Torch: A Second Chance Romance Kindle Edition
I fight wildfires. It’s dirty, sweaty, and dangerous, but there’s nothing else like it. There’s no adrenaline boost like a hundred-foot wall of flame. There’s no victory better than saving a town.
Particularly when the town you save is your ex-girlfriend’s.
Clementine’s that ex. The one I haven’t seen in eight years. The one I thought I was going to marry.
We were over a long time ago, and there was a good reason why. There were a hundred good reasons, and I know every single one by heart.
Or at least, I thought I did. The more time I spend with Clementine, the harder they are to recall.
She’s still hotter than any fire I’ve ever fought. Still the same feisty, whip-smart, headstrong girl I fell for. When we’re together, it feels like eight years may as well have been eight minutes.
I already know how this story ends: we go down in flames. Crash and burn.
But I’ve never loved anyone like I loved Clementine. Not even close.
Maybe some fires are worth rekindling.
Torch is a high-heat standalone romance. It's for fans of firefighters, small towns, great banter, and anyone who loves a second chance. The hero is a former military fireman who's never forgotten his first love -- who happens to be a forest ranger in the town where he's sent to fight a wildfire. It's steamy as heck, has a dog named Trout (the dog doesn't die), and of course there's an HEA.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2016Title: Torch
Author: Roxie Noir
Designation: Full-Length Standalone Contemporary Second Chance Bad Boy Romance (350 pages), NO Cliffhanger, HEA
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Sinfully Sexy Stars*****
***Although the total page count indicates 350 pages, Torch ends at approximately the 50% location. In the edition I purchased, the author has generously included a second full-length contemporary bad boy romance with a western twist entitled Ride.
Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Roxie Noir knows she can write some smokin' hot romance and her latest release, Torch, is no exception. I loved it! There's something about a Roxie Noir book that just does it for me. It's always such an exciting, sensual, passionate and arousing experience. You know, the kind where you feel all the agonizing angst, fiery passion, and steamy sex but you still get the warm and fuzzy sweet romance along with a few unexpected surprises thrown in to keep you on your toes. It's the best feeling in the world... like drinking a cup of your favorite tea while wrapped in your most comfortable old ratty robe and curled under your favorite comforter. I know before I read the first line, it will be just perfect... and it was!
Torch is a fast-paced, well-crafted full-length standalone contemporary second chance romance filled to the brim with heart-pounding danger, heartbreaking drama, agonizing angst, laugh-out-loud humor, heartwarming romance, steamy passion and dreamy sex. The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly defined his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, humorous, and flows effortlessly. But without a doubt, my favorite component of this and all of Noir's stories is always the cast of captivating, engaging, and completely relatable characters. I was immediately drawn into the story by our two protagonists, saucy U.S. Forestry Service Ranger and temporary communications officer Clementine McKinnon, and cocky Canyon Country Hot Shots crew member and wildfire fighter Hunter Casden. I fell in love with two characters and their second chance love story. These two characters complemented each other perfectly. Even after eight years, their attraction was still undeniable, their interaction captivating, their history heartbreaking and their sexual chemistry was off the charts smokin' hot! Did I like this book? No, I loved it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some steamy, dreamy love scenes. Will I read this author again? Abso-freakin-lutely! Was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my seat, white-knuckling my ereader with the pages flying as quickly as the time. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! If you're looking for the perfect combination of heartwarming contemporary romance and light-hearted humor sprinkled throughout with a dash of danger, drama and angst, then Torch is most assuredly the book for you.
Forestry Ranger Clementine McKinnon had always hated public speaking so when she ends up as the U.S. Forestry Service communications officer for the Copper Creek Ranger Division of the Big Sky National Forest in Montana, it was strictly by default. In other words, she was drafted because there was no one else to fill the position which is how she found herself in her current predicament... in a room full of the local townsfolk at the Lodgepole Rotary Club supposedly enjoying the perfect portions of spaghetti prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary and sweating bullets while waiting to make a short speech and present a plaque to the the Canyon Country Hot Shot Crew for their efforts in saving the community from a raging wildfire. Lovely... NOT! The presentation was supposed to have been made by her boss but, unfortunately, she was called away at the last minute leaving Clementine to fill in. Clem thought she was prepared and could probably handle almost anything but the one thing Clem never, and I mean never, never, ever, expected, was to see a ghost from her past sitting among the sea of faces making up the audience... a face she thought she'd never see again...a face that belonged to her high school sweetheart, her first love and her first lover, the man who had broken her heart eight years earlier, Hunter Casden. He's also the man who had dumped her during a Skype call while thousands of miles away. Hunter had enlisted in the Marines right out of high school, then deployed to Afghanistan. Clem had never wanted him to join but it was almost a tradition in his family. And she's never forgotten or forgiven him. Apparently, he remembers the events a little differently, claiming she dumped him. What the heck? What's he doing here working as a wildfire fighter? She'd not heard a single word from him in eight long years. Regardless of who dumped whom, both had been hurt but were now in the same town, in the same building, in the same room, staring at each other while she was trying to deliver a speech and present a stupid plaque... and all the while, he's grinning like the cat who ate the canary, then licked all the cream! With him looking so darn handsome, it's almost possible for her to forget why she should still be angry. What's a girl to do? Swoon? Of course not, she's a professional for pete's sake. She can handle any emergency... except possibly this one. So what does she do? Rush to the restroom and choke on her drink... only to be rescued by said handsome heartbreaker firefighter when he breaks down the door to save her from choking. And then allow him to walk her home. Oh dear!
