James Roe is famous.
For now.

About the author

Piper Sheldon writes Contemporary Romance and Paranormal Romance. Her books are a little funny, a lotta romantic, and with just a little twist of something more. She lives with her husband, daughter, and elderly dog at home in the desert Southwest. She finds writing bios in the third person an extreme sport of awkwardness.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2019Serious reading for me started with my mother and siblings trooping off to the local library to get books every two weeks, which was back in the sixties. Barbara Cartland was the go-to romance author back then, always with a kiss at the very end between the hero and heroine. Today I read contemporary romances. Quite a leap, I must say. But fun.
I’m glad I came across your name. I think it was a newsletter from Penny Reid, since “My Bare Lady” had Jethro Winston involved. I loved the Winston Brothers series. A lot. So I decided your story-line was interesting, thanks to “My Fair Lady” with Audrey Hepburn. When I read the synopsis for “The Unseen,” I knew I was hooked.
Whoa! How refreshing to read something so very different from the usual formats authors so often use now. I just finished it today and am thankful for your God given gift of prose.
So many words are going through my mind. Intense, honest, romantic, hurtful, scary, etc. It was all bearable to read because you weaved it all together beautifully. I could not put it down. I love Maggie and Roe. The invisibility was a stroke of genius.
When I got to the end of the story and saw your acknowledgments, I understood why you’re such an excellent writer. Your way of thanking the people who helped you along this journey was heartfelt and sincere. I immediately thought what a good person you are to say those meaningful words. Not just scattered words thrown together because it’s what authors are expected to do.
Good job! I look forward to reading more of your books.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2020I don’t want to create a spoiler but this did have an unusual story line with a leading lady having a gift of sorts. Although not really paranormal as such, it does have a situation that is never explained that could be termed paranormal.
Confused? Don’t be. It’s a romance, it has a nasty bad guy and it has a lovely hero who falls for someone who has an interesting talent, and it touches on a surprisingly important subject, and it is also very enjoyable reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2020I don't even know where to begin... I LOVED THIS! I loved this story and these characters so much, I both couldn't stop reading it and never wanted it to end. I have been OBSESSED with this book and these people and now I feel the painful void of having finished a great book and still wanting to know what's going to happen next.
I want to thank the author for writing about such an important issue. Our own President is a Zebulund and we need the Maggie's of the world to be as strong and courageous as she was because I have to believe in my soul that good will conquer evil in the end.
Bravo! 👏👏
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2019This was a very well constructed story with issues extremely pertinent to our times. The issues were dealt with intelligently, compassionately and realistically. The heroine was smart & strong and even she acknowledged her one "too stupid to live" moment as such. So it wasn't so bad. The hero was caring, supportive and strong and was very likable. The pair worked well together and were able to tease each other good-naturedly from very early in the story rather than falling into the mean-spirited squabbling so many authors seem to rely on to create tension between a couple. Their relationship was enjoyable to watch develop.
The suspense was also very well crafted. A few times I felt my heart speed up at the action taking place in the story and I had to remind myself that it was not real and I didn't have to be upset if something bad/sad happened. Getting me to be so heavily invested in characters in a story is a sign of true talent in an author.
I would have welcomed more explanation of the origin of the heroine's power, but I understand that this is the first in a series and I'm sure more details will be forthcoming in those stories - which I will definitely read.
Ms. Sheldon has written a cohesive, engaging romance/suspense novel that I very much enjoyed and highly recommend. Well done!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2019I enjoyed this book so much. It's a unique mixture of ultra swoony contemporary romance mixed with an old school Hollywood vibe. Maggie May is a heroine you want to hug and James Roe is a hero you want to make out with ;-) Perfectly drawn, sympathetic, and heartfelt characters make this story shine and kept this reader turning pages. The touch of paranormal was intriguing and gave this book something extra to enjoy. I can't wait for book 2. Piper Sheldon has become a one-click author for this reader.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2019In one word, this book was unique. It very hard to classify how this book should be labeled, it has romance, suspense, mystery, and supernatural. It was so well done, combining all these elements. Standout first book for a new author!
My mind is still comprehending the logistics and technicalities of how she was/can become invisible, so I might need to do a re-read and make sure I didn’t miss anything.
I’m very excited to read the next book in this series, and any other books she writes.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2019Maggie can turn invisible! And she uses her super power to seek justice for others and herself.
James is a successful leading man who is trying to pay back his hometown by helping the populace with jobs.
Maggie is seen by James while she is trying to hunt down info on a bad producer and that’s never happened before.
James sees Maggie while no one else can.
I enjoyed this first story in the Smarty Pants line up. Maggie is a strong woman who needs the love and support of a strong man. I really liked how James respected Maggie and no matter how much he really wanted to make love to her, he waited until she gave him her permission. You don’t see that that often in romance novels. James is a gentleman, like my husband! He respects Maggie, he cares about her feelings, he supports her decisions, good and bad, and he really wants her to succeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for the times
Written in 2019 this book is certainly of its time, with a #metoo theme throughout. It has everything. Hollywood glamour, investigative journalism, casting couch abuse, romance, paranormal activity.
There is an underlying humour in the writing but it deals with harsh subjects and portrays them sympathetically.
Apparently this was a debut novel? If that is correct then, wow it's good.
