The cliche in love stories is that the good girl falls for the bad boy who smells of leather and exhaust from his motorcycle, and at the end of the day love conquers all.

The stories make it seem so easy. Life, on the other hand, makes it hard. The awful truth is: sometimes love leaves you in ruins.
Elias Black may have had a sleeve of tattoos and grown up on the wrong side of the tracks, but he didn’t have a true bad bone in his body. I loved him from the moment he kissed me, when I knew I no longer owned my heart, until the world pulled us apart.

And then I wanted nothing more than to unlove him, and he wanted nothing more than to unlove me.

I was just a girl who fell in love with a boy who fell in love with me until. . .

Review

A poignant, beautifully written love story that I'll never, ever forget. The details, the prose, and Elias Black in particular moved me in a way few love stories ever have. Every page was a labor of love and I'm convinced romance readers everywhere will agree once they turn the last page. Bravo Stevie.-Kate Stewart-Best Selling Author of Drive

Light a candle to chase away the darkness. All Elias Black needs to let go of his bitterness and dark stains on his soul and his name, is a ray of sunshine- Sunny Ray Lower.  It's insta-connection when she sees him for the first time at 8 years of age. when God made him he wasn’t exactly sure what color eyes a boy named Elias Black should have, so he dipped his paintbrush in a few colors and swirled them all together. Had God asked me, I would have told him to make that boy’s eyes black like his name to match the storm cloud that seemed to live on his face.  A beautiful, very thought provoking story about tender love and Pinky promises that hold these two beautiful hearts together. The world pelts them with arrows of anger, hatred, prejudice towards them, but their souls are locked together like the Sun & Moon on their rings. The moon and the sun. The first star-crossed lovers doomed to an eternity of almost.  Love triumphs but at extreme cost !! It's not just a mere coming-of-age story about pubescent love which takes root in a tree house and ends up in a trailer park. No, it's more than that. It's a dialogue that needs to be started about unconditional love amongst Human beings of any gender, race or religion. Could be a pastor's daughter or sheriff's daughter. Could be a rich elite kid or one whos been bumping arpund from foster home to foster home. A girl with a heart of gold & water-colored-by-God eyes. boy .or just simply two boys who fell in love. “You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.” adults keep parroting this adage to kids but they fall short on walking their own talk sometimes.  4 friends, who face daily challenges growing up. High school bullies, mean girls, class divide, popularity contest, cool kids, outcasts and then there's parties where alcohol dulls their senses and major upheavals happen as a consequence. "My father had forbidden me from being with the person I loved and society had forbidden Brandon from loving the person he wanted to. Life didn’t seem fair. To be honest, the older I grew, the uglier life seemed." I loved the premise, though I'm not a fan of young HS romances, I couldn't put the book down. It's written seamlessly and effortlessly. The language was not unnecessary flowery but was fittingly teenage worthy simplistic. Their young lives had simple problems and easy solutions. There's loads of teenage drama and inconsequential dilemmas, about hooking up with hottest guy, one upping the meanest girl, making other jealous and eating greasy fries at a local shack or showing up at the happening parties by sneaking out at night. Out of all the characters Elias and Sunny are extremely lovable. They are a couple bound together by love but set apart by tragedies of fate “Have you ever wanted something you couldn’t have? Like really wanted it until it ate you up inside?”  In side characters, Brandon touched my heart the most. I cried for him a lot. Beautiful trapped soul just aching to live free. Good story, beautifully penned by Stevie

Oh the feels. Cards of Love: The Sun is one hit you where it counts read. My heart ached for this one. I love the Romeo/Juliet type love that happens. The love between Sunny and Elias starts out as young instant love. As all young love goes things tend to happen to pull Elias and Sunny apart. But you can tell by the struggles that the love never left. Sunny is the sweet sheriff daughter that you can't help but to love. Elias is doing everything he can to keep his brothers out of trouble and prove that he is nothing like his father. The love between Elias and Sunny is a special one that may have you grabbing for your tissues in the end. It is so worth the tears and the heart pulls. I'm simply in love with this book. Stevie J. Cole has this magical ability to bring the feels. If you haven't read a Stevie J Cole book then you are missing out. This is the sweeter side of her writing and honestly I can't tell you which way I love her more for. But you will not be disappointed any of her books. THIS ONE RIGHT HERE NEEDS TO BE ONE CLICKED.

