The Truth Lies Buried
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
When Jenny Simpson returns to the seaside town of Borteen, her childhood home, it’s for a less than happy reason. But it’s also a chance for her to start again. A new job leads to her working for Carver Rodgers, a man who lives alone in a house that looks like it comes from the pages of a fairy tale - until you see the disaster zone inside....
As Jenny gets to know Carver she begins to unravel the sadness that has led to his chaotic existence. Gradually they realise they have something in common that is impossible to ignore - and it all links back to a meeting at a police station many years before.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2019There are secrets in the small town of Borteen Bay. A mystery that to this day remains unsolved. Several decades ago now several fathers never returned home – never ever to be seen nor heard from again. Why? The answer has never been found. But childhood friends, now adults dealing with life’s tragedies may finally find an answer – but probably not the one they thought to find. Or the connection beneath the surface to that time, and each other.
THE TRUTH LIES BURIED has layers that are peeled away slowly to bring us to modern time and some answers for Jenny, Carver and many others. But first, they each have to deal with a different loss and begin rebuilding lives that were crushed in the process.
Because THE TRUTH LIES BURIED is such a mystery and romantic suspense it’s not fair to mention any clues or details of this story. For that, you’ll have to indulge yourself. What I can safely tell you is that this is a story that will capture your emotions as lives are changed, rearranged and rebuilt – as the truth comes to the surface in a most surprising way. My heart broke for Jenny and Carver in many ways, but Carver is the most broken right now. Watching their friendship, and then perhaps more, start to heal them both was an enjoyable journey.
I don’t believe you will walk away from this story easily for it grabs your attention and demands your presence. I enjoyed every moment of this one, of discovery and of sadness, and finally of hope for the future. If you love a good Romantic Suspense or Mystery with a very likable, relatable couple then I would strongly recommend THE TRUTH LIES BURIED. I believe you’ll be quite satisfied with the results.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2018Another winner from Morton Gray. Really enjoyed this book from the unpredictable beginning to the end. The story grabs you from the beginning and your already on the edge of your seat. This is Jenny and Damien’s story. Jenny is hired to clean Damien’s house and then realizes that they have something in common, both their fathers disappeared the same time, and they had met at the police station years ago when they were very young. Here the story begins. Author does awesome job of bringing characters to life, and give great visualization to surroundings. Highly recommend for all to read. Unexpected twists and turns, romance and closure to the past.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2018What I loved about this novel is that it grips you from the start! It's a story about Jenny and Carver, who both have had major losses, struggles to overcome and mysteries that haunt them.
A well written novel whose story line is easy to follow, the characters are real and believable.
A story of suspense, romance and heartache, The Truth Lies Buried is a real page turner. I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Far more than just a romance
In Carver Rodgers, Morton Gray has created my kind of hero; a damaged fighter who battles his own demons with increasing conviction. He and his incredible wooden house in the middle of a forest are so beautifully drawn I could actually see and feel how it was to be there and it is no surprise that lonely and grieving Jenny falls for this potentially difficult man.
But this isn’t just a love story, there is a mystery to solve too, one that goes back to a long-forgotten link in Carver and Jenny’s pasts, and it had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happened.
A great read for those who want more than romance from their… um… romances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Likeable characters, great setting and plenty of intrigue.
I really enjoyed my first visit to Borteen Bay in The Girl on the Beach, and so I was greatly looking forward to reading The Truth Lies Buried. It certainly didn’t disappoint.
The two main characters grow as the story progresses, as does your empathy for them as you read. Carver was a good male lead, strong and yet sensitive, with a backstory that explains his state of mind and the manner to which he has become accustomed to living, before Jenny enters (or re-enters his life). He also has a dog, which in my opinion, is a bonus in any book.
The story and action unfold at a steady pace, with some lovely tender moments along the way. With likeable characters, a wonderful setting (I’d quite like to live in Borteen Bay) and a good amount of intrigue to hold you to the end, it’s an absorbing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read
Jenny is at a crossroads in her life. Is her future in the seaside town of Borteen or should she return to London? Add to the mix a handsome, moody widower, strange occurrences and a past hurt waiting to be resolved, and perhaps it’s not so easy to leave Borteen after all.
Gray’s second book in the Borteen series is a stand-a-lone romance with a mystery to solve. A great multi-layered read, as this story is also about bereavement, betrayal, abandonment and resilience. So put the kettle on, put your feet up and enjoy following Gray’s trail of hints and clues as a strange mystery develops. This is an enjoyable read with a relatable heroine, a tortured hero and a great twist … or two.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good read
This is the second book I have read by this author in her Borteen Secrets series The first was The Girl on the Beach which I thoroughly enjoyed and The Truth Lies Buried did not disappoint.
Indeed, it was everything I love in a book - a compelling mystery, a believable heroine, a gorgeous hero and a touch of romance. Plus, of course, the setting. I'd move to Borteen Bay tomorrow!
Looking forward to reading more from this talented author.
