I loved the realness of the characters here. The false bravado and insecurity, the minor miscommunications (but firmly avoiding The Big Misunderstanding plot), the mix of smart and dumb decisions. I'm looking forward to this book's minor characters getting larger roles later in the series, and to seeing more of these two. Great BDSM rep, too. Fulfilling and healthy and sexy all at the same time.

Second in the series, but a prequel to Broken, Unbreakable was a solid read if slightly over-the-top. In this case, because it’s both second and a prequel it’s hard not to compare the two books as many of the characters overlap.

I really enjoyed how she developed the relationship between Mac and Michael and Edward. It provided a depth to those characters that we knew was there but could really start to feel. In general I also like how she paces books and seems to pick the right scenes to embellish vs those to mention in passing to progress the book in a way that the reader doesn’t feel like they are missing out on important details or bored because we just want the scene to end.

I struggled a little bit with the overall plot. Usually in BDSM books I can buy into quick relationships but in this one I had a more difficult time buying into the quickness of their relationship. And maybe it’s because I loved the premise in Broken with Jag (SPOILER ALERT) having been in conversation therapy, but I had a bit more of a difficult time buying into Russel’s need to get an interview with our story villain in order to further his job (the villain who is trying to “break up” the main characters) — with this as the main plot driver. There were also other minor details (how did Russell get the money to buy the fancy clothes right after he talked about spending all his money on the private dances?). Having said that, the book is an easy read with the character of Russell had a very strong personality that managed to stay on the right side of likable. Mac’s character didn’t change too much from Broken and there wasn’t anything surprising, or more importantly, out of place, with his character development.

Having said all of that, it was a good read, if slightly more fluffy (a fluffy d/s relationship!!) than I expected from having read Broken. You wouldn’t need to read Broken to enjoy this book as I think it more adds to the depth of the characters in that book as opposed to provides critical information.

Overall, a solid read and I’m looking forward to the next in the series or whatever she writes next.

I was provided an ARC for my honest review. But I also bought it anyway.

I love the way Collete allows us to see her characters at their most vulnerable. The writing is so good. I could see the strip club with it’s tacky decor and sticky floor in my mind’s eye. I love her sense of humor. I was cracking up when Mac and Russell went to Remy’s party. But what really struck me is Russell’s breakdown after being intimate with Mac. His loneliness and fear of rejection could be felt through the writing. Mac’s anxiety after meeting alone with Remy was palpable. I liked them together. Not sure about the quick cohabitation but I’ll let them decide what’s best for them ;-). I would recommend this book.

WOW!!! What a terrific story. Mac and Russel are a beautiful couple brought together by circumstances that took them further than expected. Neither were looking or expected more. But the chemistry between them became off the charts. This is HOT, sweet and fun. I loved these characters. I also loved getting to see Michael and Edward together. The love and friendship between them all. This is just an all around, AMAZING book. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

Okay, so this is a prequel and there is already one established couple so I’m not sure if I missed any other stories in the series so far, but if I did, it didn’t feel like it.

So, Mac is a dancer at a club, though I honestly don’t remember what it’s called, but, he works with two close friends/chosen family, Edward and Michael. They’re the already established couple and remember them because they’re the ones who have plans for the Heaven and Hell club… the place now, is a seedy little place where customers aren’t what they once were and their owner/boss is greedy and lazy and just not a nice guy. It seems jerks who get away with being jerks is a thing in stories I’m reading lately… but anyway…. It’s just another night on the grind when Russel walks in in all his beautiful glory and Mac is intrigued but the pair of them are so different. Color him surprised when Russel propositions him but it’s not the type he’s used to.

Russel is the “layout guy” but what he really wants to do is become a journalist. When he gets an opportunity to write a piece for one of the most fashionable bachelors, he thinks his luck is about to change when his boss gives him a chance to cover it. Nevermind he’s only doing it because Russel is gay and so is Remy, the bachelor in question, but he doesn’t look the gift horse in the mouth and takes the job, with the stipulation that it’s a couple’s party, even though Remy is very single. After trying his few friends to pose as his boyfriend, someone suggests Mac and it’s not such a bad idea, right?