I really enjoyed this sweet story.

I gave it 4 stars because while the story had all the angst and intensity only young love brings, the ending was rushed.

Not fair! Don't get us so invested in the characters only to NOT tell us how they did in college and whether Elias became a football star (he deserved it!) and NOT fill us in on Sunny's life.

And what about Daisy and Brandon?! They deserve their HEAs too!

The Sun is in my TOP reads of all time. Stevie wrote a story that will steal your heart. I asked myself how did I know I love this book, "because there are no words I could use to possible describe it." And without a doubt, I won't be able to describe why I love this book so much, at least not in a way that it'll do it justice. This coming of age story has everything you would want to see: angst, love, hope, dreams, sadness and everything in between. The reader will feel the rawness of her characters, this story, feels real and for me that leaves a mark. It's the kind of story you don't want to put down, but when you do, you'll feel it in your heart and soul. The story was bigger than its characters and when all combined, Stevie put together words that were just plain magical like poetry. I kept flipping page, after page, in awe. She's hands down one of the most underrated writers. This story crushed me in the best way possible. It had all the feels. If I could give it more than five stars I would.

I really enjoyed this book, it grabbed me from the beginning and made it hard for me to put down anytime I needed too. I couldn’t wait to come back to it and see what I missed.
However, I thought about giving it 4 stars and here is why
I wanted to know more about daisy and her situation.
I wanted to see how Brandon was because I really enjoyed his character.
And the ending to me felt rushed, I felt like it could have been better.
But with those being said, I enjoyed the book a lot, so those reasons still weren’t enough for me to give it less then 5 stars. I look forward to reading more by this author.
    And...
I think reading about Daisy from where we last heard about her would make a good book!

First of all, I thought these Cards of Love stories were all short stories. So imagine my surprise when I found out this was a full length novel! Jackpot!

This book is a story about those who found love at a young age. I love how it's so powerful that no matter the distance, time that passes, or people who try to doubt their love, it's just as strong as its always been.

You'll feel all sorts of emotions reading this one, but just know you may tear up towards the end. It's completely unexpected and cracked my heart a little. My heart!

This was my first story from this author, but I will definitely have to read more from her because this book was different than what I was expecting but incredible nonetheless.

Oh what a wonderful Romeo and Juliet type story Stevie has woven.

From the first time Sunny and Elias meet as children - they are drawn together....Sunny is the sun, while Elias is the moon.... and as they are in real lie - the sun and moon are rarely together - always passing each other, but inexplicably drawn towards each other.

Please beware that this is slow burn, and the story happens over many years. What a wonderful story of first love! It brought back all those times of liking a boy and the things that mean so much (the looks, the brief touches, the kisses.....)

Put this book on your must read shelf - then actually read it!

    ahhhhh the teenage angst!!

Elias and Sunny meet at a tender age. They create a bond that can never be broken and in their young innocence they thought they had forever.

They're ripped apart by fate and life. Promises are made but can the sun and the moon ever share the same space for more than a short while?

Fast forward 5 years and they meet again. Both of them still feel their connection but life has moved on for both of them. Coming into adulthood their emotions are all over the place but the one thing they both know is that they still love each other. But being young, drama and angst is a part of life. With outside interference can Elias and Sunny, who appear to be destined for each other, survive life's trials and keep the promise they made to each other all those years ago?

Awwwww sooo freaking sweet!! These two!! It's like Romeo and Juliet. From different sides of the track they shouldn't work but they just do like two halves of the same soul.

