--- Taken. Prized. Possessed. Loved. ---

Clover is an orphan and has led a tough and chaotic life. No stability. No money. No friends. He trusts no one. His already miserable life takes a nosedive when he ends up in the hands of a human trafficking gang.

Someone has placed a request for a young albino man, and Clover is to become the property of a mysterious buyer who will stop at nothing to satisfy their depraved desire. Clover’s fate seems sealed until four bounty hunters appear to take out his captors and accidentally save him.

The four mercenaries want to move on, but when Clover pleads for protection, they offer it to him at a price. In the beginning, the arrangement is all kinds of shady, but as he gets to know the four men who’ve taken him on a wild ride, his developing feelings might become as dangerous as the elusive buyer. But can a relationship with four such different men even work? Men who kill for a living? Men so full of contradictions?

Tank. The massive ex-soldier eager to be Clover’s Daddy.
Pyro. Wild, tattooed, with a filthy mouth and an itch for violence.
Boar. Ginger, bearded, a big teddy bear who can turn into a grizzly.
Drake. Dark and dangerous, with a tongue as sharp as his knives.

Can these men provide him with the love and security he craves? Or has Clover made the worst mistake of his life?

K.A. Merikan is a duo of queer writers who don’t believe in following the well-trodden path. In their books you can dip your toe into dangerous romance with mafiosi, outlaw bikers and bad boys, all from the safety of your sofa. They love the weird and wonderful, stepping out of the box, and bending stereotypes both in life and in fiction. Their stories don’t shy away from exploring the darker side of M/M romance, and feature a variety of anti-heroes, rebels, misfits, and underdogs who go against the grain.

Be prepared for shocking twists, dark humor, raw emotions, and sizzling hot scenes.

K.A. Merikan also writes steamy M/M romcoms as Devon Doe.

This was one of my favorite books of the year. I not only bought and read it on my Kindle, but also got the Audiobook version and listened to it a few months later after I first read it. As much as I love this book, it’s definitely not for everyone – there’s a poly relationship with D/s, kinks, and other BDSM elements. There’s human trafficking and all the horrors that come with that. The characters, although sexy and hot, are not good men. They’re not evil, but they have their own moral code which does not line up with most laws.

Like most K.A. Merikan books, there was a ton of hot, gritty sex scenes, and all of them felt unique (and steamy). Despite all the sex (the amazing, wonderful sex) there was a lot of plot and emotional character growth. The plot was spectacular and action-packed, and so well-written and well-done that I was thoroughly entertained. The emotional growth between the characters was beautiful. I loved how all the characters had to work to make the poly relationship work and there was no simple answer to making it work. All the characters had to put in work and build trust with each other. The emotional growth only made the sex scenes all that much hotter, as well. Plot, character development, and sex scenes all complimented each other very well.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars. The writing is gorgeous and exactly the quality and standard I have come to love and expect from the K.A. Merikan writing team.

The Audiobook was great. Wyatt Baker is a new narrator for me, but I enjoyed his narration and will definitely be listing to more books narrated by him.

This book is presented as 'dark' and while there are elements like that to the story, they are balanced with moments that push the narrative into the territory of angst.

One strong example of this is when the character Boar has an odd freak out at Clover that causes issues (I'm being vague to keep spoilers to a minimum). We can infer why Clover would have the stated problems, but we are given little to no background on the mercenaries up to that point except in rushed blurbs to state why a grown man would act so childishly. In fact, we're only in those moments told how old Boar is as an excuse for his behavior. It would make most reasonable-minded people strongly dislike that character and any other character that went along with the proceeding events. Clover is young and his panicked, defensive actions make consistent sense, but these professional mercenaries make stupid mistakes and take the consequences of their bad decisions out on him to the point that it is just baffling.

There is one character that is truest to dark theme (and who stars in a blush-worthy threesome toward the end of the book), but his very presence is a face-palming, elusive tease throughout almost the entire book. Similar intense elements of the story were glossed over like they were in a speed dating run. It makes the whole 'dark' theme appear to be the framing device for a romantic tale of angst.

    My opinion on the genre:
Dark isn't pure horror, but it's not angst either. It is a sharp knife in the shadows. Tease the reader with it, and cut them when they drop their guard. Commit to the story to the hilt, and let the details bleed onto the pages.

All that said, I love reading books from this author. The intimate scenes here were crazy intense and I am looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Nothing about this book should be okay....objectified albino twink, mercenaries, big ole sex-fest, exhibition, hurt, pain....I mean it should be incomprehensible to enjoy....but holy heck did I enjoy it. It was hot, endearing, interesting, sweet, and all kinds of wrong....and I can't wait for the next book. Recommended but only for those that go into it open minded and not dig too deep. It's KA Merikan at their quirkiest and naughtiest.

Good book, I enjoyed the story and premise. Some of the sex scenes went a bit long, pages and pages long. I skipped through some of them to get back to the story. I like a bit of sex with my characters, but this was a bit much. I am also not really into the "daddy" sex thing. I liked the characters and relationship development. It was more natural, not Insta love. Each character is unique, has their own back story and at times dark past. I am interested in how this team and Clover continue to develop. Will read the next book.