Hunter Casden can't believe his eyes. It's none other than Clementine McKinnon, the girl who dumped him and broke his heart eight years ago, now a forest ranger and right here presenting a plaque to his boss. And she's even more beautiful than he remembered. The sensible thing to do would be to walk away, but when was the last time he had ever been accused of being sensible. Never! If he were a sensible kind of guy, he certainly wouldn't be a firefighter with the Canyon Country Hot Shots Crew, risking his life by fighting wildfires six months out of the year. They were in town for a few days. What would it hurt just to say hello? It could hurt a lot when he couldn't bear to walk away. It could be that he never stopped loving her, but she had dumped him on a Skype call while deployed to Afghanistan serving in the Marines. Hadn't she? Memory is a funny thing. Sometimes they get a little jumbled... especially when young love is involved. The smart thing would be to walk away but no one had ever accused him of being smart, either. After all, the night is young and so is he... well, kinda. But she's beautiful, and he's smarter and a whole lot more experienced than he was at eighteen. What could go wrong? We'll see!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2016Clementine and Hunter were lovers in high school eight years ago. They each blamed each other for their breakup though there was a great miscommunication. With the breakup, he joins the Marines for two four year tours of duty. She's a communication ranger and he a firefighter now with the forestry service. They meet at a dinner given to the firefighters as thanks for saving their town. Both are very bitter and still blame each other for the breakup. Story seemed to flow while the characters were sometimes not relatable.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2021I finished TORCH with a sense of loss. But, in that “this book, those characters, will stay with me for a while and I don’t want them to go” sort of way.
Honestly, I’d become so invested in Clem and Hunter in the hours it took to devour their story, finding myself sobbing at 12AM on a weeknight while my husband quietly slept next to me, that I immediately downloaded the offered bonus scenes. I just HAD to make sure their HEA lasted this time.
I married my (now retired) Marine when I was 18, and a lot of Hunter and Clementine’s behaviors are so familiar to me. The crushing insecurity, the sense that they’re happier to be away, the fights because neither wants to really be vulnerable. When my husband deployed to Iraq in 2006, we went through something very similar, only we had been married long enough at that point that we quickly realized what we were doing and fixed it. Still, I remember, and the recollection during those scenes had me bawling.
Clem and Hunter didn’t get that chance until 8 years later and almost squandered it. Ms. Noir, though, doesn’t seem to be in the heart crushing business, thankfully, and gave our characters enough time apart for them to mature and grow so they could right the ship before it steered too far off course.
And, of course, the sex scenes? Damn. Just . . . damn. So. Good. So steamy. So fun and so playful and they portrayed a level of intimacy one would expect from two people who truly grew with each other through trust and exploration early on.
But it’s the love between Clem and Hunter, the way their anxieties and wants resonate so clearly, so realistically, that really blew me away.
I’ve read over 120 books since COVID-19 quarantine started in March 2020, and this one? This one definitely sits firmly in my top five favorites of them all.
Thank you, Ms. Noir, for capturing so beautifully what I have felt personally. Thank you for Hunter and Clem.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2020This was a good read. I liked the plot and H/h. It just felt like something was missing. Will definitely read more by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2016I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was delighted with both included stories! Hunter and Clementine's story in Torched was a nice story of second chance love and the issues broken and insecurities can play with you. The fact that Hunter is a hot firefighter, that helps too! Working through demons from their past made their HEA so much sweeter.
In Ride, Jackson and Mae burn the reader up with their passion. Right after high school Mae made a choice to shed her good girl persona and met Jackson while drunk. Several years later fate brings them together again, Jackson the hottest face in bull riding and Mae as the upcoming photographer hired to document his wins. The catch? She will lose her dream job if she's caught having an affair with a subject..but Jackson isn't going to make things easy.
I enjoyed Torch, the relationship and struggles each character had to overcome for the HEA made sense..the confusion Clementine had about Hunter's motivation on career choices, previous and current, not to mention the jealousy and anger they work on. There was a few times I found myself chuckling, the mountain lion comes to mind, but I really found myself rooting for these characters!

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting read
This second chance romance, with Clementine the Forest Ranger and Hunter the Fire Fighter is excellent. I really got caught up in the whole protecting the towns things, l was catching the building fear and the stoicism of those duty bound to protect. To me, the romance took second place to Saturn the Forest Fire and was no worse a read for that. To turn off the radio as a curtesy, when deploying a a protection device made my stomach churn. Still a great tale and as always a happy ever after.
