My fated mate is a powerful Fae king.
He must
never realize who I am.

I lead a humble life slaughtering monsters. As long as no one learns that I’m descended from a line of forbidden Dragon Bloods, I can keep my job and my life.

But when a fiercely sexy Fae king realizes I’m his fated mate, I’ve got problems. Especially since A), he hates me and B), he learns my secret. It puts my whole life at risk. I want to kill my mate.

The stars align when my job sends me to the Fae Court as an undercover agent to investigate him. Did the king kill
hundreds?

Even when I’m in disguise, he only has eyes only for me. He senses that I’m his mate, and our attraction is irresistible. Despite our mistrust, we can't stay apart. But when he realizes what I’m up to, there will be hell to pay. That is, if I survive.

Hunger Games feel but in the Fae Realm; Romance build, just enough to keep wanting to read the second book. And who wouldn’t want a Thorn Wolf at your side! Storyline is laid out well and keeps your attention. Easy to read and be pulled into the story. Must read!

I'm glad there are more books in the series, because this one got me hooked. The nice thing about this book is that it gets you straight into the storyline without a lot of filler. If you enjoy reading about the Fae set in the modern world, give this book a try.

I enjoyed reading Mari’s adventures and I look forward to continuing her story with the next book. And I don’t like writing reviews cause I never know how to express myself in an articulate way.

I enjoyed this story about Mari, her mysterious beginnings, and her kick-ass ways. The author did a fantastic job laying out this world, and introducing the cast of characters readers would encounter, and all of the “laws of physics” or magic, that applied in each. Her characters are fun and relatable, and the slight plot twist that brings Mari’s personal history into the limelight made it that much better. I can’t wait to read the next one.

    ✨Review: "Trial by Fae"by Linsey Hall. ✨

This is the first book in the dragon's gift: dark fae series. Mordaca (Mari) is a rare dragon blood demon slayer living in darklane with her sister Aeri. Practicing blood magic by day and slaying demons at night on behalf of the council of demon slayers. One afternoon a stranger of great power arrives at her door. Mari knows he is dangerous but feels a connection. The stranger calls her mate and discovers her biggest secret before leaving, that Mari has black dragon blood that allows her to create any type of magic. Desperate to find this stranger, Mari is unexpectedly summoned by the council to enter the fae realm. Dark magic has been seen and the biggest suspect of all is the king of the fae. When Mari arrives in the fae kingdom she discovers that the stranger she met, who knows her greatest secret, is none other than the King, Tarron, himself. Mari disguises herself and begins to unravel Tarron's secrets while fighting attraction and choosing to ignore the bond she feels to him. However, Mari has some secrets of her own.
This was a good story. I was initially drawn in by the plot. This is my first novel by Linsey Hall. The first meeting of Meri and Tarron was intense. They had good chemistry from the start. It kept me intrigued enough to keep turning the page. I liked Meri's house especially the details regarding entrance to the pool and secret apartments. I also enjoyed hearing about the entrance to the fae kingdom. My biggest concern with this book is that it felt rushed. Everything happened quickly with little explanation and some things I would have liked to hear more about. My favorite thing about this book is Meri's disguise. On the average day she dons revealing clothing, wears a mask of make up, and goes by Mordaca. Her disguise consists of no makeup, average clothing, and the name Mari. I found this very poignant in the matter of self love. Mari is going to see her potential mate in her truest form. This is a short book and felt more like a novella read because of it. The ending was intense enough that I will pick up the next one to continue Mari and Tarron's story.

Okay, I really wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I started this book, but the new cover had me very interested.

    Reasons I liked it:
    ☑️ Feisty/badass FMC
    ☑️ Intriguing MMC
    ☑️ Hunger game vibes
    ☑️ Fated mates
    ☑️ action packed

    Reasons I gave it 4 ⭐️ (really a 3.5 rounded up):
    ➖cheesy/predictable
    ➖about 90% through I told myself I wouldn’t read the next book
    ➖ending felt rushed

After finishing it, I’m not sure if I’ll read the rest of the series. The romance plot feels weak and though I do like the FMC, I don’t think she’ll be able to save the rest of the series. The overall plot was intriguing and who knows maybe I’ll take the plunge anyway and read the rest of the series!

Wooh girl, what a series opener!!! Action packed! Our main character is a badass and I can’t wait to see how her heritage plays out in the upcoming book, as well as what this means for her and Tarron. This book does end on a cliffhanger because it’s a series, but the series is completed thankfully.

Our main character is a rare dragon blood and will do anything to keep that a secret. She’s also a demon slayer who is sent to the fae realm to investigate a dark energy they are sensing. Turns out, the one they have suspicions of is her fated mate, though they plan to ignore the bond. In this book our girl goes through trials but her ultimate goal is to destroy the dark magic, while trying to ignore her fated mate and keep her secret AND find out what other lineage she has from her mothers side.

Super interesting story that hooked me from the beginning. I’m ready to see things heat up between our main characters though. Off to the next I go!

Firstly, too short. But other than that I loved it. The characters were likeable and I loved the chemistry between Tarron and Mordaca which ignited when they first met. Mates.

The trials were exciting but gruesome and Mari really had to work to get through to the next round. And the King was becoming a nuisance by continuing to pop up when he wants. Is he helping or hindering?

I cannot wait for the next instalment.

I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!

This is a really entertaining story about Fae. Full of magic, we have wolves, demons, mages,… and a big attraction between our main characters, Mari and Tarron that are supposed to be kind of enemies.

This story is very well written. It's entertaining and interesting. So full of adventures that you read it in no time always needing to know what’s going to happen next.

This is the first book I read by Linsey Hall and definitely wont’t be the last one.

A great story! Can’t wait to read the rest in the series. The characters are so real and conflicted. Mari’s story is fresh and new but all the previous chapters are along for the ride so it’s also familiar.

    Love this author!
