About the Author

Helen sets her books in the area she has lived in for many years. The towns and villages that sit in the shelter of the Pennine hills. This is an area between two counties, Lancashire and Yorkshire, and between the city and the hills. It offers a rich mix of the industrial and the countryside and all the character therein.

Helen always planned to write crime novels. But until she retired from full-time work in a local further education college, it had to go on the back burner. Once she did retire - there was no excuse. She now writes full-time. Retirement proper will have to wait!

2nd book in this series Love how it carries on from 1st book but with a new story Another good read another twist to the story. Now starting book 3.

While I found a different protagonist created by the same author more entertaining because he was handicapped psychologically, no praise would be too high for this plot. It’s one of those where the body is discovered on the first page and every time Manchester’s finest seem to be about to nab him, the suspect is found dead! So we the audience are kept guessing. Who’s the mastermind? Could it be the man our heroine had an affair with 20 years ago?
Like other books by the same author Americans need a certain amount of re education to fully appreciate this one because of the heavy dose of northern English slang. Police officials are known with initials like DS (detective sergeant). But fortunately there’s a very detailed glossary. I guess the author knows the American audience. We’d rather have all the local color and occasionally have to look up something than have the text heavily edited.

Two Victims was a bit more interesting than the first Rachel King book. However, I don't believe the ending was a 'massive twist'. Most of the ending was a bit obvious just by deductive reasoning. And I am not fond of the Rachel King character. She seems a bit of a liar and dishonest in her private life, as well as in her career. The story was interesting, like I said. I just don't have sympathy for characters like Rachel King.

I do like Helen H. Durrant's other series, Calladine and Baylis. I will give book three in the Rachel King series a go, it was just released and I am hoping it is as good as it sounds

Strong story lines, plenty of action with Detective Rachel King again leading the team to solve a difficult case of two murders. King's support characters are worthy of mention as they deserve if for their strong performance pushing the story line along.

This is book 2 in the DCI Rachel King series set in Manchester. We first met Rachel and her team in Next Victim which was a brilliant introduction to the series.

Rachel's domestic life adds an interesting vein to the series as does her past. Divorced (with her ex husband living next door), Rachel is trying to juggle a demanding career with the problems that come with bringing up 2 teenage girls. Megan is at university and that brings its own issues whereas Mia is still at school., suffering from Type 1 diabetes and also nearly losing her life in a kidnapping it is understandable that both Rachel and Megan are protective of her.

The book itself is fast-paced with the suspense beginning on the first page and building all the way through. There are several things going on the keep the reader totally engrossed in the story.

The body of a young woman is found in a ditch. She has been shot and while forensics are searching for clues another body is found, this one a teenage girl. To add to the issues faced by Rachel and her team the bodies are on land being developed by Jed McAteer. Jed is a loveable rogue from Rachel's university days who keeps popping up where he isn't wanted. Rachel and Jed share a secret, one that could destroy Rachel's life and career.

As the team begin investigating they uncover more wrongdoings and a DCI from another station starts to muscle in on the action. People trafficking, sex slaves and worse are all thrown into the mix. As cases become entwined can Rachel hold on to her suspect and find justice for the dead?

This is a twisty turny book that had me hooked at the very first page and kept giving all the way to the totally unexpected ending. An absolutely brilliant read. I cant wait for the next book in this series.

After reading the first book and even though I thought it could of had a few twists in it it kept me interested so book 2 in the series is better and kept me interested if I can't get into a book by chapter 3 I don't read any more and I know I will have missed out on a few good books but that's just me. I'm now getting to know the main characters and this book made me get the last one in the series..
