The Wrong Game: A Sports Romance Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 9,108 ratings

An angsty, enemies-to-lovers, #BestofBookTok sports romance from USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling author Kandi Steiner.

Two season tickets. One genius idea. Zero interest in a relationship.

Gemma Mancini’s plan is simple. Step one: find hot, preferably funny, and definitely single men. Step two: take a new guy to each home game for the rest of the football season. It’s time for her to get back in the dating game, and besides, she can’t think of a better way to use the season tickets she bought for her ex-husband.

It’s a foolproof plan, until her bartender offers to be her practice round.

Zach Bowen is infuriating. Presumptuous, overbearing and absolutely, undeniably gorgeous.

He’s determined to be Gemma's only date this season and is ready to do whatever it takes, even if that means sabotaging any of her potential matches.

But Gemma isn't ready for anything serious, no matter how charming she finds his antics. After all, Zach can try his best to change the rules, but he can’t win if he’s playing the wrong game.

Kandi Steiner is a USA Today and #1 Amazon Bestselling Author living in Tennessee. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. Her love for writing started at the ripe age of 10, and in 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.”

She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a hopeless romantic and found herself bursting at the seams with love stories she was eager to tell.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, planning her next adventure, or pole dancing (yes, you read that right). She enjoys live music, traveling, hiking, yoga, spending quality time with her family (fur babies included) and soaking up the sweetness of life.

LOVE THIS BOOK!

LOVE THIS BOOK!
I am not sure if I have been living under a rock or what because why am I now reading Kandi Steiner books? How could I have not known about her before? Omg I have been missing out big time! This was an awesome book! Gemma has been through so much and has had to deal with it mostly on her own. Because of what she went through with her ex she is determined not to fall again and to just have fun. She has season tickets to her favorite football teams games. And drags her bestie to the game. But her bestie has something else in mind for her. Since said bestie does not like going to football games so what better way to get Gemma dating again and get out of watching football? That's right set her up on a dating app so she can take her date to the football games. Enter in the nosey bartender Zach, who is listening to the women's conversation. He inserts himself into their conversation and ends up being Gemma's first trial date. Gemma and Zach hit it off immediately, but that’s all that Gemma is willing to risk so she looks for other dates for the other games. But Zach doesn't give up so easily. And he's definitely no ready to give up on Gemma. He wants her and is determined to see where things go. Gemma really likes Zach too but this is what scares her, she's been there and done that. Zach finally breaks through her walls and gets her to take a chance with him. This book was awesome! I enjoyed both characters and I love Gemma's bestie Belle (can't wait to read her story) Even though my TBR list was piling up and I had plans of reading something else, I put that all on pause and read this. And let me say I was not disappointed! I also loved that Gemma was a girly girl but she also really enjoyed football. And Zach also really enjoyed it. They had so much in common and the chemistry was off the charts. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one about Belle!

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it! I love her writing style and will definitely be reading more books by her in the future. I already have several lined up on my Kindle! I saw people talking about this book all over different social media sites. The blurb and the cover caught my attention so I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did!

This was a really fun but also emotional story at the same time. I could really relate to Gemma in a lot of ways. I am a person that needs to have control and when I don't have it, I can feel myself starting to freak out. I struggle with anxiety a lot and have for most of my life. I have also been hurt by being cheated on. That is a pain that you never really recover from completely - or at least I haven't. Being cheated on causes major insecurity issues that you are left to deal with. My heart broke for Gemma and I was rooting for her to break her walls down to allow herself to fall in love again.

I absolutely loved Zach. He was such an amazing and patient man. I've said before with other books that the main characters were made for each other, but this couldn't be more true for Zach and Gemma. He is the perfect man for her. He accepted her as she was - anxiety, OCD, and past hurts included. I enjoyed seeing Zach interact with his family and seeing the close bond that they all had with each other. One of the things that I loved most about Zach is that he wasn't afraid to talk about his feelings or be "emotional".

