- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI wasn’t sure id like it starting out. But as I went on I noticed it was different from the other books in a good way. I got caught up in it pretty fast and couldn’t put it down! Excited for book 2.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is an odd sort of reverse harem, one that is weaving an end of times mythology as the narrative advances. Much of the character growth almost happens in the background, with pivotal moments appearing in touches and tie bits - much smaller in scope than they should be. The love that should grow has long since sprouted and we just catch up as the group remembers.
It’s unique, a med/fast burn that somehow doesn’t feel fast at all.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved reading this book. The characters were well developed and the story kept me reading. Thanks for a great story.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI think this may be the first book I’ve read from this author and I think it’s an older work. I wouldn’t say I was overly impressed. The flow of the story didn’t seem as seamless as I would have liked. Details seemed a bit dull and without any significant description. I know this is only 1 story within a series focusing on different females with each book, but there were so many unanswered questions by the end of this book.
The female lead was rather naive and pitiful. She blamed herself for just about everything and always thought the worst case scenario. She thought her men hated her, were mad at her, etc. I do think because of the upbringing of Anne, this is the reason she behaves the way she does. She’s had little contact with the real world and only knows what she is taught within the walls of the Sisterhood. So while I did find the Anne to be somewhat pathetic at times, I do think the author did a good job creating this character out of the environment given. It was believable even if I wasn’t a fan of Anne.
I think fleshing out the plot and the flow of the story would make this a solid 4-5 star book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love how in the book Anne has such a deep emotional connection with her five. I feel like a lot of mystical stuff was hinted at, and I hope the future books will give readers more information about it. The feel of something off in the beginning of the book, with Sister Katrina keeps being pushed down. Even know there was an inkling of something wrong, the way the book went surprised me.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2018Format: KindleFantastic! Rebecca Royce never disappoints and this book is no exception. Tradition Be Damned is sensational.
It's the end of days. Demons roam the earth, destroying, possessing. Anne was taken at birth as a gifted daughter to be one of the Sisterhood, the Order that fights demons. Each Sister lives a strict life of rules, remaining covered head to toe, never allowed freedom, and protected by a group of 5 guards. These guards pledge their lives for their Sister, but don't speak to them unnecessarily or even see their faces, although they do provide sexual release if called upon. It's a lonely, grueling existence for the Sister if she survives. Anne is the strongest of the sisters, but she is not like the others. She's the "weird one". She doesn't use her guards for sex, she worries for their safety, she's kind. She's also convinced that her guards hate her. She's so wrong! Her guards, Bryant, Mason, Garrett, Kieran and Milo adore her. They want nothing more than her safety and happiness.
Anne is such a complex character. She holds such power and strength, yet she doesn't know her own worth. She believes herself to be ugly and an embarrassment. She is so full of light, kindness, and love, but so insecure, so easily hurt. She's so easy to love. The guards were all great characters, but I would have liked a little more time with each. Once Anne started breaking tradition and disobeying the set Sister rules, she made a point to find out each guard's background and future dreams. This was good, but more individual time would have been even better.
This is a delightful, engrossing story. Fast-paced and well-written. It's clever and original. There's suspense and danger, lies and betrayals, passion, affection and deep love, sadness, anger, and finally hope. It's a read-all-night kind of book. I can't recommend it enough. If you enjoy Reverse Harems, if you enjoy the Supernatural, this is the book for you. So, so good! I look forward to the next book in the Last Hope series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere was not one thing I didn’t like about this. From the first page I was addicted and read over a few hours in one sitting I was so engrossed with it. I will be definitely checking out the rest of the series and seeing how other girls and guards/protectors find their way in the world after everything collapsed and the humans learned to survive in the world with demons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taken into her world.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWith this story, I was taken into a new world. It has been a long time since I was gripped this way by a book. Can't wait to read the next in the series, a further unfolding of the tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting story... Demon fighters & RH
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed this story of a woman known as Sister Anne who is tasked with protecting people against demons. She's given 5 guards to protect her and to start with she thinks that they all hate her. But she couldn't be more wrong.
Crazy stuff happens and you realise that the order that started our Sister Anne's journey as a demon hunter has been keeping secrets from not just everyday humans but the sisters themselves.
I really enjoyed the story and its unlike others I've read before. A bit of myth, legend, angels and demons, monsters and possessions. Well worth a read. I can't wait to see what happens next.
