The author of this collection of short stories spent a year working on a Native American reservation much like Turning Wind. He began as an Adult Education teacher thinking he would teach the reservation folk something they did not know. Instead, they wound up teaching him.

He learned that Mark Twain, James Fenimore Cooper, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and a host of other white authors seldom knew what they were writing about. A half-century later, he approaches these stories and sketches with sensitivity, understanding, and a debt of gratitude. Sometimes amusing, sometimes tragic, these tales are always insistently respectful of a people who occupied this continent long before Western Europeans.

In many ways, the Native American Indian is this country’s forgotten and neglected minority.

The author hopes that this collection will help correct, in some way, that error.

Characters come alive in this collection of short stories. Each tale is vibrant with emotion and reality, and I wanted to keep reading the moment it was finished. Read this book! The large print is nice also.
