Times Like These: A Rock Star Romance (Blue is the Color Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 2,713 ratings

It all started with a concert I never wanted to attend…

Nick Fletcher is the kind of arrogant, beautiful, bad boy who draws me in like a moth to a flame. He’s also a world-famous rock star who should be untouchable to a struggling college student like me.

One impulsive decision from me, a vicious response from Nick, and we’re thrust into each other’s worlds, whether we like it or not. And he really doesn’t like it.

To him, I’m an intruder working on his summer tour. One with a sassy mouth I can’t keep shut, especially when he leans in hard to the whole sexy, grumpy rocker thing.

There’s something undeniable simmering between us, and it’s not hate. But beneath Nick’s arrogance is a broken man and my days of fixing men are behind me.

No matter what, I’m walking away when this tour is over.

Even if the heat we ignite burns hotter than the summer sun.

Review

"OMG! This story was amazing. It is definitely my favourite Julia Wolf book but I think It rates in my top 5 favorite books of all time." Tesh, Goodreads reviewer"On a scale of one to restraining order how inappropriate is it to propose to a stranger because you loved their book so much?" -Red Hatter Book Blog"Wow! Just... wow... This book, I LOVED these two, so perfect, like TEXTBOOK enemies to lovers right here, other authors should be taking notes." -Jolene, Goodreads reviewer
"This was SO GOOD. I loved the humour, the sass, the fantastic turbulence of the relationship between the protagonists, and the vividly portrayed group of characters that filled out this story so well." -Bella, Goodreads reviewer"Julia Wolf is a word master, spinner of tales and creator of dreams with yet another incredible story called Times Like These. I was pulled in and wrapped in the velvety grasp of every word that this book had to offer." -Beyond the Covers Blog"I've read everything this author has had to offer since the first Sublime series book, and I can honestly say that this book blew me away. Dalia and Nick are a little grittier, a little less sparkly, and yet SO much realer than any others characters she's written so far that I would give this book 6 or 7 stars if I could." -Jenn, Goodreads reviewer

Julia Wolf writes sexy rockers, grumpy billionaires, snarky heroines, and bad ass women. She’s a firm believer in happily ever afters, no matter how rocky the road is to get there.

She doesn’t believe in “guilty pleasures”, only pleasure. Reading about a plus size woman who gets absolutely railed by a hot rock star is pleasure. Reading about a damaged college student whose flaws are valued and loved by the grumpy guy next door is pleasure. Reading about love in a small town or big city or on a tour bus is pleasure. Reading romance is pleasure!

Julia lives in Maryland with her husband and three crazy, beautiful children. When she’s not writing romance, she’s reading it. Some of her favorite things are, in no particular order: goats, books, coffee, and Target.

Times Like These (Blue is the Color #1) by Julia Wolf is a contemporary enemies-to-lovers, forced-proximity, rock-star romance told in first person, dual POV. The story follows the relationship between twenty-five-year-old college student Dalia Brenner and thirty-three-year-old rock star Nick Fletcher, front man for the band Blue is the Color.

When Dalia accompanies her sister to a Blue is the Color concert, and two songs in, it gets canceled because the bass player passed out and fell off the stage, she goes on Twitter and puts them on blast with a video she took of his fall. When Nick sees the tweet, he strikes back by calling Dalia an incredibly nasty name. The tweets go viral, and the resulting media attention causes her to lose her job. To make it up to her, Nick’s manager offers Dalia a summer job, and she finds herself on tour with the band, much to Nick’s irritation.

What will happen when Nick and Dalia are forced to share the close quarters of a tour bus? Read the book to find out.

I loved Dalia and Nick’s story! I read it a month ago, when life was feeling like a reeking dumpster fire, and I needed a vacation. Times Like These was the perfect escape. It captured my interest from the start, and I couldn’t put it down. Dalia and Nick were both realistically flawed yet likable characters with witty banter and great chemistry. The story had an engaging mix of romance, humor, and a touch of angst. Several of Julia Wolf’s books have been sitting on my TBR for ages, and I’m so happy that I finally got around to reading one. It won’t be the last.

