Purchase options and add-ons
If you are looking for solutions to help you cook balanced meals, while spending very little time with meal planning, this is the book for you.
Organized to provide 52 different menus, this book follows a yearly calendar and gives a menu idea for each week of the year. Every menu has its own theme and is made specifically for the week it falls on. This way, the month of January can provide a winter menu and a slow cooker menu, summer has a picnic and a tropical menu, while autumn will showcase a Thanksgiving and a Halloween menu. All the popular cuisines of the world are featured with a menu as well - from Italian, to Greek, to French, to Korean, Indian, Lebanese and you’ll even get to learn about Maori and Canadian Indigenous cooking. You’ll fall in love with cooking all over again!
Each menu contains 6 recipes. With very few exceptions, 4 of these recipes follow the different protein choices: meats, poultry, fish and vegetarian protein, in order to give you nutritious options for your weekly menu. Out of the other two recipes one is usually a soup or a salad that goes well with the main meal and adds extra vegetables to your daily intake. The final recipe is a treat. All recipes have been chosen because of their nutritious ingredients. For some of them, substitutions were made to help make the foods more balanced. Others were kept unchanged or relatively unchanged, out of respect for the culture that developed them. All recipes are designed to be enjoyed by most people, from those who are not accustomed to spicy foods to those who cannot eat without it.
All 316 main recipes come with a picture, in order to ease your decision about what to cook each week.
This book is written by a Registered Dietitian working with hospitalized patients and includes general tips for healthy eating, explaining the why and the how of fueling your body the right way. It is meant to give you peace of mind, knowing that only the most nutritious recipes were chosen, while taking out the idea of good and bad foods and getting you closer to having a healthier relationship with food and eating.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2021Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis cook book from start to finish is very to the point and everything is laid out very simple. There are TONS of recipes from all over the world and even seasonal recipes. So if your looking for something to enhance your culinary skills deff check this cook book out.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2022Format: PaperbackNeed some inspiration for meal ideas? Well, look no further because Roxana has written the book for you. This cookbook features lots of different menu plans and recipes (such as international and holiday-themed recipes) that are perfect for any time of the year. Additionally, as a fellow Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I loved seeing some recipes that focused on different diets. Her book also has a lot of historical facts along with some gorgeous pictures!
All her recipes were easy to make and many of them were versatile; I could easily swap with ingredients that I had on handy, and it would not drastically change the recipe.
Quinoa Enchilada: I love slow cooker recipes; they are usually so easy to make! This recipe is no exception; the prep time only took around 10 minutes. It is all full of nutrients and it ended up working well in a casserole! Next time, I will add more spices and maybe try it as a filler for taquitos.
Vegetarian Kiwi Burgers: This has been one of my favorite recipes in her cookbook so far; there are so many different textures and flavors in the burger! I have never had anything like this before, but it was creamy, fresh, and tangy and each bite was different from the next. This recipe is a keeper, and I will definitely be making it again soon!
Orange Tofu Stir Fry: Nothing beats stir fry; it is so easy to make, and it can be perfect for meal prep. This recipe is very filling and fresh! Although I made some changes to the sauce (made more of it and added garlic and fresh ginger), it was tasty and worked perfectly with the tofu and vegetables. I can’t wait to try this recipe again with other ingredients!
Taco Salad: My family and I had this for New Year’s Eve, and it was the perfect dish to end 2021! Although I added a bit of water to the dressing to thin it out, everything was absolutely delicious. All the ingredients worked well together, and the salad was very fresh. This is great by itself, however, next time, I may try it in a burrito bowl or wrap it in a tortilla.
Although I was given an online of the cookbook in exchange for an honest review, I would easily make a lot of these recipes again. Roxana’s cookbook is very creative and her tone throughout the book is so welcoming and kind. I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2022Format: PaperbackI can't follow a recipe unless I see a photo of the meal to inspire me first, and this book delivers on that! As it goes through the year, each shorter collection is centered around a mood or theme so don't only get the ingredients and instructions for preparing them but you can also search by how you want to feel when cooking and eating! Also, it is uniquely and distinctly Romanian inspired so if you've traveled there or are from a Romanian family, you will appreciate the recipe collection even more!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2021Format: PaperbackAfter reading through this cookbook, I am thoroughly impressed. At first I found the organization of the book very different from what I am used to, maybe a bit confused, but after reading through the book more closely it makes so much sense! The book organizes recipes by time of year - appropriate recipes for holiday seasons and weather appropriate foods, but also gives an amazing introduction to cultural foods from all over the world, while still maintaining an accessible ingredients list and simple to follow instructions. In one word, I would call this book unique, simply put. Many recipes I have never heard of or would have thought to make, which I appreciate. These recipes are also truly weekday appropriate - simple, quick, nothing over complicated despite most of them being new to me. I think the main takeaway I'll get from this book after trying out some of the recipes is expanding my repertoire of quick and easy "no effort" type of meals to include a wider range of flavors and better inspiration.
