About the authors
A third-generation soldier, Kelly Washington isn’t afraid to push boundaries in real life and in her fiction. Regardless the genre—fantasy, science fiction, or romance—her writing style packs a powerful punch by featuring strong and independent, yet flawed, characters. Born into a family of voracious readers, she ignores as many obligations as possible in order to finish writing one more chapter.
Kelly is the author of the Falling for Him trilogy, the four-volume epic fantasy series, Reclaimed Souls, the Moira Rothrock novella series (Unlocking the Devil and Sleeping with the Devil), the stand-alone Freaky Friday-esque military romance novel, Collide Into You, and the science fiction romance novel, Claiming the Heart of Vraithe.
Her short fiction has appeared in Overheard Magazine, Cutter’s Final Cut, spillover mag, Fahmidan Journal, Pulp House Fiction Magazine, Kaleidotrope, Heart’s Kiss, and multiple Fiction River anthologies. Her short story, “The American Flag of Sergeant Hale Schofield” was a 2016 Year’s Best Crime and Mystery Story.
When Kelly isn’t writing, she works for the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C.
Cast out of the universe like cosmic Cain, A. A. Rubin roams the planes of reality, jumping through the variegated permutations of the multiverse across space and time. On this plane, in addition to the books on this page, his work has appeared recently in Love Letter to Poe, Cowboy Jamboree, and Ahoy! Comics. Doomed to travel and record, but never find a home, he chronicles his adventures across social media as @TheSurrealAri, and can be reached--in most dimension--through his website, www.aarubin.com.
Phebe Shumate-Yawson graduated from Devry College of Technology in 2002 with an Associates Degree in Telecommunications Management and Special Honors in social and academic achievements. Currently she is an Award-winning author.
She was home-schooled and graduated at the age of 16 before attending Devry College of Technology in the summer. Upon graduating from Devry she moved to Ghana, Africa for over 13 years. There she assisted a midwife for over 9 years learning much about healthcare and midwifery.
Though she wrote music for children in hospitals, performed in sketches for under privileged children, assisted in feeding of over 200 children a week. Her talents were most alive while reciting her poetry and writing short stories
Chris Vandyke is the founder and president of Skullgate Media, an indie-publishing collective dedicated to changing the way writers work together. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of Tales from the Year Between, a weird-fiction anthology and Skullgate's flagship publication.
He was born in 1979 and spent the first 16 years of his life in the small coastal town of Gold Beach, Oregon. Since 2002 has been a High School English Teacher in the New York City Public School System, which is, needless to say, somewhat different than his hometown. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, two children, and a menagerie of animals. They are currently one goat shy of a petting zoo.
Currently, he has two novellas available in his Post Cards from NeoTokyo series, cyberpunk noir adventures following the adventures of a private eye in a robot-ruled dystopian future. He is currently querying "Love Songs for the Robot Apocalypse," a YA Sci-Fi romance involving time-travel, 90's alt-rock mixed tapes, and teenage lesbians falling in love, as well as "Dragon's Curse," the first installment in an epic fantasy trilogy. He has also finished a number installments in his "Farhome Elf Chronicles," a ten-part Middle-Grade series aimed at reluctant readers. He has also published a translation of the medieval viking saga, "The Saga of Ragnar Lodbrok," under the name Christopher Van Dyke

Jayme Bean is an independent author who enjoys writing stories that speak both to the wonders of the world and the highs and lows of the human condition. Inspired by her travels around the world and her career as a zookeeper, she writes using her experiences, which lend a unique viewpoint to her stories. I’m Emily and I write. Sci-fi and Fantasy are my genres of choice, and sometimes I even knock out some poetry and flash fic. I love the Oxford comma (and parentheses).
I’m Canadian, born and bred, living on the cold expanse of the prairies with my family. I'm also a 4-time recipient of the Cat Distribution System.
When not writing, I also read, game, and spend too much time on the internet. I love history, heavy metal, and cheesy action movies.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2021An anthology written and illustrated by over twenty authors and illustrators, detailing an epic space opera told in the form of star maps, illustrations, comics, poetry, flash fiction, short stories, verse, and even a stage play. The galaxy, dimension, and reality-bending twists and turns caught me off guard in every segment of the story.
I’ll put this up top so there’s no question: if you like space operas, you’ll have fun with this anthology. At the end of the day, it was an entertaining read that would be best read a few stories at a time, so you never quite lose traction or the plotline.
I loved the diversity of writing styles and formats. There’s anything from star maps to comic illustrations, from flash fiction to stage plays. More specific than that, there are stories that are very character-driven and intimate, and then those that are very action-packed and plot-driven. Each author has their own voice, and it gives something different to the over-arching story.
And speaking of the plot itself, it was at times entertaining, then intellectual, and suddenly emotional. By the end, there were so many different threads going so many different directions it became a little difficult to pick through them all, but I can’t help but think that some of the complexity was on purpose for reasons I won’t get into (sorry, spoilers!)
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2021If you have ever wondered what poor sci-fi writing looks like then look no further because Vandiver delivers it in spades! This is the first author that I have ever read who seriously needs to quit writing and stick with their day job. Writing is definitely not in their skill set!
