    Arabella Cole is petite, an introvert while also being feisty and sassy. The only child of a distant father who will do anything to protect her, she loves reading, especially the classics and is a librarian collecting data and cataloguing at a University library. Maddux Wilder is a high tech billionaire who lives above his office in a converted warehouse in his penthouse with his younger siblings each on their own floor below his. Their parents were killed in a fire at their diner 14 years previously. It is Arabella’s father and his thug associate, Gavin who killed them… unbeknownst to Arabella. Theodore is deep in debt and Maddux not only buys the debt but Arabella sacrifices herself to pay off the additional 3 Million her father owes. And their story begins. Can Beauty tame this Beast? Can the Beast figure her out? Can he get revenge for his parents’ murder AND keep the girl or will there be too many betrayals to grant a HEA. A fun read with interesting characters along with witty dialogue and a female character who takes joy in playing…. And life.

    I like to read a good romantic story with erotic undertones, every once in a while. This is the story of Maddux Wilder, who had to take over taking care of his brother Hunter and sister Tempest when their parents were killed. We don't find out to the end of the story how their parents died, so as a good reviewer I will just leave you in suspense with that. Then there is Arabella Cole daughter of Theodore Cole who Maddux was seeking revenge on. The father was trying to push his young daughter together with his business partner, but she couldn't stand him, his name was Gavin. What happens is that Maddux and his siblings invited them to their Charity ball so that they could set a trap for Arabella's father and his business partner but in trying to set a trap for them his innocent daughter gets caught up in the trap. This book was really good. It was easy to read, and the hero and heroine have a happily ever after. I have another series I am reading by Erika Wilde that I am enjoying but I have to wait for another season to finish that series. I am definitely a fan of this author.

    Ah the lure of an attractive cover and an irresistible preorder price! Although I had read Ms. Wilde before, I should not have bought this book. The title: TOTAL SURRENDER; I dislike domineering alpha males in a story where BDSM is inescapable; fairy tale retellings leave me cold; I don't particularly care for revenge tropes. Pretty reckless of me, right? I expected a DNF early on due to my own stupidity. Yet, I kept on reading.

    While the writing did not induce a case of the vapours, it is very, very well written, and the editing is excellent. The story moved along well, and while the plot is far from original, the characters who, at first glance appear stereotypical are not; the execution is brilliant. Both Maddux Wilder and Arabella Cole surprised and delighted me all the way. He's definitely an alpha, forceful yet not abusive; he understands boundaries and respects them. He exudes charisma and, even if he's not my favourite type of hero, I really liked him and I would have succumbed to his charms as well. That is a tribute to Erika Wilde's superb characterisations. Arabella is a victim of circumstances but she is not a wimp; her motivations are logical, her decision is her own, and for once I could go along with her reasoning because if one is to be stuck in such an unsavoury situation, she could do much, much worse than Maddux. She's very philosophical about the whole thing.

    I was surprised that the romance was a slow burn and had none of the cringe-worthy moments I anticipated. The dialogues are excellent, and so are the inner monologues; they can be so tedious, which was not the case here; they're fun and provide insight into the characters' minds. Maddux is so not a dick even if he is a real dominant. E. L. James ought to read this book and see how it's done. There was some light BDSM, which I expected, so it did not bother me. Maddux and Arabella's chemistry is off the charts, and the sex scenes so well written, I did not even skim.

    I also liked the interactions between Maddux and his brother and sister, Hunter and Tempest. The characters are multidimensional and fun to watch, even the villains. TOTAL SURRENDER might be the best take on the Beauty and the Beast I have read in a contemporary romance. If you are a fan of everything the book description promises - unlike me, and I gave five stars - you will be ecstatic!

    This is your childhood fairy tale, level up! When you read a book and it sets off butterflies and tingles in your body, you know it hit the mark, and this one most certainly did. I believe this is the best book Erika has written to date, and that's saying a lot because haven't read one that I haven't loved.
