprisingly deeper. Right away I want more. And as I turn the pages one nightmare is traded for another. I’m not going to retell the story line but what I do want to say is this was a good read. A well-done story. This is an easy sit-down-in-an-afternoon read. Very entertaining.

In a dystopian world, aliens have taken over the planet and humans are imprisoned and kept in a zombie-like state. Only the last few free humans remain on the run, trying desperately to escape the invasion. Sandy and Phil are two of these last surviving rebels and Sandy is pregnant.
But the aliens are closing in...
And did I mention that they are blood-sucking vampires with a diabolical plot for the unborn child? Eek!
PD Alleva has masterfully woven these two classic genres together in a wonderfully original and well-planned tale. there are different types of aliens, some with psychic powers. There are well-constructed battles and action aplenty as good guys are captured and begin a desperate fight for Sandy's baby and their freedom. Did I mention spaceships? I love them.
I would have liked a glossary as there were quite a few characters to keep track of in this expansive tale but overall I found it very engaging. Thrills a minute and full of surprises.
Recommended for fans of fantasy, sci-fi, aliens, vampires and action adventures, in other words, pretty much everyone. Give it a try. 4.5 stars from me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Horror, Sci Fi, WWIII, Dystopian Future. Beware the Dark. It just might Bite!!!

An excellent book from an accomplished writer. Beware. This is a very Gory Horror Book, yet combines this theme unusually with Science Fiction, awesome post apocalyptic survival and challenges, aliens and all that that entails. Easy to read writing that introduces the reader to Space Vampires, magnificently conceived diverse numbers of alien races of both advanced nature and yet who are frighteningly and undeniably malignent in their search for the means of securing the long term survival of their Species. Reminiscent of Germany in the 2nd World War, the reader is faced with research producing abominations abounding. Diverse physical, mental, psychic experiments horrors beyond imagination propel this book outside the normal scope of traditional horror. Yes, It is a bloody horror novel, utterly incorporating a wonderful Space Adventure having many concepts yet to be explored and fulfilled by the almost certain sequel to come. It raises then destroys ethical considerations as both the good and the bad cross boundaries in equal measure in pursuit of their Racial aims, survival by any means!!! Yes, by any means even utter destruction. By initial inference the enhanced Masters are in turn threatened by others of even worse evil intent, a long term goal which threatens known sentient Races In, Under, On, and beyond the Earth. The frightening origins of this wondrous bloody tale have yet to be revealed, the endgame an anticipatory nightmare. It is Gory, a bloodbath for those who love such novels, but beyond the casual reader there are deeper, more profound elements that many readers will never have come across before. It is also a fast action book with human characters one can relate to. The writer intelligently widens the scope of the novel to give profound insights into Alien minds and diverse cultural codes of honour. Presenting surprisingly cruel powerful domineering races themselves with a range of conflicted goals. All does not sit well within the power structures behind the bloody dominance of Earth's people. The clean conscious divisions are well constructed and played out in the storyline. Not all books do that, the baddies are normally one dimensional in most books. This is a rompingly good violent a8dventure with a selfless though driven hero who employs deep psychic and esoteric means to supplement his awesome skills in his quest to aid a tortured mother and her fought over new baby. . It is a bloody, challenging novel, paced by events nearing conclusion accelerating the action. My one, personal, regret is that as chapters flit from character to character edging the tension whilst an erstwhile bomb situation often alluded to does not in conclusion add all that much to the Finale. The flitting between hero, baddie, hero, baddie etc against the clock as it were would have made a greater impact in the storyline had each chapter had an integral countdown clock, pushing the already shredded anticipatory nerves even more to the limit. But that is my personal feeling. It does not detract from the book but I feel the bomb clock countdown or something similar would have enhanced the wonderful tension the author has already created. Hence, for me, 4 stars, though I accept others may justifiably not agree, It is very much a personal perspective. I look forward to the sequel. As should you!!!

If you like books about werewolves, aliens, vampires, then you'll definitely like this read. Loads of fascinating characters that will make you gasp to their actions. Who are the enemies? Which ones can Sandy trust? What happened to baby Adam? Disheartened that I'll have to wait for the next release to find out.
Well written and highly recommended for alien, werewolves, and vampire fans.
