Twilight of the Gods (Universe in Flames Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 924 ratings

Darkness Extinguished the Starlight and the Gods Wept.

Chase tries to convince Thor and the Asgardians to reconsider Kvasir's fate as well as membership in the Earth Alliance. Oryn believes she knows a way to convince the Asgardians to join them in their fight against the Furies, but Thor is not easily manipulated.

The Furies move en masse to Droxia to finish what they started earlier as Sarah is tested in unexpected ways.

When Arakan sets his sights on Asgard, Chase sees this as an opportunity to assemble a strong and forceful Alliance. One that could bring down the Furies once and for all.

Despite appearances, Supreme Commander Arakan knows exactly what he's doing. And as the battle draws near, he's determined to strike a blow to the heart of the opposition; one that will resonate throughout the ages.

I just love this author’s work. He starts off my giving us a list of characters, and then follows up with a reminder of how we got to this point in his cleverly crafted story. He and his editors do a fantastic job, which makes the tale roll off of the tongue without interruption. I guess that I should also give kudos to his illustrator(s) as well for designing such a great cover, though at this point the cover could be blank with the author’s name and an 8 on it and I would still buy it. I thank you ALL for your efforts! You have brought enjoyment to many. Keep’em coming.

I wrote the above paragraph prior to reading the author’s comments at the end of the book. Pardon me (as I wipe the egg off of my face). It seems that not only is Mr. Kallias a gifted writer, but he is also the illustrator of his books. Turns out that in addition to his writing skills, he is also a freelance artist. Go figure.

I love the complex storyline with all of the many sub plots and character backgrounds. How he weaves them altogether makes his intriguing universe come alive. It will be interesting to see where Mr. Kallias takes us from here.

    The Future - Possible Spoiler

Looks like Mr. Kallias plans to put the Fury war to bed with a 2 part finale, then I assume that he will take us on to a ‘Battle for the Universe’ against the dark shadow beings (currently only known by Arakan). Course we have to save Menelas, and retrieve the fancy war ships first, so there is still plenty of action to look forward to. Not to mention completing all of the sub plots. Like restoring Gaia, who hopefully will be able to unlock the secrets of the instantaneous warp drive, and settle down with her true love. Saving Aphroditis from her worst than death fate, organizing Tar’Lock’s hive planet to help the alliance, establishing a government for the alliance, rebuilding everything everywhere, etc.

On another note: Just wondered... Does Zeus & Apollo see Hades before Elysium?

I like the Series VERY much! As always there is a "but":
I dont like how Kallias has to use plot armor several times. I felt it was unnessesary while reading. I hope plot armor wont be necessary in the next installment (which i will read 100%).

If you would ask me for a few word summary it would be: "Sci-Fi reimagination of Sayajins"

10 of 10 would read again!

This episode of the Universe in Flames series is again non-stop action in a complex story that combines Sci-Fi, super powers, Greek and Norse mythology, as well as several humanoid and non-humanoid races. Readers finally learn Chase's and Argos' heredity which sort of explains their incredible super powers. They are in an "all out" battle with the Furies who always seem one step ahead of them in strategy. The Fury leader, Arakan, distracts the Earth Alliance forces with an attack on their ally, Droxia, while he secretly sends assassins to Asgard to kill Odin, and goes, himself, to Olympia to kill Zeus. Chase, with the help of his friends, are able to thwart 2 of the 3 attacks successfully, but unable to save the third. Looking forward to the next episode in this continuing saga.

A good read and enjoyable saga to follow
The only thing I would change are the Americanisms of language that slip in eg., "Mom", etc. All the rest of the dialogue text is nationality/gender neutral. Just occasionally the author's personal "isms' slip in and seem not to fit the sentence. The character Chase is an example. Not a criticism, just as suggestion from a non-American reader
  • Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2021
I truly enjoy the continued saga for Chase and his brother Argos , the love hate relationship is written perfectly.
There is just the right level of humor and sadness to balance out this adventure and keep you from putting down this story!
  • Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2023
Arakan is showing more and more signs of being mind disturbed. But is it? Bearing in mind the experience Chase had. And Aphrodite's forecasts of a black evil on the rise?
Hence it may not be surprising that Asgard has become a focus point of Arakan as to prevent them becoming involved with the war against the Furies.
And then there's the hatred Arakan harbours against Zeus too.
There is no doubting the fact that in Twilight of the Gods the Furies are escacalating the war on many fronts, but Valhalla and Asgard being the prime targets.
    Enjoy.

War is terrible. I grew up with war movies in the 50's & 60's. It was glorified until the Vietnam war. Then our eyes were opened to the horrors. This this story was great but the ending was so sad. I can only hope that the fantasy aspect and imagination of the creator will end it well in the next 2 books. The dialogue after the book ended from the author was uplifting with his plans for future books. I love his writing style and look forward to all his current and future books.

Fantastic book, it keeps you glued to each chapter. The store continues on the same way life does in reality although the action of the characters draws you into their world. And the author's use of the mythical legends of our time.

Fantastic 8th book in the series. the pace is non stop with high emotions and drama. Cannot recommend the universe in flames series enough, if you like star wars, stargate etc but looking something more then this is for you. Christian is a great writer with clear passion for the universe he has created which can be felt with every page. One word of caution, dont read these books out of order, it will ruin the surprises and fun. Start at the first one and enjoy. Fantastic books. if you like this series be sure to check out Christians other books, Rewind 717 is a very different but equally as thrilling read.

A cosmic drama were humans, Olympian and Asgardian Gods have to face the fury threat to conquer and annihilate every life in universe. Space opera with gigant ship battles as super power beings, are confronting on many levels and different places. We all hope that the good will defeat evil. The story immerges you and let you hardly breathe until the last climax, that sometimes requires sacrifices. Science fiction, war and space action, heroic fantasy and family issues. Here you will have it all. But just don't miss the beginning of this saga. This is already volume 8