Playing a fake boyfriend never works out according to plan.. We already knew that these two were going to fall in love and why wouldn’t they? They’re adorable together and I loved how loyal they were to one another. When the fake part goes out the window, I adored them together. Russel is so confident and sassy that I’m surprised he ever lets anyone get anything on over him and Mac is strong yet vuernerable and I love love love that stereotypes are thrown out the window in this one. Just because Mac is the muscled up, broody guy, doesn’t make him a top… he’s actually almost strictly bottom and not only that, he likes to be dominated…. Or maybe not dominated, as it isn’t that dark… but maybe controlled a bit, though only by Russel. He trusted him from the get go and I liked that…. And just because Russel is a makeup wearing ball of sass, doesn’t mean he’ll take crap from anyone… he surely doesn’t and he knows just what Mac needs to make him crazy for him. It was hot. I liked that neither of them were what I was expecting.

What I hate more than anything, though, and you’ll know it, if you’ve read any of my reviews….ever.. is that I’m way too petty and callous to not want retribution against someone who has wronged me. It’s the type of person I am. I hate when people get taken advantage of, I hate manipulators and I despise when people get away with being jerks. Entitled A-holes and this sstory is full of them.

Remy, who you’ll realize pretty early on is the most manipulative and the story mainly focuses on him and what he tries to do to the couple, and honestly, I cannot believe people act like him, he’s the epitome of SPOILED, entitled and bratty… it’s almost laughable how bratty and immature, but I hated him immediately and really really hated him by the end, though I’m glad he somewhat got put in his place. What I hated, is that both of their bosses, the greedy pos and then Russel’s boss, who was so immorally disgusting, the way spoke to Russel and the situations he put him in were absolutely unethical and he should’ve lost his job at the very least. I hated that he screwed over Russel and just gets to go about his way being an awful fake human being. I wished for karmic justice on him too….

BUT, I’ll digress, because it could just be my mood and the fact that I’ve read just jerky characters lately, but the overall love story between Mac and Russel, I loved…which is the point, here LOL
I loved their friendships that they had, that hopefully you’ll see more of in the series… I loved their loyalty to one another and the trust they had in each other. I loved seeing them fall in love with other, when their start was less than ideal and a little cliché, and I loved how things ended for the both of them and they got such a sweet happy ending. I’m not sure I’ll read anymore from the series, but it is very well written and worth the read.

4 stars from me on this one

❤ A great start to the book as Mac's on stage, he wasnt happy with his boss at the club. Oh i loved Mac at the party, he didnt have a clue with the posh folks acting. Lots of laugh-out-cloud moments as the two get to know each other. I loved the reversed roles of there perceived body bulids. They both have horrible family bagage but have strived to make themselves a winner. 🔥🔥Hot sexy Dom Submission scenes included as well as a blackmailing S.O.B I didnt like. The ending is fantastic one yah i had to laugh at a certian bad character getting his just deserts. A great book to love.

Mac 27 loved being a pole dancer at Horn club with a freind Micheal. although Micheal had Edward to go home to, Mac was single.
Russel 26 yrs worked at a fashion magazine and happened to visit the Horn. He gets a dream assignment but he needs a date. (KU)

Having read "Broken" back when it was released, I was thrilled to see that Mac and Russel's 'prequel' was written. I loved getting their story, and seeing them connect. Their chemistry was intense, and I loved seeing the stereotypes for body size and preferences broken. It was also a little bitter-sweet to get to meet Edward knowing what happens to him and Michael between the books, but also great to see their connection that we heard about in Broken. I also liked seeing the club change from Horns to Heaven and Hell. Definitely a book I'd recommend, regardless if whether you've already read Broken, or are planning on reading the series in chronological order.