Five stunning wonderfully written so well deserved stars....
This is the 4th book I've read by Julia Wolf and she hasn't let me down. Each book is better than the last!

After a concert fail and a tweet gone wrong, Dalia and Nick are in deep deep hate.
Despite their physical attraction to each, they both think the other are jerks.
When Blue is the Color's tour manager offers Dalia a job as a "Jill of all trades" on the band's upcoming tour, she's thrilled for the job opportunity and the chance to travel the country. Nick is pissed.
The two are forced to interact in tight corners (a la tour bus) and slowly begin to discover that first impressions aren't always accurate.
Both character's arcs are beautiful, both grow and learn and the ultimate coming together between them is explosive.
To read about such uniquely developed characters in romance seems to be a rarity, but you will find it here. Dalia is a spitfire who won't back down and I adored her so much. She has her flaws, but they made her so much more likeable. And Nick, the grumpy good guy written to a T. So very well done. Even the side characters are amazing and the reader can't wait to see what's in store for each of them, hoping they'll get their own story.
Julia wolf has mastered the romance novel formula. Each book, and especially Times Like These, has the perfect amount of sexual tension, steam and earth shattering love. The books are not insta-love, she makes you work for the outcome and the pay off is so worth it. With a side of angst, though not enough to make you want to throw your book across the room, just enough to have you tearing up and wishing upon the stars that the two characters you've fallen irrevocably in love with will open their eyes and get their HEA. Don't worry, they will.
Don't be surprised when you set this book down with a deeply satisfying sigh when you get to The End.

How did I wait so long to read this one??? Something in some of the reviews had me putting this one off, and I so regret that. With this author, I should have known it would be great and I’d love and I definitely did. It’s my favorite kind of romance where we get to see the two really get to know each other and see their chemistry with each interaction, but it’s somewhat of a slow burn in that they have a lot of that time together before they really jump into things. This had some really sweet moments and I loved how we got to see Nick in his vulnerable moments. It’s really sweet, heartfelt romance.

I was in a nasty reading slump and knew I needed something less serious than the book I was trudging through. I love romance and Julia’s TikTok pitch of Times Like These grabbed me. I picked it up and was able to finish it in a couple of days so it did exactly what I needed it to.

The writing and storytelling overall were good. I found myself swooning over Nick a few times. At the end of the day though, a rockstar romance has a certain appeal to it because of the insinuation of a bad boy with lots of options but he chooses her. There was a lot of telling us Nick was a bad boy and a jerk but all he did was drink tea and mother hen everyone and then get grumpy because he doesn’t want to listen.
There are several mistakes when it comes to grammar, spelling, and continuity(particularly pertaining to the characters personalities early on and in later chapters) as well that made it harder, but not impossible, to stay in the story.

Overall if you’re looking for a fluff read, this one isn’t bad, and I wouldn’t tell you to run far away.

First Julia Wolf story that I read and I'm glad I picked it up! Now I am addicted to Blue is the Color and can't wait to start on the other books!

Nick and Dalia are perfect characters in an imperfect world. I love that Dalia's character never wavered in her "not liking" the band itself but loved the way Nick's voice comes out. Nick showing that you can be vulnerable, even if it was albeit late, and still have the respect of people around you. There are so many small things that make the book absolutely adorable, so easy to read and fall in love with.

Now to decide on whether I should go for David or Jasper first

Such a great story! Full of heartache that had me in tears, conflict that made me want to punch someone, moments so sweet your teeth hurt, and finally, the growth you have been cheering for and the sweetest ending ever. I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited so I have read a lot of romance novels. A lot. Stories that are awash with clichés and trite sentiment, which I hoover up quickly and forget about them even faster. Every so often I read one of these stories and it stands head and shoulders above the rest, and Times Like These is a really good example of decent, well written chick lit. The chick lit I love to find. So yeah, I recommend this book most heartedly and look forward to discover more Julia Wolf. I also love a good accompanying Spotify soundtrack too, so happy days.
