About the Author

BL Maxwell grew up in a small town listening to her grandfather spin tales about his childhood. Later she became an avid reader and after a certain vampire series she became obsessed with fanfiction. She soon discovered Slash fanfiction and later discovered the MM genre and was hooked.
Many years later, she decided to take the plunge and write down some of the stories that seem to run through her head late at night when she's trying to sleep.

I loved The Slow Death by BL Maxwell and Nic Starr. It's the first book in the Four Packs Trilogy. I loved Zander and Marrok and their chemistry. I loved the plot of the story and I thought having a disease that got worse the more often you shifted and at the same time made you want to shift more to be very interesting. I also liked that it could be managed with weekly blood transfusions from a compatible donor. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Interesting take on the shifter world. Usually no disease affect them and this story made the shifters seem more approachable to being real. They have mortality and disease that can harm them. I think it allowed readers to connect with characters more. I loved Zander and marrok. Zander feeling the pressure to be the next alpha despite it originally being his older brothers role before he died. And challenging his father on matters he feels passionately about. To protect his pack. Marrok and Zander had a connect from the start and worked together to find a solution to the problem. Cool story.

This story features Alexander Kingston (Zander), Marrok Blain (Mar), and Grady Summerville. Zander is the West Territories alpha’s son, Mar is an expert in the medical field for TSD (The slow death) from the Northern Territories and Grady is their close friend who has TSD. He is unable to find a blood donor due to his rare blood type. Grady is dying but Zander and Mar are going to do anything they can to save his life. There is plenty of drama, denying feelings and steam in this book. Enjoyed every minute reading this book.

Maxwell and Starr open a wolf shifter series setting a world of 4 territorial packs. The MCS are mid twenties and different packs, but mates. The plot revolves around a shifter disease, treatment being its thread. Sex is hot, political dynamics intriguing, characters well drawn.

First in series (Four Pack Trilogy). Paranormal wolf shifters. Fated mates. Quick read. There is a tragic disease that affects shifters, and while working to save his friend, Marrok has to deal with Zander, the Alpha’s son of a neighboring pack. Sparks fly as attraction hits, and Marrok and Zander start a relationship while trying to convince the packs to work together to pool resources in combating the Slow Death. More world building about pack territory and the dynamics of how they interacted would have been helpful, as well as further explanation into the research for the Slow Death beyond just the registry. I wish there had been more time spent on Marrok and Zander building emotional ties as we are given glimpses of their backgrounds but not enough to feel fully invested in their relationship. There are hints of future pack conflicts between the territories and the next couple that might be the focus of the next book in the series. 3.5 rounded up.

There are so many interesting elements in this book, many of which manage to feel both familiar and fresh at the same time. A world of shifters with complex and often fraught dynamics? Check. A fated mate pairing that comes up against obstacles posed by those dynamics? Check. Significant peril? Check. In this case, it's a deadly disease that the protagonists work together to combat, and it’s a challenging and emotional process. For interesting world building, compelling character development, and a narrative flow that was easy to get caught up in and never felt either too slow or overly rushed, I would definitely recommend this book.

This is an AMAZING Book written by two exquisite Authors whose writing style compliment each other perfectly. NIC STARR and BL MAXWELL have created a new shifter scenario that is going to continue to get better. If you love shifters you are really going to enjoy this pack. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS WONDERFUL BOOK!!!!!!!!!

This is a good beginning to a new series. It's a mix of romance/mates, the struggle to save the life of a friend, and managing pack policies in a changing world. I loved Alexander and the way he grew out of the shadow of his (dead) older brother, challenged the status quo, and eventually stood up to his father, his pack alpha. The backdrop of rival packs, pack politics, and the dreaded Slow Death set a great environment for a story with drama, action, danger, fated mates, and love.

I received a free copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

First, you would not believe that two authors wrote this book. Not once did I think there wasn't a seamless transition of each part.

Second, great world, character and story building. It is a unique storyline, and it kept me gripped all the way through. Again, not going to give anything away, but trust me, it's well worth a read, ohh did I miss the bit about telling you that there's a lot of hot s*x and two majorly hot main characters.

I loved the characters and the story, just in case I didn't quite relay that. So now I'm on my knees and hands together, asking that this turns into audio. I can imagine that would be incredible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unique and somewhat thrilling!

I was intrigued from the first chapter and I liked the scene and character building from the start. There was a depth and passion to Marrok and Zander and their chemistry was off the charts. I love that Zander fought for what he believed was right no matter the cost and by doing so found himself and grew into the Alpha he was meant to be. TSD sounds horrid and I like that a disease is the "bad guy" in a shifter story rather than packs fighting or war of some sort. I also thought the stepping down of Zander's dad was surprising but in a good way, no unnecessary bloodshed. There is still a mystery and possible "deception" of the West Pack and I'm so curious to see if it where this will be taken in the next story. I'm also glad this one didn't end on a cliffhanger, there are still open storylines but thankfully it's a hopeful and happy ending!!
