Twisted Love: An Urban Fantasy Mystery (Michael Biörn Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 197 ratings

Werewolves are apex predators. When entire packs start vanishing into thin air, you know you have a big problem.

Park Ranger Bob Spencer transferred to Denali National Park five years ago, so Michael is more than a bit surprised when his old friend drops by unannounced on a Sunday afternoon and delivers a strange warning. Stranger still, Bob goes missing the very next day.

Michael soon draws a parallel between his friend’s disappearance and recent abductions. Abductions of a bizarre nature since entire packs of werewolves have vanished without a trace.

No one knows who’s behind the mysterious kidnappings, but Michael intends to find out.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between the ranger and a faceless enemy. A game with high stakes, because Michael isn’t the cat.

Will Michael figure out what hides behind the kidnappings, or will he be the next victim? Read Twisted Love now and find out.

Marc Daniel is the author of the Michael Biörn series. After spending time in Ohio, France, and Montana, Marc is currently living in Texas with his wife and two toy Schnauzers.

Marc developed a taste for mystery novels very young, and was definitely hooked to the genre by age 11 after reading Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. The Queen of Crime's unparalleled talent for mystery has had a strong influence on Marc’s desire to write and this is reflected in his novels. His taste for science fiction came a couple years later after stumbling upon The Dreaming Jewels by Theodore Sturgeon. Simak, Asimov, Van Vogt, Zimmer Bradley, Wells, Bradburry followed in short order. Marc was 18 when he read Frank Herbert’s Dune, his first space opera, and was immediately fascinated by the genre. He spent the next few years reading Space opera sagas almost exclusively (Herbert, Anderson, Bordage, etc) with the exception of the occasional Agatha Christie. He discovered fantasy much later at age 25 with Tolkien’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy. In the years following, his reading started gravitating more and more towards this literary style. Surprisingly enough, it took Marc another eight years to read his first urban fantasy, Patricia Brigg’s Moon Called, and to realize he wanted more. Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series partially tamed his appetite but his thirst could only be quenched by writing his own series. A year later, Shadow Pack was born.

Marc is currently working on book #3 of the Michael Biörn series.

A thoroughly enjoyable read! This book segues very well in the series. Michael Biörn, once again, gets himself immersed in praeternatural fighting, (Spoiler Alert from this point) but now the humans have their noses firmly stuck in the action, too. It is fun to see the various alliances that form throughout the story due to either necessity or loyalty, and I, particularly, appreciate all the complexity and diversity of the Fae world. The book's cliffhanger was well written as you feel validated by the loose ends that were tied up while, simultaneously, the story clearly is not over.

The characters are very fun and interesting, there is a ton of action, were creatures, magic, etc. The only thing it really needs is another book in the series, and luckily there is one. I recommend this book and series.

As a fan of Mitch Rapp and Scott Harveth, I have loved the Michael Biorn series. A completely different type of action adventure that really captures the imagination. Raises the question of are we really as human as we think we are. Can not wait for the next installment.

This book, like the rest of the series thus far, is a lot of fun. The characters have been developed more over time, as you would expect from a series. The focus on the real world, the one we all live in, provides a nice source of potential (and sometimes realized) conflict and complication for what might otherwise be relatively straightforward circumstances. For this book, the only one I've reviewed, I have but a few minor quibbles, and those are related to the "real world." First, no one who works for Interpol has any arrest powers as a result of that employment. Thus, there are no Interpol "agents" who are sent to make arrests. Second, Interpol issues no arrest warrants of any kind, international or otherwise. Any person who arrived in a country (France, in this case) proclaiming himself to be an Interpol agent, there to execute an "international arrest warrant," would receive the very unwelcome attention of that country's national police.

As usual there are hidden enemies everywhere and very few people the main protagonist Michael can trust . In this installment the United States Government has set out to capture were creatures for there own use and their next target is Michael but at the same time there is a new dangerous magical entity that has all the wizards anxious . Also Lucy is in trouble with the Vampires after she is accused of stealing a precious artifact from the Vampire Lord and is sentenced to death . Michael must race against time to prove her innocence which turns out not so easy . And of course the action is off the chains as Michael's loved ones fight for their very lives and allies are not to be trusted . NOT to mention this new secretly funded paramilitary group that's hunting down were creatures looking forward to the next book in this series .

A cracking read. It's nice to see intelligent plotting and avoidance of the more obvious plot developments which can afflict this genre. Going straight into the next one. Good work
