- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2019What a gritty emotional ride through the twists and turns through a relationship. From a "schoolboy" crush to fully developed feelings for one another, this trilogy takes you from one extreme of human emotion to another over and over again. Beware it is a dark and twisted story but the payoff is amazing. I couldn't put this down.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2018I'm going to review each novel separately so you can get a feel for all of the novels. They are all full length and Lilah has done a superb job with this series.
Therapy:
After years of lusting after his boss Lina, Thomas finally gets her to agree to come to his house. He's brave enough to introduce her to his lifestyle and tries to help Lina break free of her bad habits. While she is a strong, independent woman, Lina comes with baggage, insecurities from an old flame. But Thomas is sure he can break her of those. Thomas is not without his flaws, he's still learning how to be a proper Dom and can slip up from time to time. Caught up in each other, neither of them realize that their relationship has not gone unnoticed until it's too late, and it may just be something they can't come back for. Unorthodox Therapy is raw and emotional, extremely well written and very intense.
Chemistry:
It's really important to read the previous books in this series to really get a grasp of the beautiful story that Noir has weaved for us. So there is a chance the book is going to be spoiled in this review, but the review needs to be able to do the book justice.
Thomas and Lina have been apart for months, and Lina, now suffering from PTSD, needs to move on. She is bogged down by rituals, reflective of OCD, just to help her cope through the day. But she has found a safety net in Nate. He's calm, caring, and vanilla. Everything Lina thinks she needs, but without all the sparks. As Lina puts it: "My need for a life partner, someone to rely on, a friend, was stronger than all the heartbreak and longing. Nate could be the best chance I'd ever have for a relationship and happiness."
And while it might work for a while, it might not be enough. She's told him as much as she can about her past, the heartbreak, the hurt, and fear, and most importantly, her submissive needs. He wants to help her, he wants to be the man she desires, and an opportunity presents itself in Thomas' best friend Allie, Mistress Sheila to her subs. She's throwing a birthday party, and in Mistress Sheila's world, her parties are the height of kink, so why not invite Lina and her new boyfriend to the party? Perhaps Nate will learn something useful. But you know Allie can't throw a party without inviting her best friend.
Unorthodox Chemistry has moments of intensity, of heartbreak and beauty. While not conventional by any means, the relationships between each of the characters are strong and emotional, there is a depth to each of them. Noir has developed a world in which the readers are pulled in, wrenched in the characters highs and lows, anxious to find out what happens next.
Union:
So alas we get to the final book in the trilogy and for me, it was a hard goodbye as I'm not ready to let anyone go (except for Seth, of course.) I'm really hoping that perhaps, with enough pleading, that Ms. Noir will write (another) .5 edition or something along those lines because she closed the series so wonderfully.
Things have never really been totally easy for Lina and Thomas because Seth was always there in the peripheral of their minds. But things were supposed to be better, he was behind bars, and they're starting to move on in their relationship. Even Allie has someone in Nate, and things seem to be going so well for them. They're expanding their reach in ChaosTech and it's going to be a big hit, even Nate is involved with the project, and he fits right in. But Nate is keeping secrets and those secrets might just prove too much for everyone involved.
Three words come to mind when I think of this book, sexy, suspenseful, and superb. Lilah is brilliant when it comes to writing the suspense, so much so that I found myself staying up late because the stress of not knowing became too much and I just *had* to know what was going to happen. The scenes between Lina and Thomas were exceptionally *hot*.
There were nice little touches of writing in the book and I would like to quote a few of them. "Thomas had an unorthodox application for every object in the house." and indeed he does ;). "The mistress of guilt is already whipping you straight in the soul." So beautifully said.
The writing in this book is beautiful and phenomenal, and it is by far my most favorite book in the series. I found myself relating to quite a few pieces written in here, and I think that's the mark of a truly great book. Very well done!