As much as I love Zach and Gemma, I can't write this review without talking about Belle. That girl is just amazing and I loved her to death. I wish I could have just grabbed her out of the book and kept her for myself to be my best friend. She is the most supportive person to Gemma and isn't afraid to call Gemma out on what she's saying as well as what she's not saying. Belle is so funny and feisty as well. I enjoyed getting to know her throughout the book.

This book kept me interested from the very beginning and took me on an emotional roller coaster. I laughed, I cried, and I swooned. I can't wait to pick up another book by this author!

Okay, I deduct 1 ⭐ because Gemma was so dang frustrating. GURL. We get it, your ex suuuucks. But after repeatedly showing he's not like that at all, you still don't treat Zach like he deserves. At one point, I was like, I'll take him if you won't! But I digress. Beyond the ex issues, I still liked the book. It was sweet, enjoyed the side characters, had good banter, good spice, and a book boyfriend HOF worthy MMC. Loved and adored Zach all day. Just spent way too much time waiting for the FMC to get it together!

Wow!! This book was freaking am amazing! Kandi Steiner has written another phenomenal book!! I never wanted it to end. It was fun, sassy, emotional with just the right amount of angst.

Zach and Gemma are the best blend of personalities to make the perfect couple. Zach is sweet, strong and oh so romantic. What’s even better is that he’s proud and doesn’t try to hide it. Poor Gemma has been hurt so bad in the past, that you can’t fault her for wanting to guard her heart.

Guys, this book will draw you in from the very first page! The prologue was nothing like I though it would be. It was so powerful and infuriating while being sad and addictive. My feelings toward Gemma were all over the place, because well, hers were too. I went from loving her to pieces, to wanting to knock some sense in to her! One thing that never faded was my love for Zach. I want him for my own!

There is so much to love. Zach’s family was amazing, Gemma’s BFF Belle, was such a kick ass friend! I even loved Janet and Roy so much!!

The Wrong Game has catapulted to one of my favorite books this year. I’m already itching for a re-read. Football and romance really do go hand in hand and make for the best stories. The cover is gorgeous!

I thought no book Kandi has written could outdo her What He Doesn’t Know Duet, but The Wrong Game just might be the best book she’s written and my favorite of hers. I love, love LOVE this book!! I was definitely sad when I finished because I didn’t want to let these characters go! Fingers crossed we get more of them in the future!!

This was overall still a great read. I don’t necessarily think Kandi’s best but enjoyed the plot and premise taking a new guy to each game with the season tickets; I love the age of the characters, felt a little more mature and the back story and development of the characters felt more real. Still seemed a little bit slow in overall development of the story.

This book had some heavy themes (in the characters' pasts), but for the most part, we dont get bogged down in it.
Gemma's past relationship deeply scarred her, so she no longer believes in love and chooses to be alone. Her friend convinces her to at least "hang out" with some guys to possibly have a few one-night stands. Since Gemma has season tickets to the Bears, she uses that as her selling point. I loved the concept of bringing a new date to each football game.
However, we dont get MUCH of that before, enter Zach, the charming bartender and fellow Bears fan, who volunteers as tribute to be her first "practice date."
And what a date he is! I adored Zach. He has his own baggage, but he's worked through things and is pretty emotionally healthy.
I know it's part of a book to have some drama, but i had problems with the number of times Gemma decides to call it quits on the whole thing because she's feeling overwhelmed by things being good with Zach. I get that she has things to work through, but 3 strikes might have convinced me (as Zach) to let it go. I wish she'd go to counseling like her bff suggested.
Gemma's bestie, Belle, is a great friend, and I look forward to reading her book.

This is up there as one of my favourite sports romance stories I have read yet. This book had everything from laugh out loud moments, moments you swooned to moments you cried. Zach was a truly rare and beautiful male lead who is up there as one of my favourite ever ones, his relationship with his family and Doc, his belief in true love, his live of all things romance and dealing with while showing all of his emotions were refreshing an a joy to read from start to finish. Gemma made your ache and for you to route for her to find away past all her pain buy all the while she makes you laugh and smile, her relationship with Belle was utterly fantastic and her passion for sports was amazing an as girl who is like that so relatable. This book just had everything and is an absolute must read.