The only thing I can think of to make this book even better would be a grocery list at the beginning of each chapter!
All in all, I'd recommend this book for sure. Great for the everyday home chef who is bored of their same old weekly meal rotation and wants some interesting healthy meals to whip up quick.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2022Format: PaperbackAs someone who’s not able to travel the world right now, its truly awesome to have a little taste of what some countries have to offer, especially in the comfort of my own home! the book is very aesthetically pleasing- it draws you in with the font placement, the structure of ingredients and instructions, the photos, and uniqueness of the recipes of course. I’ve only tried two so far and they were delicious! there’s something here for every day and lots more I can try!! With so much variety, I don’t have to wonder what to make every day or struggle to scramble at the last minute to cook for my family.. Bonus is there is a description in the beginning about fats, proteins, carbs, etc. which is really great to have that education and knowledge for myself and for everyone in the house too!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2022Format: PaperbackThis is a wonderful cookbook if you want to experience different cuisines, diets, and have something new to make every day for a whole year. I really do love the simplicity of how the recipe ingredients and steps are written. I can see what I need in relation to when I will use it. Makes it easier than looking through a standard recipe and trying to see when and where you will use a different ingredient, especially if it is something you don't ordinarily use. I love trying new things, and this book beautifully puts it all together. I have yet to do it, but the Forest Mushroom Soup and Chicken Hangi are recipes I plan on making soon.
Conclusion: if you like to try different things and eat different cuisines, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is book is absolutely AMAZING!!
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis is truly an amazing book! As the title states “ The Wholly Book of Menus”, this book is really a “wholly” one in its category. You can see from the 1st page to the last (the total is 500 pages), how much soul, time, and energy we invested into this book! More than this, the author is a certified nutritionist, which makes the book even more attractive in my opinion.
This incredible complex book contains menus from all around the world. Just to name a few countries: New Zealand, Africa, Iran, Japan, Dominican Republic, Romania, and Portugal. The menus are not only categorized by geographical region, but also for example by the type of diet, celebration, or preponderance of the foods eaten: ketogenic diet, vegetarian, gluten-free, Easter, Thanksgiving, or New Year’s Eve, etc.
You will find in total 52 menus (each including 6 recipes). The 1st menu in the book corresponds to the first week of the year and the last one is associated with the last week of December, so the book spreads on the timespan of a year.
If you want to pick up a recipe and try it you you can look for it in the associated week of the year that you are in, or just pick one randomly. Most of the time the recipes include ingredients that correspond to that particular time of the year. For example, week 15 is Korea and week 17 is Indonesia because they celebrate their national days on those dates and also because it’s still warm outside, so the recipes use the specific ingredients of that particular season and celebration.
To say I recommend this book is an understatement. Not only that I recommend it, but I am super grateful and happy that I came across it! I highly respect the huge work that the author has invested in this book and if she reads this review I say a BIG thank you for all that you shared with us. And by the way, did I mention that my new favorite recipe has become Bobotie with Yellow Rise (check page 71 in the book)!

5.0 out of 5 stars The world in your kitchen
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAs fan of world cuisine, I absolutely love the variety of the recipes and how well thought through the themed recipes are, the timing is perfect according to important occasions in the year.
But what really sets this book apart for me is the style in which the recipes are laid out, so much easier to follow than your regular recipe book. As the writer is a registered dietitian, you will encounter many tips for healthy eating along the way, as well as reinterpreted classic recipes, made in a more balanced way.
I had a blast making my first recipes and look forward to cooking my way throughout the rest of the book in the following year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear easy to follow, no meal planning or questioning.
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis is an AMAZING cookbook.
Menus for each week of the year saves the hassle of having to menu plan and repeating dinners. You can eat something new almost each night of the year! I also love that I can explore new cuisines that I may not have done before. The standardized recipes make it easy to follow, and the font is large and clear. Love the feel of the pages, Allows me to write notes or comments on the recipes we love or are a hit. Can’t wait to try some more and find new favourites!!
