THORNE THE COMPLETE SERIES: (Volumes 1-3) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 95 ratings

An innocent young woman. An older damaged man. One dark contract…

Now the angsty love story of dominant Thorne and his submissive Rose can be read in one, continuous volume. Sex with no strings attached. Obedience without questions. An arrangement of mutual benefit. No mess. No love. No expectations. Nothing beyond a signed contract...until HE meets…HER.

Desperately trying to grasp for the balance that once kept him grounded, Thorne yearns for the controlled way of life that satisfied him professionally, personally, and sexually long before the arrival of Rose. But she has changed him, and while he fights his urge to be with her, each time he sees her, his fight to stay away from the beauty becomes unbearable. With a confession about to rock the community and secret upon secret being uncovered to almost the very last page, it seems their future is doomed. Will he admit his love for Rose? Or are the thorns of his past too deeply rooted?

The Thorne Series is a sensually erotic and deeply emotional story with twists that will make you go back to read from the very first page over and over again.

Ever since I started having erotic fantasies most of them included some form of sexual corruption and unraveling. These are also some of my favorite pieces of writing but it is difficult to find a dark story that doesn’t involve non-consent, kidnapping and extreme conditioning/brainwashing. R.B. O’Brien definitely knows how to write a romantic story of a taboo relationship involving the corruption of innocence, domination, submission, kink and unexpected love. Her characters are usually damaged in one way or another, which is pretty typical for the dark romance subgenre, but they are also well-rounded, likable and easy to identify with.

She takes us on an unforgettable ride with an unexpected twist. The journey of William Thorne and Rose to one another and to themselves is like a long, dark road and any hint of a happy ending is beyond our line of sight... at least at the first novel where they sign their dark contract.

R.B. O'Brien brings the heat and romance in her suspenseful, emotional trilogy to new heights. Her characters go through a lot during this series and the author twists their fate and feelings like a well-trained sadist. The intense chemistry, the angst, the poetic sensuality and the burning love are back and they get even hotter.

The story has great pacing, interesting secondary characters, truly suspenseful atmosphere and some truly off the charts kinky sex. All I’m going to say is that you should prepare for some steamy episodes in which pain and pleasure turn in two parts of the same experience, so tightly woven in one another it is impossible to distinguish them. Thorne really knows how to manipulate a woman’s body and mind until she is begging and crying for more.

He is the very definition of someone whose life is ruled by the temptation of the woman he forbids himself from loving. Ironically that makes his love, lust, and need for Rose even greater. There is no denying of their obvious chemistry as these two can’t keep their hands from each other.

He was very skillful in the art of cruelty and tender torture. I must give credit to Rose for handling it all with as much grace as her position of a submissive in love allowed her. He surely met his match in her.

Each of the novels in that boxed set is even better than its predecessor. They get deeper and give us a better perspective of the characters, their past and flaws. The plot is thickening, the suspense is getting heavier with each encounter between William and Rose. His anguish and her quiet despair pull the heartstrings.

How does it all end for those two star-crossed lovers?

I'm afraid you'll have to read the book yourself to figure it out. It's worth it. Elegant writing, beautiful character development, some interesting twists in the sensual scenes, some characters' unexpected return and a big surprise by the end. Finish William and Rose's journey and find out what waits for them beyond the veil of darkness. You won't regret it. .

Thorne the complete series is a set of three darker romance books. Be warned that these books are steamy and filled with BDSM themes. This isn’t a typical love story, the main characters are emotionally damaged and keeping secrets from the world.

    Rose’s Dark Contact

Victoria Rose meets William Thorne at the coffee shop she is working at. Things take off from there. I found myself thinking William Thorne an incredible frustrating and unlikeable character. Except that the plot thickens and I suddenly wanted to read the next book to find out what happens.

    Rose’s Dark Secret

Rose is in love with William but something gets in the way and drives them apart. This is definitely a dark and frustrating love story. For me, William is still not a very likable man, clearly in denial and stubborn. I keep hoping he will just figure it all out.

    Rose’s Dark Awakening

William is left reeling from events and pushes Rose away for good it seems. This was not a surprise to me. Of course this is the last book, so I assumed that this will all work out somehow. Well, nothing is going to be easy for this couple ever it seems. I will say that the way this all ended was a bit unexpected, but it really a surprise.

Unbelievably this box set is my first time reading one of RB O’Brien’s books. RB’s attention to detail in her scene setting, in her characters, and in the storyline. Her characters are all complex and never exactly what they seem when you first meet them. Even the secondary characters are complex and faceted with many sides. Victoria/Rose is the heroine in this story. She seems so innocent and naïve when we are first introduced to her. And she is and she isn’t. Thorne, the hero of the series, seems so hard and dark. He says he’s a monster but is he really? I love the contrasts and the constant juxtaposition of light against dark and good against evil. I love pealing back the layer of her characters to get to the true essence of who they really are. Make no mistake this story has some wonderful steamy and salacious scenes. If you are into that, as I am!, you will love the way RB sets those scenes as well. I recommend this box set and it certainly won’t be the last I read of RB O’Brien’s books!

The back-and-forth with Thorne: "I want her, I don't want her", was annoying., to the point where he seemed beyond immature. He was pretty fine with cutting Rose loose, until another rival showed sincere interest in her, then he'd yank her back. He did this several times.

Was okay with Books One and Two; however, Book Three had me on edge. Thorne enjoying "playtime" with his new Personal Assistant, Katie, was unsettling and sad. When Rose accidentally walked in on them, and Thorne turned it into a "threesome" made me very queasy. His insistence over Rose's objection to the threesome that "she wants this", when she obviously was very unsure about the whole scene, shows him to be an insensitive bully, not giving a damn about the wishes of the woman he's "suppose" to be in love with. In reality, this was something HE wanted. His insistence that Katie will be apart of their lovemaking again and again demonstrates his wish is more important than Rose's being comfortable with the scene.

I had a difficult time liking Thorne. He seemed to be deaf to everyone. One can be an alpha-male without being an ass. If I were Rose, I would have picked 'the other guy'.

(B for proofreading!): dawned, not donned; many misplaced commas; a few sentences were missing words.

A brilliant trilogy show a Dom with a heart of gold but with a killer instinct for business and a young woman, a virgin, not sure if life, becomes his P.A. with conditions attached. Their story begins. An evoking story with love, lost, jealousy, selfless acts and ghosts from the past emerging. If your man does not know how to treat you or realise that he is in love with you, get him to read this. Good books

And kept my interest in the first two books. William was definitely messed up with guilt and when the truth came out not only did he stay messed up but managed to bring Rose into his sordid life. Once the introduction of ménage a trois was introduced I no longer expected a HEA and lost interest. Not romantic and not my cup of tea.
