- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2025With Lizzy Grey, you can generally expect an intriguing premise and a tale that moves along quickly. 'Trapped In Paradise' is no exception. While working undercover, policewoman Alix is drugged by her target and brought to a secluded island, where she awakens with implants that have transformed her figure drastically. She will now be the companion and plaything of her captor, Paul, who has the resources and assistance necessary to keep her for life.
The narrative does a great job of getting into Alix's head as she considers the apparently hopeless situation. Rather than appreciating her new body and her new home, she's repulsed by both, but has little choice other than to accept them. The light at the end of the tunnel comes in the form of John, Paul's other companion, whose compassionate nature draws Alix in more and more, which sets the stage for the novel's true romance.
Grey's erotic scenes are presented excellently. There are times when Alix wants to escape, and other moments when she appears to be aroused by her passionate sessions with each man, or both of them. I did feel that the author could have devoted a bit more time to exploring Alix's acceptance of the ordeal. As days become weeks, and weeks become months, she lounges about, does as she's told, and clearly settles into her new life, but the narrative, while detailed at times, does leave a bit to the imagination in this regard. We mainly learn through dialogue that she won't attempt escape because she doesn't want to be seen in society looking the way she looks now. I felt that it would have been more engaging to explore matters such as this via narrative. And how does she really feel about the prospect of living on this island for decades?
The romance with John becomes touching over time, and I definitely found myself rooting for them.
There are a few comma splices and incorrect uses of dashes here and there, but they don't distract too much.
Overall, it's a well-handled take on the concept.