This book belongs in the Smutsonian museum of book Shmorno😁
I won't lie, I downloaded it out of pure curiosity on how the logistics would work in a MM harem setup - one sexy AF dude and his four boyfriends. I SAID FOUR BOYFRIENDS.
I should have known that if anyone could pull this poly-rabbit out of a hat, it would be K.A.MERIKAN 🤩
This is a fast-paced, extremely erotic thriller that I just couldn't put down!
The dynamic in each individual connection was completely different. Establishing emotional ties between all partners was beautifully portrait, tailored specifically to their respective personalities. It was perfection ❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars I think we can all agree that Clover is indeed one very lucky lad 🤤

Probably my fave read of the year so far, and to think I was going to skip it because of my aversion to polyamory?! Thank god my weakness for everything that is K.A. Merikan won in the end or I’d’ve missed out on a brilliant, beautiful read that is very much in the same vein as the authors’ rough and raw Sex & Mayhem and Guns n’ Boys series. It’s fast-paced, action-packed, emotionally-charged and with a nod to the dark side - although not excessively so - not to mention it contains some of THE most mouth-wateringly dirty, nasty sex I think I’ve ever read by these ladies, yet it somehow manages to retain a thoroughly sweet and touching edge amid all the first-class filth between its five very different yet equally loveable protagonists.

It’s hard enough trying to navigate coupledom I think, so adding more bodies to the mix is a potential minefield. And while I can appreciate the physical benefits of polyamory..lol, I usually struggle with the emotional side and quite often fail to feel any real love or connection between those involved. Sooooooo not the case here.

Mercenaries, Tank, Drake, Pyro and Boar have an unshakeable friendship (and even romantic relationship between the latter two) that’s been forged through years of tough times and hard-won trust before they ever set eyes on nineteen year old Clover, who they inadvertently save from a life of potential horror. But while our crew of bounty hunters share an intensely unique bond, they’re not exclusive or possessive, which is why the inclusion of Clover makes perfect sense. He’s not only wanted by these men, his presence is very much NEEDED - more than even they realise, I think - as he brings a lightness to their lives individually and collectively, as well as catering to their physical and emotional needs in ways they aren’t able to offer one another.

Clover’s rather dubious role of fk doll within the group (in exchange for physical protection against the maniac who ordered him by special request) slowly evolves into something much more deep and meaningful, and while the mercenaries are obviously smitten with his almost ethereal-like beauty and sexual prowess, Clover also proves he’s no milksop or parasite, by demanding his guys teach him how to defend himself so he doesn’t have to rely on them. Alas, he more than proves his worth in this unconventional but beautiful little family, and evidently becomes the centre of their world.

I admit that I had my doubts initially as to whether or not the mercenaries would each have a distinctive enough voice to be easily identifiable - which can be a problem when there’s this many MC’s - and also if they’d each feel integral to the narrative rather than one or two just being there to make up the numbers, so to speak. Again, the authors did a fantastic job of giving them very individual personalities in not only aesthetics and quirks, but also in their personal relationships with Clover.

While group leader, Tank, takes possibly the key role as Clover’s Daddy, teddy-bear Boar showers him with unbridled affection, while nympho Pyro can barely refrain from rogering the kid at every opportunity. And while I loved Clover’s relationship with each of the guys - and all of them together..phew - I was particularly taken with the evolution of his and Drake’s relationship which is classic enemies to lovers. The latter’s suffered greatly in his life and understandably has major trust issues, ergo he assumes the worst about Clover and initially refuses to partake in the **coughs** arrangement he and the other guys have. However, beneath the distrust and outward dislike of Clover he quietly stews in his own lust for the snowflake-hued beauty which definitely creates some drool-worthy ST - that eye-f’ing scene over the pool table?!! But after a few tears and a heart to heart the two finally resolve their differences which later culminates in a ridiculously hot threeway, that again, manages to be romantic and cathartic in healing some of Drake’s personal issues.

In short, this is a riveting read and typifies what these ladies do best; very morally ambiguous characters within a very unconventional and sometimes dubious set-up. And while all was consensual, there’s one scene that almost verged on dub-con, it was certainly pretty cringe-worthy and for a very brief moment even made me dislike our four anti-heroes - Pyro in particular - who perhaps went a bit too far with the *punishment*. That said..it was also kinda, sorta, absolutely hot af. I will say that if you’re easily offended, maybe skip this one, otherwise, enjoy the hell out of it.

    P.S. #Twink Wars....just sayin’ ..lol.

    Another work- another amazing story.

What should I write? I love this book. I love the story. I LOVE all characters.

I was quite shocked at first because honestly I never thought that a 5some relationship could be so good and work out so well XD. I've read books where the author struggled to portray a relationship between 2 characters and here I am writing a review about a a relationship that is so amazingly portrayed that I don't know what I should write.

    But i will try.

    1. The story is just fantastic. In my eyes it has a few hiccups but they are so insignificant that you easily forget about them.

    2. The characters don't feel robotic/imaginery- They feel real. All of them have their own emotion and their insecurities, they don't lose their characteristics.

    3. It is the 1st book of a series and it ended-as for me- with enough tied ends to leave out the other books- BUT it also made alot of openings for the 2 and 3 Book.

Kat and Agnes did a magnificent job- you should really read this book.