I can't say enough about how wonderful this series is. Everything from the covers down to the writing is carefully and beautifully done. If you love erotic romance, you are really going to dig this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2020I do not understand the 5 star reviews of these books. The first thing I want potential readers to know is that there's BDSM and then there's abuse. Some of the stuff in these books falls into the category of abuse. I'm honestly not sure why I finished reading the series, except I'm just not a quitter. I rarely ever stop reading a book once I've started it. I didn't hate this series, but I definitely didn't like it.
This trilogy is made up of 3 books that follows a couple, Lina and Thomas, through several years of their relationship.
I’ll divide my review up into the 3 separate books:
Therapy
The book starts with an incredibly strong business woman, Lina, who has made her IT startup one of the top upcoming companies in California. However, she cannot kick her smoking habit. Her former PA, who now works on the development side of her IT company, Thomas, has had a crush on her since they met and sees her sneaking a cigarette. In an attempt to help her kick her smoking habit Thomas offers to become her Dom and have her submit her will to him in all things.
OK, it’s a stupid plot, but it’s fiction so we’ll just go with it. He secretly loves her, she falls in love with him, but they have to hide their relationship because she’s the boss and it’s not appropriate for her to have a relationship with him in the office. So their relationship is secret & their BDSM life is just awkward to me. My biggest issue through the whole series is that Thomas isn’t a convincing Dom. He’s still new at it, she’s 11 years older than him, and he has so many self doubts running constantly through his mind that I want to cane or flog him. He’s just not a convincing Dom.
At one point Thomas loses control during a scene and brutally abuses Lina. She has to safe word out a because he turned into a “monster” sodomizing her with an unlubricated cane (after he finishes caning her). This is not BDSM, this is abuse and not good reading. Authors need to learn the difference in BDSM and abuse. After that, Lina goes back to him! More drama ensues, she’s kidnapped, he saves her, takes care of her while she goes through PTSD from the kidnapping, but ultimately Thomas lets her go so she can truly heal.
In other words, Cliffhanger! This story wasn’t bad, probably 2 stars. I wanted to read the next one just to see what happened to this broken couple.
Chemistry
The second installment opens up with Lina still trying to recover from her kidnapping and Thomas trying to adjust to life without Lina. Lina starts dating a very vanilla guy, Nate, and tries to move on but she’s still in love with Thomas. Thomas’ best friend, Allie, is tired of seeing him miserable so she develops a plan to get Thomas & Lina back together.
The plan works, Thomas & Lina are back together. (I won’t spoil what happens with Nate.) They resume their BDSM relationship and …it’s still more like abuse than BDSM to me. When a Dom does a scene with his submissive and takes away her safe word and hard limits (she had blood as a hard limit), that’s not BDSM that’s abuse, control, and scary. During their reunion Thomas slaps Lina across the face and makes her lip bleed – that’s not sexy. He bites her shoulder and makes her bleed - that’s not sexy. She runs screaming outside to get away from him and he catches her telling her that by running away she earned herself a spanking of 10 strikes. WHAT?!?!?!? Again, this is not Dom behavior, this is a mentally disturbed man abusing the woman he is supposed to love.
This second installment ends when a person from their past comes back in the picture to potentially put an end to their future....so again a Cliffhanger.
Union
It took me a long time to finish the 3rd installment of the series because it lacked a plot for 1/2 the book. It was just a whole lot of punishing BDSM.
The book starts with Lina & Thomas happy as a couple. (That's code for no plot, lots of BDSM scenes.) Allie, Thomas & Nate form a partnership with Lina's software company.
Allie is not a likable character. She is much more of a believable Dom than Thomas is. By that token you just see her as manipulative & cruel. It's hard to want anything good for her because you know she's just gonna be cruel with it.
About 1/2 way through this book something (besides BDSM) finally happens. There's a twist you don't see coming so I won't spoil it. The book drags a lot, very slow at times. Ultimately we do get our HEA, but it took 3 painful books to do it.
I do not recommend this series of books, won't read anything else by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2022I didn't get halfway through this book. BDSM captures my attention but this is just mean to me. I don't like mean. Cruelty is not,
should not be sexy and should not be the goal.
I've read this genre before and have never been so turned off by it.
