Traveling through time has become a norm for the Holloway girls who can monitor the time jumps with their chronometers. However, a sudden unscheduled time jump transports Summer Holloway to 1692 Salem, just before the witch-hunting frenzy had started. In a parallel storyline, Sydney Monaco, a private detective, travels to present-day Salem. She intends to show the Celtic amulet she had discovered in a New England cave to an acclaimed historian. However, the amulet comes to life, transporting her to 1692. After Summer and Sydney cross paths, can they return unscathed from the rage of the Puritan fanatics? In Timeless Treasures, Casi McLean brings together characters from two of her series to create a charming tale.

I adore time travel stories, and this novel appealed to me with its thrilling plot. Casi McLean infused the narrative with a dash of paranormal from the beginning. The mysterious hotel at Salem, with its enigmatic owner and the ghost tours, created an otherworldly aura. The time jump put the characters in the middle of a battlefield, and I waited with bated breath to find out how they would circumvent this ordeal. McLean presented seventeenth-century Salem realistically, complete with the clothing habits and dialects of the period. The heroines' desperate attempts to speak in a dated language and the old-timers' reactions to modern-day outfits and gadgets provided some relief from the tension. With a plot filled with adventure, women's solidarity, and a slight hint of romance, Timeless Treasures captured my heart. I recommend it to those who have enjoyed Michael Crichton's Timeline or Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.

    Some months ago, I read a novel by author Casi McLean, ‘Virtually Timeless’, which was part of a series, each tome written by a different author, yet cross-pollinated by their respective characters. I really enjoyed that book, so it was like meeting an old friend to reencounter one of the protagonists, Sydney Monaco, in another of McLean’s series, ‘Timeless Treasures’, book 2 of her ‘Three Sisters Island Mysteries’. This series is an interesting take on time travel, and given the adventures befalling Sydney in ‘Virtually Timeless’, it was a natural, unforced encounter between the two series.

    As I have come to expect from this author, the tale envelopes the reader from the start, creating hooks that draw you in, seeking the answers to the unusual events painted in the reader’s mind by McLean’s words. McLean’s talent, not just for creating believable characters you root for, but for providing the backdrop for the story in a very credible fashion such that even readers unfamiliar with history, quickly accept the mental images the writer creates, which in turn adds an amazing amount of depth to, what were, real and almost inexplicable occurrences, specifically the famed Salem Witch Trials of 1692. And, what I thoroughly enjoyed, the fine brushstrokes the writer employed to establish and maintain the unsettling atmosphere in which she plunged the reader from early on in the narrative. Again, the author’s research and diligence lent solidity to the tale by exposing readers to details about the way people were dressed at the time, as well as the nuances of how they spoke. Without revealing any spoilers, these are just two of the areas that provide for plenty of action and conflict for the time travelers who find themselves transported unpreparedly from the present day.

    A thoroughly enjoyable suspense thriller which I recommend wholeheartedly.

    Summer is thrust to 1692 Salem during the Salem witch trials. Such a good book with lots of history, suspense and a little romance. I loved it. Casi McLean did a marvelous job describing everything and bringing you into the story. Summer and Sydney find themselves in the middle of Salem during the witch trials. An unexpected character ends up sliding to save them. Such a good book. I listened to the audio version of this book and like the first book, the narrator, Amanda Stribling was fantastic. I loved her voice and she was able to bring me into the story with ease. Can't wait for Book three.
