Moving to Sweetwater Valley, where my parents live, is a chance to start fresh and see what the next stage in my life is all about. I thought for sure after Christopher’s death that I would spend the rest of my life alone with my two kids as my focus. Watching someone you love waste away leaves you broken and exhausted. A fresh start and a chance to breathe is all I’m looking for, maybe a pet once we are settled. I figure no one will ever want to take on the baggage of a 39-year-old woman with two kids. I didn’t think that I’d be swept off my feet by the resident, self-declared, bachelor for life who is nine years younger than me.

I moved to be closer to family, to hunker down and ride out the storm the last year blew in. I wanted time to adjust to life as a single mom while focusing on my writing. I’m prepared to face the judgement and small minds of a small town, considering my parents already faced it. I’m prepared for my black skin to raise eyebrows along with my blue eyed, light skinned children. I’ve faced all of that before.

There was no way that I could have seen Maverick coming or that he would be my lighthouse bringing me in from the storm.

MAVERICK

I’m content in my life, content with my revolving bedroom door without real connection and only physical satisfaction. Well, I try to convince myself that I’m content. I knew before my last hook-up that I need a change or else I’m going to run out of women that I haven’t taken to bed. That thought is as sobering as the realization that random women don’t hold the same appeal that they used to.

I don’t see many options outside keeping up appearances and playing the role that everyone expects of me. Floating through life with my bar, The Goose, as my only priority seems like my only option. I don’t see how I can have the wife and the kids that some of my friends have, so instead I watch and live the life I tell myself that I want.

Then I find Lark, my beautiful little bird with broken wings but a soaring soul.

Once I see Lark, everything changes. I know I have found my something more in her and her kids. I know that I can mend her broken parts. I know that I can be exactly what Lark and her kids need, if given the chance.

No matter who Sweetwater Valley thinks I am, I know I’m the man they need in their lives. I will prove it to the town, and I will prove it to them.

There was no way I could have seen Lark and her kids coming or that they would be the joy and the love that brings me light.

    This book touched my heart in so many ways. Lark and her 2 children Elijah and Everly return to her hometown after the loss of her husband and their father. Then fate send the town man whore Maverick her way. Their meet cute is very very interesting. And leads to a whole soap opera type drama. I'm not spilling any tea. You'll just have to read it yourself.
    But with that being said I loved every little bit drama, tears, laughter, sassiness, steamy sex of Lark and Maverick's story. And Larks daughter Everly totally stood out in this book. When they say kids say the darndest things they definitely meant Everly. She will have you laughing out loud a lot! And the way they honored the children's deceased father was soooo beautiful! Yes, I cried. Ember Davis you rocked this book!!💯💯 I highly recommend this book. It truly is an amazing read. You will not br disappointed at all.

    This turned out to be a wonderful read! It appeared like a insta-love type of situation; and for Maverick, maybe it was, but there was some real meat to their story. Nothing wrong with it, but it wasn't just fluffy, feel-good stuff. Maverick sees Lark in the market and just knew she was the one. Lark, however, was busy grieving a loss. Maverick was a man-whore who realized how empty his life truly was and was ready for a change. He just didn't know how fast it would come upon him. But when it came, to his everlasting, sexy-ass credit, he handled it like a champ! There was absolutely NO equivocation on his part concerning Lark!

    For Lark, it was a lot reflection about her life; in a real personal way as a woman who was largely unfulfilled most of it and also, mothering her two wonderful kids (Elijah and Everly) that she had to help through grieving as well. The hook for me was HOW Maverick met her needs; and not just sexually, but as a man, as HER man. He was solid, steady, consistent, and just there! And for her part, Lark really SAW Maverick. She really believed in him. I also really liked Lark, she wasn't a pushover. She was a real woman. They were both just refreshingly human with real issues they were dealing with, but they complemented each other so beautifully.

    And those kids; I could just steal little miss Everly and smother Elijah with hugs and kisses!

    This book contains such a compelling story. It hit all the marks and all the feels. We are given in Maverick a hero who is a bad boy but such a sensitive soul. He has literally slept with almost all the eligible women in town. To me, it becomes a running joke as he navigates the town with his new love and voices to us whether or not he has slept with a woman they encounter. Lark is new to town...moving to be close to her parents after suffering the devastating loss of her partner and the father of her two young children. She and Maverick meet in a grocery. He is shopping after one of his FREQUENT one night stands and she appears sad and loss in thought. Without actually seeing her clearly Maverick feels as if his heart opened up. Love at first glance. To him she appears broken and he thinks he can help heal her....not knowing that he needs healing just as much. His LAST one stand, Megan, proves to be a scary if rather pathetic villain to the story.
    This book is a free borrow on Amazon....as with all great books I PAID it the ultimate compliment of purchasing it.
    Hoping we hear more from Sweetwater soon!

    The only thing I didn’t love was the constant put down of her deceased partner. There were so many times that after awhile I didn’t understand how they were ever together.

    I didn't think I would like this sappy book, but I did. There was not a lot of drama going on and it was still good. Maverick was territorial (obsession). I wasn't going to read it at first because she was older. I usually hate cougar books, but this on was so good to me. I didn't skip anything. This book was the epitome of love. I love how you explained the reaction of people to an interracial relationship. This book was awesome. I could go on talking about this book, but I don't want to write a book about a book.

    What a wonderful unexpected romance read! I’m always in awe when I read my first story by a new author and am totally swept in the words. Lark’s character has strength for a million women, patient, and a lot of love to give. When she meets Maverick she doesn’t know what hits her, but when he doesn’t give up and shows her what she deserve it was so swoon worthy. A well written storyline with lots of steamy moments that will have you wanting more made for a must read. I can’t wait for more from this author who doesn’t disappoint.

    Maverick was a man whore living life by his one night stand. Mark was a broken person after the list of her partner and the father of her children. Faith intervene for them both when Mark moved to the small town to recoup and refresh. Both their lives turned around and they both found true and amazing love, acceptance and peace which lead to their HEA. Me Ember you have now joined by list of favorite romance novelist looking forward to my next read. Hope it's as good as this one
