The opening scene was very predictable and I was not sure I could finish this book. I am very glad that I kept reading. This is a Very engaging story. Bread character and plot development. Some improbable developments but it is science fiction! And now I am fully hooked.

I enjoyed most of the story but when it got "preachy" where everyone must love one another and feel the peace it was a bit overboard for me. The story, itself, was pretty well done and kept my interest as it moved along and at times it was a bit predictable. Yes, it could have been better but as a story to relax and enjoy it hit the mark.
On the next book. Fingers crossed.

I enjoyed the author’s storytelling. His characters seem reasonable and add a lot to the smooth flow of the story. Packed with action sequences and space battles. The reader barely has time to catch their breath, much less find a good stopping point. I lost a little sleep because of this, as it made it hard to put the book down.

This revised book ‘Definitive Edition’ is a Military Space Opera at it’s best. Multiple plots and sub-plots, numerous aliens, various motivations, a little romance, and lots of space battles ensure that there is something for everyone. A surprise mystery ending, sets the stage for much more to come in this universe spanning adventure.

The author also included another novella: “Ryonna’s Wrath”, within this ‘Definitive Edition’. This novella was originality a separate book listed as ‘Universe in Flames - Novella 1.5'. It expands on the character Ryonna, who is an important alien within the series. So it’s like getting two books for the price of one. Buy it now! You’ll be glad you did.

Note: I purchased the original version back in March of 2017, which I enjoyed. I was given an advance copy of the ‘Definitive Edition’, which is a much improved rewrite of the original version. This remake is so improved that I increased my rating to 5 stars and purchased the new version to support the author’s efforts.

First, the things I liked about this book.... it is well written, with almost none of the typographical or editorial errors that were once so common in science fiction e-books. The author discloses right up front that English is not his first language and that this edition of the book, first in the series, has been rewritten (thus, the "Definitive Edition") to better tell the story. The story line, though well-used by many authors, is usually interesting. He gives us the usual features; evil reptilian alien villains led by a sadistic emperor, huge 7 feet tall and bulky aliens (sometimes friendly, usually not), and a hero who is smarter than most, brave, somewhat reckless, and always able to come out on top. Some of the things I didn't like: if you're going to write a book with a Naval or Military theme, you should at least do enough research to have a passing familiarity with the subject. A Navy Lieutenant Commander is addressed in conversation as "Commander", for example. Some readers will accuse me of "nit-picking" but the (retired) career Navy man in me is distracted by such oversights. I found the book formulaic, in that much of the story is the same as many other such books, but with a lack of nail-biting suspense and brief, easily-solved battles. I am not fond of fantasy science fiction, so I was somewhat put off by our hero's conversations with Aphroditis, Olympian goddess of love, who has decided to help Earth by working through our hero. What's not to believe: the Alliance Fleet arrives in orbit over Earth in the present time, stops all the wars, unites the various governments, does away with borders, solves all racial and religious differences, and forms a new universal government - almost overnight, by a 90 percent instantaneous vote of everyone on the planet. Now, that's an accomplishment. Overall, I didn't find this book to be bad, just not very interesting and definitely not exciting.

I had bought a couple of later books in the series when they were on special promotions and really enjoyed them. I knew I wanted to get this book when it was promoted as a rewrite because I wanted to find out how the characters were introduced and get their stories. This is a very well-written book, with non-stop action, which keeps you turning pages and I missed some sleep in not wanting to put it down. It’s a combination of space travel and interaction with Greek gods and a little love interest. This is really a good read which sets up a great series. I highly recommend this book and series.

Earth Last Sanctuary the Definitive Version 2018 is the excellent Space Opera brought to us by Writer Christian Kallias. If you are looking for epic space battles, various competing alien cultures, and politics, religious fervor, cryptic messages from ancient gods, this is the book for you! And the best part is there are more books in the series to look forward to! A real page-turner, readers beware! You may lose some sleep once you open this book; it is that hard to put it down.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book now! This is the introduction to one of the best new Space Operas I've read. Very innovative and original plot lines that combine Greek and Norse mythology with cutting edge Military SciFi in a fantastic multidimensional universe. The characters are richly developed and draw you into their lives immediately. Loaded with epic space battles as well as individual fights to the death. There's even romance included. This book has it all! As if these were not reasons enough to get this Special Edition, Kallias has included a novella featuring Ryonna (one of the series' characters you'll love). You're literally getting two books for the price of one!

An action packed rollercoaster ride of a story. A surprise attack forces the remnants of the Alliance fleet to a forgotten part of the solar system and it arrives just in time to save Earth from an alien attack. An enjoyable read with lots of parallels with Star Wars and Star Trek. The main characters are likeable, suitably heroic and selfless, the enemy evil and despotic and with an added Greek mythology angle that provides some excellent touches. Highly recommended and with lots more in the series I will be reading these for sometime to come.

Enjoyed the plot and the sub plots. Didn’t enjoy the primitive writing style and naive way some situations are handled. Reading at the end that English is not the author’s first language helped me be more sympathetic regarding the sentence construction and at times jerky writing. However not enough to give this a top rating. Main characters are interesting. Still many loose end to tie up. Debating if I will get the next book.

Classic sci-fi of the baddies trying to defeat the goodies with a sinister figure in the background. Throw in the Greek gods and a hero who is more than mere human.
    A good read.
Bring on the next in the series.
