I had a tough time rating and reviewing this story. It's hard to pinpoint why, but I just couldn't get into this story.

It started off too fast, with Jason deliberately shifting in front of Emilia, in the first chapter. He had just rescued her from an attacker. She was in a nightclub with some friends and took a bathroom break. When she left the bathroom she was attacked, and this is where Jason stepped in and stopped her attacker. Part of his job was to get her info, since she's a shifter, and report the incident to his superiors.
Well, she supposedly has no knowledge of shifters, let alone knowledge that she's a shifter. So Jason's reason for shifting was because he was trying to convince her that she's a half-blood shifter. So... he decided to shift in front of her, in the nightclub, near the bathroom. Now, I'm no shifter expert, but I'm gonna have to call "Dumb move!" on that.

And how did Emilia handle all this? She basically asked Jason what she needed to do now. Yep, someone who supposedly knew nothing of shifters, see's a man turn into a wolf in front of her eyes, who tells her she was attacked by a shifter, a hyena, and that she herself is a half-blood bear shifter, and... she basically just wants to know what to do next.
Yea, she had a mild bit of panic, but come on!...You get licked and attacked by a weird guy. Another guy knocks weirdo off of you, then starts sniffing you and telling you your a half-blood shifter, and instead of leaving immediately, you hang around long enough for him to shift, then you want to know what you need to do next. I'm sorry, but this was just too much, and it was all in the first chapter.

Within the first few days of knowing her, Jason invites Emilia to a shifter's club (Ch. 3). It's at the club that they start getting their sexy on (Ch. 5). So, Jason takes her to his place, brings her to an orgasm, and discovers, while they're in an intimate position, that Emilia is a descendant of one of the largest shifter clans of North America, which puts her way out of his league. This also puts his job at risk. So, he makes her get dressed, calls her a cab and sends her home (Ch. 6).
Like I said, it started off too fast to suit me.
But... then it just seemed to drag from here because of all the shifter details that are provided.
As the story progresses, Jason is charged with taking Emilia to Canada to meet her biological shifter family, while protecting her from those shady shifters that want to kidnap her, all while trying not to act on his feelings for her. During this time we get to learn, along with Emilia, a lot about the ways of the shifters, how the council works, what the council laws are and so forth. Some details are fine, but for me personally, I got too many details about the ways of the council and the shifters, and the rogue shifters and the "Guard", which is the bad shifters, and the "Shades", which is what Jason's job title is.

Don't get me wrong... For the most part, I liked Jason and Emilia and some of the scenes between them were real good. I also liked some of the supporting characters. And yes, there is some drama, some fight scenes and some sex situations. But honestly, by the time I finally got to the end of the story, I was mighty glad. It was an okay ending for Jason and Emilia, but there were issues left hanging.

So, my final thoughts are, that for me personally, if I hadn't received this ARC for free, I don't think I would want to pay the current price for it. It was an okay read with a few editing errors, but it took me too long to finish it because, for some reason, it just didn't hold my interest.

What I love most about this book is that it explores the HOW of the shifter world in a new and interesting way. For more pragmatic readers, Trust the Wolf (and Zoe's series in general) explain how shifters can get by in the human world with little notice. Pragmatism aside, these books are SEXY, tightly written, FUN, full of intrigue, relatable characters, did I mention HOT?!?! Don't wait, explore Zoe's shifter world!

Romance is not really my cup of tea as far as genres go, but I can honestly say "loved it!" for this one. There was just enough of eveything in the book - romance to melt your heart, action to jump-start it, and sexy scenes to make it impossible to read the book in a cafe full of people without blushing. And the thing that made me (otherwise an avid fantasy reader) a true fan - shifters!
I'm already looking forward to Truth or Bear!
    Zoe, keep them coming! :)

It’s hard to believe this is a first book by this author. I was immediately immersed in Emilia and Jason’s story. They were attracted to each other from the beginning and their story is an excellent beginning to the series.
I read until almost 2:00 am and finished as soon as I woke up.

***Disclaimer: I received and advance reader copy from the author in exchange for my honest review, being this voluntary. This does not affect my opinion about this reading at all. ***

Trust The Wolf is the second book in the series. I just realized that there is another before this one (Bearly Married - Shifter Series .05). But you can read it as standalone. It's a paranormal romance, with a little action, good hot scenes, suspense, drama, secrets and a happy ever after. I like paranormal romance and the previously mentioned elements, definitely, are feature attraction for me.

The main characters are Emilia and Jason. Emilia comes from a family of adoptive parents. She only knows that her mother died at the time of his birth and has no further information about his lineage. His mother was human, his father was a bear shapeshifter. What makes Emilia a half-shifter. She does not know anything about the world of the shapeshifters, until she meets Jason.

Jason has some kind of security job. An attractive boy who acts as a hero, after having intercepted a boy who attacks Emilia. This event will be the beginning of an adventure for both, the beginning of an initial friendship with Jason that turned into something else. Well, the chemistry between them is instantaneous and sparkling.

Jason becomes someone to support Emilia. Helping her to discover who she really is, what her real roots are, sharing everything he can about the world of shapeshifters. The romance between them is low-angst. Emilia is a strong, daring character, who cares about others and wants to make a difference in her new world, when she discovers it.

The first chapter left me in expectation. It made me laugh. Enjoy it. However, at some point I felt somewhat bored. And it is that mid-book is when we have a bit of action again between shapeshifters. Jason's ambivalence, the moment he knew Emilia's true identity and with whom he was related, disgusted me. Although it did not take long for him to finally change his mind and decided definitely to continue with Emilia what he had started.

Emilia's situation can be intriguing and Jason's position as a mentor is an important factor in the development of the story. The way the author described the world of shapeshifters and how it works is interesting. As a debutant he has a good chance of increasing his readership. I hope that the next book keep my interest more than this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wolf!

Trust the Wolf is a pacy tale of shifter discovery and romance, and it gripped me from the off. Emilia is our no-nonsense heroine, and human, or so she thinks. When she is accosted in a nightclub by a nasty man who calls her 'little cub', she's saved by a hero who turns her life upside down. In more ways than one.
It helps that Jason, our hero, is dreamy gorgeous, so when he shifts into a grey wolf in front of her and names her Ms Bear, it takes little persuading for her to want to know more.
You guys, I loved this story so much. Ashwood's tone is playful and light, the romance is sparkling and entirely angst-free, and the chemistry is off the scale.
The story is humorous, and the emotional tone breezy and satisfying. There's a scene where Emilia and Jason stay overnight in the same room on a road trip, and the sexual tension is through the roof. It's resolved in a super hot way - I'm blushing remembering it.
The supporting characters are fun, setting up nicely for their own stories in this linked series. I can't wait to read on.
Trust the Wolf has made it to my top-reads list, and Ashwood is my new favourite author.

Was not what I expected. A wolf - shifter happens to met a half human shifter but she doesn't know what she is. She fumbles with all this new found knowlege. Parts are funny, action, and really enjoyed the book.
