A YA Sci-fi Adventure

An assignment becomes a quest which reveals a secret…

CJ’s ancestry project gets off to a bad start—something’s wrong with his DNA test. Then he decides to search for his grandmother’s parentage, despite her claim that she is an orphan. How hard could it be? He’s joined by his cousin Penny and his buddy Oval as his search takes him to Las Vegas, where they run into nothing but dead ends until they meet a peculiar old man who seems to know something about CJ’s family. And who is following them?

In a separate storyline, in 1964 Gus, CJ’s grandfather, is on a mission for the mob when he becomes involved in a strange gun battle in the desert. A mysterious young woman comes running to him from out of the dark, yelling, “help me, help me.”

Years before, a military doctor is working in the base emergency room when several plane crash victims are brought in. He knows immediately that these are not normal patients, but he has no idea how his life will be changed forever.

When these storylines intersect, CJ will find himself in conflict with a 70-year-old secret, and he, his family. and his friends will be in mortal danger.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Jay Mackey grew up in Montana, and, after picking up a couple of degrees, he moved to Cincinnati. There he met and married the love of his life, and they’ve been very fortunate to have raised two brilliant children. Jay’s career has been mostly in advertising.

Jay is a voracious reader, and writes what he likes to read. That is, fast-paced, fun-to-read thrillers. Some have some sci-fi elements, while some do not.

Jay’s first, THE THIRD RESCUE, is about an ancestry search gone bad.

His second, RUNNER BOY, is about the immediate after-effects of an EMP, focused on one family. In both, Jay puts ordinary people in extraordinary situations, and the thrills, adventure and drama come from that. We also see how characters we care about deal with crises. Sometimes they do well. Sometimes they don’t.

His third, RIDER KID, is the second in the Runner Boy series. We see the survivors of the EMP and its after-effects struggle with new challenges.

For his fourth, Jay wrote a stand-alone, LIES, about an aging widower who gets involved in a real-estate deal which goes bad. Very bad.

Jay is currently at work on his next thriller.

Solid Story, nicely woven plot. While it is a Sci-fi it felt more like a mystery most of the time and the Sci-fi elements didn't take over the realism of the story. Really enjoyed the nuance. Would recommend to both Sci-fi and non-sci-fi fans alike!

A coworker recommended this to me. As an avid reader of suspense/mysteries/adventures I found myself not putting this done and finished it in just a few days. I loved that part of the story was based locally in Newport KY as I grew up in Newport :) Very well written and I look forward to Jay's next book!

Engaging. Once I started reading, I really needed to find out what happened next. Eclectic. Combined many historical, speculative and cultural references. Overall a very good read.

This was a fun book to read. The book fits into the new popular trend of everyone sending for a DNA kit to fine out their heritage, not knowing just what you might find out & where it could take you! The book keeps you in suspense as the plot thickens, was hard
    to put down!

The initial tale of the three teens and their genealogical search was interesting enough, but as the story grew it got more and more compelling. Don't want to spoil the suspense with details, but I couldn't put this book down once I hit the half way mark.

As an avid reader of Patterson, LeCarre, Ludlum found the storyline ingeniously woven, yet not too difficult to follow, just enough intrigue and plot twists. Can't wait for Jay"s next book!