I loved this book. The beginning shows you them meeting. I loved the innocence of it and the hope they both have for the future. Of course life throws whatever it can at them and finally pulls them apart. They spend years clinging still to each other but eventually something gives and they lose contact.

As we get to present day you can feel the anger from both of them. Not just at each others actions but at life itself. All they want to do is be together but it's not that simple. I absolutely loved the angst of it all. It took me back to my own youth when everything was a drama and the end of the world and the author got this aspect of the story bang on.

Elias is so gorgeous. He may be from a rough beginning but he's deep down a good honest person. I loved how he looked after his brothers basically sacrificing his life for them. The only bit of happiness he has is seeing Sunny but he knows he's not good enough for her and resigns himself to watching from afar. He's sooo consumed by her you couldn't help but feel heartbroken for him.

I loved Sunny. She's a typical teenage girl and i found myself empathizing with her. The times when i was young and in love but even the smallest things would be in the way of true happiness lol to be honest though thank god that time of my life is over! She's had a good life and she see's Elias' good soul even though everyone else thinks he's no good she see's the light in him. I also loved her rebellion against being good.

The writing in this story will pull you in and have you reminiscing about your own teen years whilst cheering the main characters on to get their own happy ending. You will feel every bit of heartbreak they go through as if it was your own. The ending made all the tears appear and the letter Sunny gets from her father broke me while filling my heart up at the end of the story.

Loved all the supporting characters. Brandon being a particular favorite of mine, you'll see why!

Highly recommend this book especially if you're looking for a sweet, angsty, heartbreaking true love story. Beautifully written this book gives you all the feels and gives a little piece of your own past back to you. Ahhh the memories of teenage love!

“Tell me the story of how the sun loved the moon so much she died every night just so he could breathe" This broke my heart and I sobbed because my heart couldn't take it.

I felt every bit of emotions while reading this book. I love love this story.

The twins are funny and they always make me laugh. I'm a little gutted Brandon's story wasn't cleared. I would've like to know what happened, but it is what it is.

Go now and read you won't be disappointed xx

4.0 out of 5 stars Bittersweet and forbidden love that wins out in the end!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 25, 2019
This is a story of young love that begins in 1989 and ends in 2015 as the final chapter - and that is what made this book an enjoyable read for me because it was like going back in time. It's a story about Sunny and Elias who meet as young kids from opposite sides of the track. Elias loses his mum at a young age and his dad, who doesn't even enter the picture, is in prison. Sunny's parents are strict and very religious but only want to do good in the world, so they help less fortunate kids by providing a foster home and so enters Elias, and that's how Sunny and Elias meet and their bond develops.

Then Elias is taken away to live with his selfish aunt and his younger twin brothers, Judah and Atlas whom Elias is really fond of, and in the end he ends up taking care of them. Over the years Sunny's father becomes the town's sheriff and as the town's sheriff he hears things about people. But he only hears bad things about Elias and he forbids his daughter from having anything to do with him, but the heart can't help who it loves and this book is all about the power of love between Sunny and Elias. There's also little bit of angst thrown in, a teenage pregnancy and a little bit about what life is like being gay and how it was so taboo in those days, which I think Stevie J Cole captured so well from a teenage/young adult's perspective.

I do think that this book is aimed at the younger audience from the way it is written (with no detailed love scenes) but it is written so well that you can really see and feel how young love develops against all odds, which makes it such a good read for any age group.

However, what spoiled it for me was that there was no epilogue! As the final chapter ended in 2015, all we really got was that Sunny and Elias got their happy ending - that's it! I really would have liked a proper epilogue that tied up all of the loose ends. I really wanted to know how the twins Judah and Atlas turned out, what happened to Daisy, did she remain friends with Brandon, how Sunny's mum was coping and how Sunny's adopted little brother was doing. These characters were all part of the story throughout and it would have been a nice ending to know how they all turned out too.

That's why I have only rated this book 4 stars but I would still highly recommend and will definitely be reading more from Stevie J Cole.
